  1. I just ran across this video. I have a similar vacuum and I will be building this. It is going to be perfect for my outside vac.
  2. Paul, when I first bought my Fein/Dust Deputy, I thought I might have to make something to work with the vac and I found that you can buy just the male end to replace the one on the hose if it became worn. I ordered one but then found a way to do a workaround. Anyway, if you think it might be beneficial, that part is available and I think it was only about $5. I'll try to figure out where I bought it. It's been a while and my memory/ram is not what it used to be.
  3. Thanks Paul. I was not aware of this H/D offering. I want to put a small system outside of my shop for when I set up outside. I have a Fein/Dustdeputy inside and a big Ridgid 16 gallon for outside and have been thinking about building a cyclone system. This will solve my problem.
  4. My last offering on the subject....it would be interesting to know how many hobbies that became businesses are/were successful and also remained "fun" and not "drudgery".
  5. We must agree to disagree. Ain't life grand?
  6. I tried the Scrollsaw Cafe but just didn't see enough activity to warrant my time. I check it out about once a week.
  7. I joined every group that had anything to do with the scroll saw. I even joined the one that is mostly U.K. members. As long as it's about the hobby, I'm in.
  8. It's an easy adjustment to make Les. I like to have stuff "spot" on. Sort of like working on a clock.
  9. I just found a website that tells exactly to do it. They recommend using an epoxy based paint a good primer beforehand. Then a sealer. Sounds like a job for someone else. I would rather scroll.
  10. My wife and I were just having this conversation as we took our walk around the park. We have a white vinyl fence that got splashed with tar a few years ago when they resurfaced our streets. I tried different things to get rid of the tar and all I managed to do was smear it around and make a bad situation worse. So, we were talking about the possibility of painting our fence and I told her that if I was to hit with a sander so the paint would have something to adhere to, it might work. I'm going to do some homework on the subject.
  11. Kevin, I think the difference is in whether your "business" has to bring in enough to pay your bills and support itself. If you are lucky enough to have a primary income from another source, then the "hobby/business" has the breathing room to let you be flexible in operating it. Somehow, I think if you HAD to depend on what your "hobby/business" generates in order to live, it would all of a sudden become a "hobby/business/nightmare". What you are doing is the only way I would ever consider doing it. If I can sell some of the stuff I love making, then that's fine. I have a way to offset the expense of my hobby. But to have to make enough every month to pay for all of our bills? Well that would soon be no fun. Especially if the weather was against me. I'm a very "mild weather" person.
  12. I disagree with you this time JT. I have known many folks who have tried to turn a hobby into a business and before long they hated what they were doing. A gunsmith friend comes to mind. He loved doing it for a hobby in his garage but as soon as he hung out his shingle, the whole world changed. All of a sudden he had the heavy shackles of the government looking down at him. Not much fun when you have to all of a sudden file necessary paperwork. And to be expected to do it over and over again. Well that just ain't right. Remember, I live in "The People's Republic of California".
  13. I was told by a very astute person many years ago to NEVER TRY TO TURN A HOBBY INTO A BUSINESS! You'll ruin both.
  14. Totally agree Paul. I only go to other places to read after I've devoured everything here.
  15. Yeah, that too. Thanks JT.
  16. If he did all that with a hand scroll saw, he must never have slept. Or eaten. Or anything else.
  17. I could use that same advice. I have worked hard but for some reason, I still have a large hind end.
  18. I'll bet the top and bottom blade clamps aren't in sync with each other. It only takes a fraction for this to happen. If you do any 3-D scrolling you'll know really quick. The blade has to be at a perfect 90º to the table. It requires moving the set screw on both blade clamps so the blade is perfectly vertical. If you have already done that, something else is amiss. Possibly a bent arm or worn bearings/bushings.
  19. I've been following along too. I have become a member of just about all the Facebook groups that deal with woodworking and scroll sawing. This one seems to need some new leadership if it's going to survive. I'm much more interested in local clubs but unfortunately, there aren't many near me to choose from. The one here in Orange County doesn't seem to be doing much either.
  20. Rolf, I like the idea of the handle. Where did you find one? Did you custom fabricate it? Also, did you leave the wheels on the rear legs? If so, could you post a pic? I'd like to see how you mounted them.
  21. Step 1....Remove from saw. Step 2...Lay side with rod touching floor. Step 3...Slide rod under bottom edge of door. Step 4...Gently tap hold down foot with tip of shoe so as to wedge rod under door." Step 5...Leave in this position until ready to close door.
  22. I have never had the pleasure of doing business with them but I do know that cancer is the most hideous, depicable thing I can think of. It has taken so many good folks way before their time. Such a shame we can't put more resources toward finding a cure and/or a prevention. Somehow, I personally think that they will find many cures in the world of cannibis. I keep hearing about all the success stories of CBD oil and even the Feds have approved it for people who have seizures. I hope this lady is successful in her battle of the dreaded disease.
  23. Take the warning labels off of everything. Let the gene pool sort itself out.
  24. But you do such a fine job of it Les.
  25. If they did figure out what it was for, they'd toss it asap because it meant "work".
