  1. I know it might be too much work to try this but why not make the clamp body out of aluminum and then install a steel threaded insert into the aluminum? That would satisfy both problems. Ray
  2. Thanks Randy. Mainly what I was trying to find out is what is the main difference between all these saws since they pretty much all use the same type of mechanism. I realize that there might be quality differences so that is part of my question. I also realize that my Dewalt does have some vibration at high speed but so does my Hegner. Although I can get rid of most of the vibration on the Hegner by really holding it down firmly to the floor. I was just wondering why there is such a price difference between the Dewalt and the other saws. Just me being me. If I'm going to ask my wife to let me spend a ton of money on the top line saw, I have to be able to justify the cost. Thanks. Ray
  3. Thanks. That's where I got them before Mike retired. But, I was just wondering if any of the other mfgrs. made anything similar. I have looked at all the blade charts for Olson, and Pegas but so far, I don't see anything like the FD-UR blades. Ray
  4. I just tried using some of the FD UR blades and I think I like them. So far at least. I was just wondering if they are available by any other mfgr? Or something similar. Just want to explore all avenues. I think I will be buying more sizes. I got #5's in the sample pack. I was cutting some 5/16" BB and they seemed to do very well on my Dewalt saw. Ray
  5. Good question but that's exactly what I paid a couple of weeks ago down in your neck of the woods. Same saw, light, foot switch. Death in the family. Ray
  6. Ok, let's take this question one step further. I have a Dewalt that I have rebuilt and lubed and tweaked to the point where it is very nice to use. It uses pretty much the same design mechanism as the Ex, the Excelsior, and the Seyco. What would be the main reason for spending all that money on any of the higher priced saws over a Dewalt? I'm not trying to start a "my saw is better than your saw" squabble" here. I just honestly am trying to figure out the answer. Since I haven't used any of the high dollar saws, please all you owners of such saws, enlighten me. I am honestly trying to understand. I know there has to be a good reason to part with all that money. Ray
  7. Well, it looks like this was a good topic and just in time for some. I've gotten so many great ideas here, I just don't know which way to go. I like the pill bottles but so far I haven't been able to find any at a price that suits me. Of course, free would be great. Ray
  8. Lucky you. All I ever find is junk particle board or some other manmade crap.
  9. Yeah, I guess that's a question better left unanswered. R
  10. I've got a dead man switch on both of my saws. It just makes sense to me, at my age, to have something that will stop everything if I keel over. Ray
  11. Next thing you know, it'll be under lock and key like spray paint.
  12. How many wives do you have Paul? Just askin............ Ray
  13. I didn't pay attention to that Scrappy.
  14. This one just popped up on Craigslist. https://palmsprings.craigslist.org/tls/d/dewalt-craftsman-hand-tools/6448908364.html Saw, with stand and light for $150. Great price. Ray
  15. https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/tls/d/hegner-speed-saw-with/6482784992.html This one is a steal. It won't last long. I'd buy it if I hadn't just bought one like it. Get busy folks. Ray
  16. That Goo Gone or similar products will leave behind an oily residue and make your project impossible to stain. Be careful what you use it on. Once it's in the wood, you'll never get it out. Might even be tough to paint over. Ray
  17. Just imagine in the second one, that you extended out the base line to the right and put the name "Dolphins" on the top of that line. You would end up with a "plaque" that could be mounted on a flat base for a shelf or desk ornament. It all depends on what you intend to use your "cut-out" for. Many ways to look at the same picture. Ray
  18. Travis, not to take anything away from Bear but I bought my first batch of Pegas blades from them before I realized they were in Canada. It took 2 weeks or more to get my order so the next time I'm going to give D & D a try. Just sayin........... Ray
  19. But, you fixed it without buying a new furnace. That's the whole point. Ray
  20. That's strange. I followed my own link, did a screen refresh and then moved all 16 rolls to my shopping cart. All I had to do was to finish the sale. Something weird going on. Ray
  21. I just went to Amazon and found this. Only 16 rolls left. Anybody want to make a big buy? $5.64 a roll. https://www.amazon.com/Duck-Brand-1115496-Laminate-Adhesive/dp/B01L3ZM1RA/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1517609021&sr=8-3&keywords=duck+brand+adhesive+shelf+liner+12"+x+36'&dpID=41HD6JJPZPL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch Ray
  22. Ed, when you want to post a link, wherever you are say in Amazon and you have the item on your screen, up in the address bar, just right click and click copy. Then go to wherever you want to post the link to and right click again and click paste. Ray
  23. I've used ash in place of oak many times. It cuts and works nice. I've got no experience with it in scrolling but if it is anything like the other projects that I have built, it will be great. Ray
  24. I like this idea much better than the carousel that I am working on. And it would be far easier to carry between my two saws. Thanks. Ray
  25. And you would be oh so correct. But, when it comes to making a noise when it shouldn't, that is usually mechanical so fixable. We have a service contract right now that is good for one more year. Then we will let it go until we need it again. The last time we had a issue that I wasn't sure how to fix, we called the service guy out and he diagnosed the problem as the door lock interlock. Electronic and mechanical. He told us how much to fix it but at the same time, he offered to sell us a two year service plan that would cover the repair and cover us for the next two years for not much more. Well it was a no brainer to buy the plan. He fixed the problem, supplied the parts and we were covered for two years. I'm sure that the next time it happens, if we are out of contract, we'll be offered that same thing again. At that point, we will have to figure out if we want to renew or buy a new washer or pay to fix it. Whatever works. R
