  1. What about that doesn't work on your Craftsman? I've never used/seen one so I have no knowledge about their quirks. I would think with that big throat plate you would at least be able to see what you are doing under the table. I'm not understanding what the difficulty is. I'm not being a smarta** here, I'm just trying to understand.
  2. That's part of the problem with the young folks today. They have never really had to work for anything and place no value on anything either. All you have to do is try to sell antiques or good quality anything and you'll end up donating it to charity. The young folks of today only like stuff that is either black, white or chrome and shaped like a square or a round ball. I think that is why Ikea has done so well. They don't have to worry about style, just simplicity. I read that the reason is they have to remain "mobile" so they can follow the jobs around the country. Not setting down "roots" anywhere for any length of time. Ooops! Sorry for getting off topic. Won't happen again. Until next time. LoL.
  3. Yeah, after about the 3rd one, I'd be writing to them to raise the price and hope they told me to pound sand. LOL.
  4. Thanks RJ, so far, all I have done is make them so my wife can give them away. Everybody thinks the world of my wife. LOL. Me, well, I'm just the guy breathing in the sawdust and looking stupid.
  5. Speaking of "cents", am I the only person who stills bends down to pick up pennies?
  6. I don't have a sister. Lucky you. Can I borrow yours?
  7. Thanks for the info. I am making a lot of the baskets that I have shown. I know, you're all tired of seeing them. LOL. Anyway, I have been trying to home in on a price that would be good for me and the buyer. My time is worth something after all. The wood is getting pricey too. Depends on what I use. The first one was poplar and red oak. Not too bad for cost and I did learn a lot from it. I can now make them fairly fast with the exception of the finishing. That's where the slow-down comes. Anyway, I'm thinking in the range of $75 each no matter the wood choice. What I lose on one I might make up on the other. So to speak. I'm like you though. I don't want to be making ONLY these baskets. I like them but I have other things in mind to work on. Thanks again.
  8. I am a fairly large guy at 6' 1" and 220 lbs. I am also 75 years old. I have to plan ahead to get down under my saw to make those leg adjustments and then come up to see the level. It will be an all day job. Lol.
  9. I am curious what you ended up charging. Can you say? It might help some of us to know pricing. I don't have a clue and probably over charge.
  10. Thanks Roly. It just "flew" right over my head.
  11. Please see my offer above.
  12. You jest. Surely.
  13. Of the 3 named, I have had the best service from QTE and D&D. Because Bear is in Canada, everything takes longer. Depending on which side of the country you are in, I'd give either of those two my business.
  14. I do it that way with both my Dewalt and my EX. I find that if I position the blade in the upper clamp where I am going to want it when finished, I can then use both hands to hold and tighten the lower blade clamp. Then, I loosen the upper clamp, feed the blade through the hole in the workpiece and back into the upper clamp. I also pull down a bit on the upper arm to "pre-load" the whole mechanism. Now, the blade is secured both top and bottom and tensioned. It should work just fine that way.
  15. If you'll cover my gas and lodging, I'd be happy to come fix it for ya.
  16. Momentary. When that blade breaks and scares the bejeebers out of you, the last thing you want to do is start looking for your switch to shut it off. Just my opinion.
  17. Thanks Les, I'm trying to gather as much info as I can. That helps knowing how you use your saw and where you sit.
  18. There's also a saying about "old dogs" too. Never stopped from learning something new and different. Different strokes.............
  19. I would hate to have to switch the saw off and on from the main switch up on top. And, the foot switch would be far cheaper to replace when it wears out.
  20. Thanks. I should have been able to figure that out. My "go-to" wood supplier here by me has hard maple but not the softer kind so I guess I'll go with the hard stuff. What I'm making should be no problem with cutting. Nothing over 1/4" thick.
  21. What is "timbermate"?
  22. Well, that's another way of going at it I guess.
  23. Now, there is another name for maple. Never heard of "rock" maple before. Wood can be so confusing. I'm just trying to find contrasting shades without having to use stain. I hate staining. Messy.
  24. Thanks again Bill. I will take all that into consideration when placing my order.
  25. The baskets are made up of multiple layers of 1/4" thick pieces. Nothing more than that. I'm toying with changing the patterns a bit to make some different size and look baskets and they may incorporate a little thicker wood. Maybe up to 1/2" but nothing more than that.
