    That's exactly how I felt about my Hegner. I wanted desperately to love it but I just didn't like the way it started. I know it was MY saw and I will try another one someday. I want to try a Hawk too. I just have to convince my wife that a person NEEDS more than two saws.

    But, are they any good? Most pinned blades are probably junk. I would think anyway. And too big for most projects.

    @Bubba, the Dewalt set doesn't have a lever because it has the tension applied with the tension wheel. But, with that said, if I were to buy the Pegas clamps for my Dewalt, I'd buy the set that fits the EX type saw. I have both saws and I did put the Pegas on my Ex. I love the tension lever. So, it's a matter of what you like. But to me, I'd just set the tension wheel and leave it in one position and apply the tension with the lever. I suppose you could apply more ore less tension as needed by tweaking the tension wheel.

    There are times on this design of saw that when stopped after cutting, the mechanism stops on what I would call a high point. If you do a quick on/off it will move off that high point and the arms will return to where they should. Give that a try. Other than that I have no idea.

    My EX does not have a white line. So far I have not encountered the problem you have. But..I have not been watching for it. Now I will be. I do like Tgiro's suggestion of a block to do a quick adjustment. Sorry for your plight. I hope you get it figured out so you can "love" your EX as much as I do mine.

    Well, like I said, I'm going to make mine to fit the two brands my wife buys. If she changes brands, well too bad I guess. My biggest complaint is that the tissue boxes are so lightweight that whenever I try to get a tissue out of one, it ends up on the floor. So the weight of something made of wood has got to help solve that problem. I'm all for using napkins. There's always a pile of them sitting in the cupboard and they work just fine. LOL.

    Paul, I can't eat popsicles that fast. And the sticks I bought are only about 3/16" wide and maybe 8 inches long. They are great for so many things.

    Hey, just a heads up. I know a lot of you already know this but for those, like me, it is another great place to buy stuff. We were at Walmart yesterday and I moseyed over into the craft section. I was really surprised at what they have for crafters. And the prices are great. I bought a bottle of Aleene's tacky glue for $1.27. I also noticed how much cheaper the name brand C/A type glues were as compared to H/D. I also bought a package of wood coffee stir sticks to use for glue applicators. I noticed they sell wooden dowel rods in the 36" range from 1/8" to 7/8" for cheap. So, check them out the next time you need something that you might run to your local hardware/craft store to get. You might be surprised.

    Well congrats on Indiana. California is going in the opposite direction. They are so shackled by the unions here and the backward thinking, at this point we have no hope. Sad. I always wanted to be a shop teacher but I didn't want to have to go through all the nonsense classes to get there. So I started my own business instead.

    That's great to hear. We need more trade/shop classes back in our schools. The folks in charge seemed to have forgotten that we still need to have things fixed. Where are you located?

    First off, welcome to the SSV. I know you will gain a ton of knowledge here. I know for sure I did and still do. I agree with Kevin in that the saw once tuned is only so good. The way it is mounted makes a huge difference. It must be rock solid. I have built wooden stands for both my Dewalt and my EX21. They also both sit on foam rubber floor matting. No vibration at all or little to none. Both saws have a "sweet spot" where I tend to do most of my cutting. As CharleyL said, the choice of wood and the blade will determine the cutting speed.

    Here is what I found. My wife buys Target brand and Puffs brand. I printed out the patterns just as they were in Steve's plans. Both of the boxes will fit but the Puff's is a tiny bit smaller on one side. Barb says she doesn't buy the Kleenex brand because it's always higher in price. So I'm going with Steve's plans as they are. I did make sure that they printed at 100%.

    I am going to make this one too. I did measure a few boxes of tissue and found that there doesn't really seem to be a standard in the industry as to size. So, I'm going to make mine to fit the largest one I found and the rest will just have to be a sloppy fit. I also asked Steve for a custom pattern for the sides. We live in an area that palm trees are very prolific so my wife wanted palm trees on the sides. Steve is such a great guy, it took him overnight to send me a pattern.

    Yay! Now, if you haven't already done this, go to Gwinnette Woodworkers on Youtube and watch the 4 part video on how to service you saw. Do that FIRST. I guarantee you that it has never been done. Buy some synthetic grease and a package of pipe cleaners and go to work. You will love that saw once it's greased and tuned up. AND parts are still all available for it. Congrats on your new toy.

    I'd sure love to be there to experience that. I love watching sawmills in operation. I went to a steam tractor show a few years back and they had a big old steam tractor out in the field with a long long belt running to a sawmill. They were milling lumber from logs. Fascinating to say the least.

    Paul, that's exactly what I have decided to do. And you are right about the shipping. That's the bugaboo on all the wood suppliers. I have a pretty good one about an hour from me so I am going to try to put together and order and go pick it up when it gets large enough to warrant the trip. My Buick Enclave gets crappy gas mileage.

    You mentioned sapele. I want to make a bowl from a pattern in SSWC a couple of years back. It calls for 3/4" sapele but I have yet to find a supplier. Where did you find yours? I have found turning blanks I might add.

    I did buy the top one but got busy and didn't read all of it. It's a great book.

    I pretty much cut clockwise turning the wood counterclockwise. Unless, as Kevin said, I'm doing double bevel work.
