    Thanks Bill. I'm trying to order some wood to make more of the baskets that I have made in the past. I want to make some with two woods with contrasting color so I'm leaning toward walnut and maple. The local wood source I use lists "hard" maple but does not list "soft" maple. I'm wondering if the hard maple will do ok on the scroll saw. Can you advise me? Thanks again.

    Me too Karl. I bought because of price and I bought the "deadman" style that requires me to keep my foot on the switch to make the saw run. I just found that the crappy wire they are using now and the fact that it came out of the side instead of the same plane as the other wire, made the switch want to find a home of its own. Now, it will stay where I put it.

    Be careful about what you do though because knobs that are of different weight can cause or increase vibration. I did find that out on my Dewalt when I made some wooden pieces that went over the tee handles. I epoxyed them on and never gave any thought to the increased weight or the possible difference between the upper and lower knob weights.

    Mine were pretty much in the position needed. I think I might have had to move one or the other set screw. I don't recall. And for instructions, I never gave it a thought. I took off the old and installed the new.

    Kevin, can you tell me what the difference is between "hard" maple and regular maple? And, please, no smartass answers.

    That's strange Kevin. I bought my EX used but the switch came with it in a box that has the Excalibur name on it. The switch doesn't have the computer type plugin on it. It's identical to the H/F switch. Anyway, if you decide to do what I did, it's very easy. Takes just a few minutes.

    Thanks Rolf. I am going to get rid of my shop chair. It's not comfortable at all. I never should have bought it in the first place. Oh well..you live and learn. Scrappile sent me a picture of his work station and I like the chair he has. He also included the link to where he got it. https://www.globalindustrial.com/. Not cheap by any means but if it works out, it doesn't matter.

    The two rear legs are just barely on the matting. Not sure yet of how I'm going to set the saw up but for now, it's ok.

    That is very similar to what I have but looks more comfortable. I need a softer seat too. Thanks for your kind efforts to appease me.

    That's really not fair. Everybody should have to show their mug. No matter how bad it is. Just look at Scrappile for gosh sakes.

    Kevin, it looks organized but it's not. I'm a packrat. My wife says so and she is right. I can't leave anything just laying somewhere if I can fix it or use or whatever. I don't know why but I end up with more crap than anybody should. So, with that said, in order to use what room I have, I have to keep moving stuff around. I can't figure out what constitutes a scrap of wood that is too small to save. I have boxes now of stuff that should go into a fireplace. Unfortunately, we don't have one. If someone can tell me what to do with these wood chips/scraps/cutoffs what have you, I'd be most thankful. I have a flat screen tv out there that came out of our motorhome. I don't need it. I'd have to buy/rent a cable box to use it. I have a computer out there just because I love computers and might want to jump on the internet. I just can't toss stuff. If nobody wants to buy my Dewalt, it may find that it is going to be my "outside" saw. Except that I owe my wife the money I pilfered to buy the Hawk. What to do, what to do?

    Here are a couple of pics of my little hideaway. 9 x 13 with one window. I am going to install a small window a/c unit above the window. My son was going to toss it so I figured, why not? I have come to the conclusion it's not the saw that is the problem but the stool. I must find one that is comfortable and has a bit more adjustment. I recall some of you buying draftsman stools. Would somebody put up a link to the one you chose? Thanks for looking.

    I bought one of the H/F foot switches a couple of years ago and when I bought the EX saw, it came with one just like it. I have always hated those two switches because of the way the wires run on them. The saw cord plugs in the front of the switch and the power cord comes out the side of the switch. It has always made positioning the switch very difficult. So, today, I finally had had enough of an inanimate object getting the better of me. I took one of them apart to see where everything was positioned inside of the body of the switch and saw that there was room to reroute the wiring and make both power cords come out the front. All I had to do was drill a hole in the plastic body and reroute stuff. Here is a pic of what it was like before I did anything. I failed to take a pic of what it looked like once done but you can figure it out. A very simple fix. I'm glad it's done. Now both switches lay where I want them to.

    Well, to bring you all up to date, I went out today and cleaned my shop and got the shop stool to where it needed to be. I can see now that the height of the saw will not be a problem once I get everything situated where it's all comfortable. I also did a bit of inventory on what wood I have and in what thicknesses. I wish I had a lot of room to be able to organize it all. I'm thinking that I might just cut everything down to either 12" or 24" pieces so they are all uniform and will stack a bit neater. I'm going to post some pics of my shop and also something else I fixed today that has been bugging me and maybe a lot of you all too. If so, it's an easy fix. Stay tuned.

    I can do the basics on my phone. But for ease of usage, I prefer my computer. And, I spend waaaaay too much time there.

    I forgot to mention that Melanie. I always assume that everybody is using a computer. I can't do anything on my phone and all my pics are stored on my computer.

    Go to the top right corner of this screen. Where your picture would be if you had one. Click the down arrow and select "profile". There, in the top left corner is a place for you to add a profile picture. Just direct to where you have the pic stored and click it.

    Likewise Kevin. I know JT thinks of me as some sort of "kook" but until I can get familiar with the two different types of saws, how else but to own them. I tried the Hegner and I liked the cutting style of the parallel arms. I started out with a Dewalt and since I had nothing to compare to, I liked the saw. I am not sure what you call that mechanism. I kept hearing about how great the EX saws are so I started watching for a deal on one. I found it. I love it. Then, after all the hoopla over the Hawks, I got curious as to what they are all about. So, I found one. I think that by doing my homework and becoming familiar with the saws over the years and seeing the changes/upgrades, I have become somewhat knowledgeable about them. I like learning. It's sort of a hobby to know a little about a lot of things. It keeps the gray matter at bay.

    I'm not into puzzles but Iggy here on the forum is the puzzle king. He may chime in. I'd do a search on Youtube for tutorials. Lots of folks here do puzzles so you will get a lot of info, I'm sure.
