  1. I've thought about a cheap laser printer just for pattern printing too Mrs.N. From what I have found so far Brother makes a pretty good one and it's not at all expensive. What brand did you buy? Ray
  2. I'm so sorry for your weather. It's cool here but it's still shirt sleeve weather. A bit breezy is all. Hazards of living near the ocean.
  3. Does the saw work at all? You might be able to jump either side of the controller pot and see if it goes fast and slow with just the area in between that is not functioning properly. Ray
  4. Well, don't go looking for their "card file". Ray
  5. There is probably nothing wrong with the controller in that listing Scrappile. I get the feeling that they have a problem with potentiometers. But, for a $100 the motor is worth the purchase. It makes one wonder why it's available. What became of the rest of the saw? Ray
  6. I'm wondering if the "K" in the part number denotes that it's actually a King/Excelsior. Seems strange to put a "k" in any number. Ray
  7. That looks like a great find even with the cover on it. I can't wait to see what you find in that control mechanism. I have my fingers crossed for you that it's a simple and inexpensive fix. Ray
  8. Welcome to the SSV. I'm fairly new to the hobby too. It would be nice to know where you are located. We might be able to help you out with a good used saw. There are many out there but you must be choosy on what you buy. If at all possible, don't let price be your guide. You will be miles ahead if you are patient and wait for the right saw to come along. An inferior saw will just serve to frustrate you and being new to woodworking in general, you have too many other variables to be concerned with. Best of luck, hang out and READ, READ, READ!!! Ray
  9. Very nice work. I must ask you though, what is the "instrument of torture" doing so close to a "happy time" hobby? Are the weights used when you are gluing something? I can't imagine any other reason? Ray
  10. The finishing process has always been my downfall. I used to leave that up to my wife but she is no longer interested in doing that. I don't blame her actually. I hate the sanding and finishing. Mostly because of my ignorance. Ray
  11. So I take it that sanding sealer would be more for wood that is going to be painted? Ray
  12. What is sanding sealer all about? Will that work for what you are asking? Ray
  13. I remember hearing the story about one of the major airlines that started leaving one black olive off of their salads and saved thousands of dollars the first year. It's all about counting beans. Ray
  14. Not knowing where you are located, let me tell you, Craigslist has a bazillion used scroll saws in my area.(So Cal). I see quite a few Delta saws on there and they have had quite a few good or great reviews here. I just bought a used Hegner with all the bells and whistles for $300. Great saw in like new condition. My first saw was a Dewalt 788 type 1 that I paid $225 for with stand and light. So, I would stay away from the low budget saws. Nothing but trouble and might just turn you off to the hobby because of their shortcomings. This is a great place to ask for advice before buying any saw. Be sure to ask questions and I guarantee you, you will get the information that you need to make a decision. Oh, and if you are new here, welcome to the SSV. Great place to hang out. Ray Here is a prime example of what I saying. I realize the table looks rusted but that will clean up. https://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/tls/d/dewalt-scroll-saw/6467808395.html
  15. You're right. I was thinking about printing on the peel off paper but I guess that wouldn't work so very good. Oh well, I'm old. Ray
  16. I just had a brain storm. I wonder if a person was to cut the shelf paper into 8 1/2 by 11 and put it into the single page slot on the printer if we could print our patterns directly onto it and eliminate one of the steps to preparation. I might just have to give that a try. Ray
  17. Yup. That's about it. And any decent electronics store will have them. Ray
  18. Rocky, it's the rheostat. It's an easy to reach item and should be a very easy quick fix. There may be some electronics involved but I'm sure (well sort of) that the problem is going to be the rheostat. I'd be very surprised if it's anything else. Ray
  19. The circumstances between what Heppnerguy bought and what I saw advertised, even though they seemed to be 500 miles apart sure do seem the same. I wonder if the seller advertised the saw in two places and actually lived in Az. Same saw, same price. Just too much of a coincidence. Hmmmmmmm Ray
  20. Aw shucks. I didn't get it. Darn. Oh well.............. Ray
  21. I thought he bought an EX-21. Ray
  22. I really wasn't looking for another saw. I just went to C/L because of the deal the Heppnerguy found. It was almost too good to believe and the same price too. I don't have room for more saws. Something has to give. And my wife is looking at me with a strange look in here eye. Ray
  23. I'm going to open a used scroll saw lot. Ray
  24. If I get this one, I'll be selling my Dewalt soon. My wife thinks I have lost my mind. I emailed the seller about a Paypal account. Hope to hear soon. Too bad it's not an Ex-21. I'll be watching for one of those next. Wow. A Hegner and an Ex in one week. Ray
  25. I just found an Ex-16 on Craigslist for $200. The ad says that Walmart sells this same saw for $579. Is that true? Is this saw worth $200 in almost new condition? I need some quick answers. Thanks. Ray
