    I used to compete in military 3-gun competition. I have a High Standard Trophy model .22 bull barrel for that part of the competition and two 1911's for the other 2 parts. One has an extended front sight and both have Bowmar rear sights. Both of them have been highly accurized with 3 lb. trigger pulls. I came within 5 points of making the Olympic Team back in the early 80's. I also competed in precision air pistol and actually won the state championship once. That pistol is the most expensive gun I ever purchased. Back then, it set me back over $500. Made in Germany. The pellet exited the barrel at over 600 feet per second. I sure miss them days.

    Here too. Never a problem but there may come a day and I guarantee you that they will be very sorry. I keep the first chamber full of snake shot. But the second one is all business.

    Heck, that's standard operating procedure here. I'm too trusting. I openly invite folks to come here to buy/pickup whatever I'm selling. But, there is usually some conversation prior to that. I've been around for a while and sort of know what to look for. Oh, and I usually carry a .357 too.

    I know that you probably already have done this but if not, DO check out Craigslist in your area. I watch it on a daily basis and there are quite a few great used saws on there. Especially in the price range that you are looking for. I only follow the better grade of saws always looking for that great price. Anyway, check it out and see if you can find somebody's cast off.     Some of the wood glues are water soluble so you might be able to wet it and get it to release. Just try to isolate the piece you want to free up.

    Well, so far, I'm still not educated enough to know what I need to use so I have hesitated to buy anything in quantity. But, It looks like I'm going to be sticking to the Watco oil for a while. I have used it and once it's dried/cured I spray with spray lacquer. What can you tell me about varnish/spray varnish?

    Unfortunately for us here in parts of So Cal, we arent' "allowed" to buy mineral spirits. We are forced to buy the smelly stuff called "paint thinner". I have no idea why but our fearless leaders must have a very good reason for it. The were probably able to find more ways to tax it. I know, I'm very cynical but I hate being "nanny'ed" to death.

    Thanks for your input. I agree with you but, in this world we live in today, it's almost not workable. I would love to see a return to the old days of true craftsmanship. What I think is needed at Bushton is one person who does nothing but communicate with customers or potential customers. For them to charge up front for something that is not available and then not communicate with the person whose money you took is just not right. Of course, none of us know what the actual operation is like at Bushton. Heck, maybe it's a family of 3 and they are working 12 hour days to keep the farm going. Whatever it is, they should be up-front and keep the lines of communication open.

    Well, if they had the money to buy the company, and operate a farm, they should have the means to operate the business properly or else sell it to someone who can. It's obvious that there is a market for the Hawk saw. I have been watching the group that has formed on Facebook who have Eclipse saws. It would be great to resurrect that product but it would take some money and someone who understands manufacturing. If you are at all interested, check out Facebook and search for the Eclipse scroll saw group.

    Years ago when I was a newbie in the tool business, I had one customer who owned a machine shop and they made one specific aluminum part for Boeing. It was some sort of an internal wing strut. My point is, there was no one machine shop who Boeing was dependent upon to make their parts. They farmed most everything out and only did the final assembly. Knowing what a simple mechanism the Hawks are made up of, it's ridiculous to me that they are trying to do it all themselves. And trying to do it between planting and harvesting makes it that much more ridiculous. Someone needs to step in there and create a better business model for them. The main reason that the price of a Hawk is so high is because of the low production runs. They need to step up and build enough machines to supply a year's worth of business at a time and half way through that year, repeat the whole thing again. Never let your business run out of inventory. Never. If you don't supply the product, someone else will. That's precisely why China kicked our butt.

    Unfortunately, I live in a a God Forsaken place where they cut down trees to make parking lots and high-rise section 8 housing. No sawmills here because there are no trees. Well, except for the pine trees but they are being killed by the pine bark beetle. No forest management here.

    I'm so glad I'm not alone Les. I complain all the time about the cost of stuff and since getting into this hobby, the material is the most expensive thing we must have.
