    I also think that the location I have it in, in my tiny shop, may have something to do with it. I am cramped in a corner so it feels "weird" to me to be back in a corner perched on a tall stool with my foot waaaay down on the floor. I'll fix all of that. Some way, somehow.

    My only complaint, at this point, why is it so tall? Why not have a couple of lower position options? A few extra holes in the legs is all it would have taken. I may build a wood stand for it since leg position seems to be so critical with these saws. I am not comfortable sitting so high. It makes using a foot switch not easy. I'm 6' 1" with long legs too.

    Thanks Dick. My problem, I don't have room for it. If it turns out that I don't like the Hawk, I'll sell it and buy pegas.

    I've said it before and I'll say it again. A good share of the college-educated folks that I have known in my lifetime can't tie their own shoes.

    Yes, that and letting the saw do its work at its own pace. Sometimes very slowly.

    It looks like you are doing fine. Practice will go a long way toward perfection. Better wood, the correct blade and patience. From what I have garnered, a skip tooth blade with no reverse teeth is what is needed. Something in the #5 to #7 range for thick wood. I'm going to give these a try once I get done making baskets for everybody my wife knows.

    Well, I did a good clean-up on the Hawk yesterday. I took the table off so I could work on it outdoors. It polished up pretty well. I used some 220 paper on it to get the 17 years worth of oxidation off. Then I took my chrome wheel buffer and metal polish to it. Then a couple of coats of Johnson's paste wax. It is really slick now. I brass brushed all the corrosion I could find and gave all the red painted surfaces a wax job. The saw looks like new. It seems to have a vibration in a couple of speed ranges. I haven't loosened the legs yet so it can "settle" into it's relaxed position. I know that is supposed to be important with Hawks. I'd like to hear more about that from you Hawk owners. All-in-all, the saw works/cuts great. I now need to figure out what type of cutting it prefers. I'm still getting used to the blade changing/tensioning system also. If anybody has and words of advice, I'm all ears. Or eyes as the case may be.

    Right on John. My wife just informed me that I need to make about 6 more for gifts. I guess I'll never get to move on to other projects.

    I just finished reading a great book by John Grisham called The Rooster Bar and it's about 3 young kids who are going to a less than wonderful law school and they are all up to their eyeballs in debt. It's exactly as you say. Great book too. When the college/university systems got wind that the Feds were going to guarantee the student loans, they opened up the doors and said: "come on in, don't worry about the money, it's going to be just fine".

    There was a time when college was a very big step up to getting a high paying job. Then, the word got out and the market place got flooded with college grads who had not idea what working for a living was all about. They had all be spoon fed from cradle to college graduation. Then, they walked out of college with that degree and thought "now what". I can't believe I have to actually work now. Nobody told me anything about that. I think I better move back in with Mom and Dad and just wait them out until they die. SAD!

    And that is exactly what we are turning out of our schools now since they have closed all the shop classes. Nothing but college prep courses. Not everybody should go to college.

    I hear ya Les. The only reason I go to HD is price. I hate to admit that but it's the truth. Whenever I buy anything at the Ace store, I know going in it's going to cost me more but I try to patronize him so they stay open. He is an American citizen who migrated from India. He and his wife are very nice people. I always tell them how much I appreciate that they are there. And, he usually has the oddball stuff I'm looking for. At HD, if I want 4 screws, I have to buy two packages of 3. It never fails. Now, if I need anything like that, I just buy a box of whatever it is. Unless it's really oddball.

    It seems like you folks who live in Michigan are all that far from anything. We have friends who live in Harbor Beach and if they want to go to Walmart or anything other than a very small grocery store, it's a 25 mile trip each way. No thanks.

    Look at Iggy go! I have been toying with doing something like that to my old EX. Mine is old enough though that there is no dust collection on it so whatever I come up with will be entirely new to the saw. I have a bunch of tubing lying around but I need to go get some fittings. Another trip to H/D is in order.

    I'd contact them for that reason and also to let them know that their packaging held up and our saw came through in great condition. I'm sure they would appreciate knowing both.

    The "perfect" world is no longer. Those drivers are under so much pressure to deliver, they don't have time to wait for a signature anymore. I was very surprised that Bushton said that you'd have to sign. I haven't seen that in a very long time.
