    Well, I'm the new kid on the block and have no experience so I bought the pattern DVD that is available from Scrollsaw Workshop. It has around a thousand patterns for pretty much all levels of expertise. And then there is the pattern library here too. I suppose most all the other scroll saw websites have a similar offering.     Yes, miter saws are the worst. I won't even use mine inside my small shop. It goes outside when used. It's so darn heavy that I try very hard to find ways around using it. I may sell it and buy a smaller one. I don't need a 12" anymore. As to the vac, I was wondering if my vac could be "customized" to run variable. I know that in some cases, it depends on the type of motor. I don't know if they changed motors in the early to late vacs or not. It would be interesting to know. I'm going to try setting up my saw with 1" pvc if only to possibly cut down on any whistling at the tips. I'll have to get my configuration first and then order some of the Loc-Line pieces as needed. I hope I'm not making a mistake that will make the whole thing too bulky. I'll do some more thinking on that. Also, I'm thinking about incorporating some sort of cyclone separator into the system. Lot's to think about. Thanks for your input. Oh, and to your first question, it was on Craigslist. Ray

    This is picture of the stand I built. I wasn't quite finished here. After finishing it up, I found that I liked it better with the single leg in front for me to straddle. I would like to figure out some sort of wheels for it also but I don't want to give up it's solidness. It sets very still and no vibration. I have also acquired an old office chair that is adjustable so it's very comfortable to sit at my saw. I was just reading above that one person put 3/4" ply under all the legs of his saw. That gives me an idea of how I can incorporate some sort of wheels that can be off the floor until needed. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

    I guess I should edit this post to explain what I mean. The tiny little blades are so difficult, for me anyway, to keep in the correct position to install in the blade holders. I have a terrible time to keep the cutting edge to the front so I take the blade in one hand, find the flat side with the cutting edge to the front and stick it to my pencil magnet. Then it's easy to put it into the clamps. Maybe you folks don't have a problem but I sure did until I discovered this tip on another forum or youtube. I don't recall where. Ray

    I think I'm going to try to set up some kind of cyclone separator and then I'll work on an over/under vac system like you guys have. I like the flex lines (Line Loc?)too. I'll have to get some of that stuff on order once I see what I need. Do you recomment 3/4" or 1" pvc piping? The guy I bought this thing from suggested some sort of a bleeder to lessen the vacuum when not needed. Do you folks have anything like that incorporated? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm all ears. Ray

    I sort of did the same thing when I first got my saw a year or so ago. Then, I got sidetracked on other stuff and am just now getting back to my saw. My first project was a fretwork butterfly. I tried to do a bit of puzzle making and found that I had lost what I thought I had under control so I'm going to do some more practice. But, you are right. I'll probably get bored and try something like this again. Ray

    Well Iggy, I have no idea how much farther you plan to go with this "how to" guide but from what I just read, you have done a fantastic job so far. You might even consider putting it up for sale to new folks to the flea market/farmer's market venues. What not make a buck off of it if you can and help others at the same time? Just my opinion. Anyway, keep on writing. It's very interesting. And as a side thought, you might even consider doing some video'ing on one of your events. Ray

    Have any of you ever thought of using a small magnet to hold the blade in it's correct position? I have a telescoping shirt pocket magnet that I can put the blade on and use it to hold the blade while I guide it into place. Works great. Ray

    Thanks Don, I have a few things in mind but I don't have the right material at this point. I DO have a ton of scrap wood that I'm going to paste all the practice patterns on and cut the heck out of them. Then they go in the trash. Ray

    Scrappile, as a suggestion, you might try using a larger opening right at the saw blade and under the table. The whistling is caused by that small opening I'll bet. Try going to a larger pipe/tube and see if that changes it. Ray

    I thought it was your picture that I had seen. Thanks. I love the set up and I will try to design mine along the same lines. How often do you have to service your Fein? Do you have any type of separator in line? I'm worried about having to buy filters or bags. What say you?

    Thanks Scrappile, I appreciate your help. Just out of curiosity, how do you have yours hooked up? Have you posted a picture of your setup? I 've seen a few but don't recall whose or what thread or ????? I have a very small shop and I want to try to use the space as productively as possible. Ray

    Dang! I was hoping. But that's ok. I've never had a VS vac and have managed so far. I'm going to have to build some sort of a cyclone for it now. Maybe a Dust Deputy is in order. I'm going to head to Goodwill and see if I can find any attachments that will fit it too. Thanks for your input. Ray
