Edward, here is a Woodcraft store that may be near you. If they are like the store near me, they have classes in all phases of woodworking. I might suggest you look into what they have to offer. Edward, you are doing fine. Take your time. Just remember, once the pattern is removed, there will be no lines for anybody to see. You can make a lot of mistakes and nobody will ever know. I'm in the same boat as you as far as experience goes. I am doing a wall plaque that will be a gift and I'm really taking my time and trying my best not to make a mistake that's really obvious. Keep up the good work and post your finished project. Ray

Charley, did you see my question above regarding how you manage to get as many as possible onto a sheet of paper? Can you give some detail on how you do that? Also, the easiest way to throw pics up here is with your phone. Both still and video. No moving parts. Ray

There is supposed to be a way of "tiling" a picture within the confines of the 8.5 x 11 paper. I was able to do it but it cut off the tips of the antlers and the feet of the reindeer. Not sure what I did wrong yet. I'm hoping that Charley will see my question and chime in. Ray

I have a question regarding the printing of the pattern. Or any pattern for that matter. When it comes to controlling my printer I never seem to be able to get it to do what I want. How do you take the pattern of the reindeer and print out as many as Charley mentioned on a single sheet of paper? I can't seem to figure that out. Any help from you folks would be greatly appreciated. I have an Epson WF-3640 printer. When I tell it to do wallet size pictures, I only get one instead of the 9 that it says I can print. I can't seem to find the setting for that. Ray

Thanks Charley for the excellent verbal tutorial. I will also save it to my computer so that I can read it over and over until it imprints in my hard old noggin. I want to try this idea too. I used to go to all the woodworking shows each year and there was always a guy there demo'ing the Hegner saws and he would talk to you while cutting those little reindeer and do it almost without looking at them. I guess it's muscle memory or something but I was impressed. So, now I will give it a try . Thanks again for all your efforts to put that article together. Sometime, you might try adding a couple pics to it just to give the readers a visual to make it a bit easier to read. Either way though, it's fantastic. Ray

I built a stand for my Dewalt out of 2x's and 4x's. For the top, I used a large piece of glued up wood that I found at HD. I hinged it at the front edge so that I can lift it at the back and put whatever height of block under it to achieve the tilt angle that I want. Ray

Well, let me tell ya's, at 8:30 a.m. I hopped out of bed, put on my shorts and a tee shirt. Flip flops on my feet. I went out and got the paper. It was a bit overcast but nice and warm. I may complain a lot about the politics here in California but it's all about the weather. I guess that's why folks are lining up to live here in a basic home that starts at about $600K. Ray

Thanks Len. That is exactly what I was trying to say. And I like the idea of a magnet to keep track of them. Also, I like the idea of tape. I'm thinking about maybe doing a color code system too. A few different colors of Sharpee markers and a chart to tell me what the color means. If it's a FD UR, for example, that might be green. And so on.......

I hate to say it but that's what the younger generation has become in many cases. I will say though that I joined a few forums on electronics and 3D printing and have found them to be pretty good and most folks are polite. I have no idea whether this is truly the case but I have found that young folks have no patience and are quick to cut you off. I'm not saying all of them so please don't climb my tree.

Thanks for all that info. I am too new to understand what is meant by "agressive". I am doing a plaque out of 5/16 BB plywood. I am using it as my practice before doing the actual one. It will be out of 1/4" BB. Anyway, I'm using the Pegas #3 MGT blades on a very slow speed to learn control. At this point, I don't feel like I know what I'm doing to go any faster. I like what I'm experiencing but I don't have anything to compare to yet. If I was to take out this blade and try an FD, the Pegas blade is still cutting good so I don't want to toss it. That is what brought up my original question. I'll just muddle through and figure it out I suppose. Ray

I guess what I meant in my original post is there are a ton of different blade patterns, and manufacturers and sizes so if a blade still has life in it and you want to save it, is there an organized way to save them? I like the magnet idea and I'm sure that after I get more, shall we say, learned, then I will be able to pick up a blade, scan it for pattern and size but the brand will still come into it. Right now, I am trying Pegas blades and I have some FD and Olsen too. Different cuts and sizes. So, I still haven't homed in on the brand that I like. That's why I have blades that still have life in them. I don't want to just trash them. Ray

You are probably right on. I guess once I figure out what blades to stick with, it would be silly to have a bunch of "sort of used" blades hanging around. They are cheap enough to just not hassle with them. Thanks. Makes perfect sense. R

Thanks, I'm not trying to use old blades when they are done. But, in the process of trying blades to see what works best, I might only put a few minutes of cut time on one and it's a shame to just toss it when it's almost new. So, I guess I'm trying to figure out a system to keep them sorted by their type/size/brand away from the new ones. I hope I'm explaining myself clearly. R

I'm still trying to figure out the whole "blade" thing. I was wondering a couple of things. First, how do you know when a blade is worn out? Second, since there are blades for all different kinds of cutting, what do you do with a used blade that still has life? How do you keep track of which blade is worth keeping and what it is etc, etc, and so on. I'm just sort of curious as to how each of you keep track of your blades. It's easy for blades that have never been used and are still in the package or tube or whatever but what about the semi used ones. If I'm being a nuisance, please tell me. I just want to figure out the best methods for organization. Ray

Len, there must a setting on your computer that is keeping you from viewing it. Have you checked your firewall/virus settings? Something is blocking you. Keep trying. You'll figure it out. Are you able to view any youtube videos? Is it just this one that is giving you trouble. There are a lot of sites that can offer you help but if it's only this one, then there has to be a firewall problem. Ray
