    I'm looking at an ST-14-3 on C/L right now. It's located about an hours drive south of me and the fellow is asking $55. I wrote and told him I wanted it if it was in running/operating condition. I'm waiting now for an answer. I don't really need this saw but I WANT it. As I said above, I like older stuff and enjoy getting it all up and running once again. And for $55 bucks, heck, it costs that much to take the wife out for dinner anymore. I too will give this saw a going over and report back what I find. I won't be spending any money on upgrades until I see if it's a keeper. But, if I find that it is, another $100 dollars or so is not much to pay for a good running saw. These things come with a foot pedal and stand so there is not much else to buy. It should be fun. Ray

    A while back, I found that I was missing an issue. I am a subscriber so I called to ask whether I could purchase a missing copy. They graciously offered to just send it to me. I said thanks and went on my way. About an hour later, as I was cleaning up the top of my desk, I found that missing copy. So, I called them and told them to put that shipment on hold as I no longer needed it. They fell all over themselves thanking me for calling.     Well, please let me know. I have been trying borrow a neighbor's clamp screws just to see if it makes a difference in my machine. It seems to me that my saw was much more smooth running prior to my installing the bigger knobs. It just occurred to me recently that they may be the vibration I have been chasing. Ray

    Iggy, I did the same thing for my Dewalt. Not a roung wheel but a larger version of the original knob. I epoxied them on. Now, I have some doubts though as to whether they might be just a bit out of balance and cause the machine to vibrate at high speeds. Ray

    I somewhat agree on the sped up parts that are repetitious. Such as when a bunch of holes are being drilled or screws inserted. Over and over. I don't need to see all that. But to watch you doing all the intricate cuts, I was watching your hand movements more than the blade cutting. I need to learn all that part. Ray

    A man cannot have too many tools. I have some that may not get used at all. But, it the need arises and it gets me out of a jam, then it has paid for itself. I sold tools for a living and I'm a firm believer in this. Ray

    Thanks for an excellent description. I can envision it like you are here. Ok, I get it. And, I see no reason to have the blades centered in the clamps. As long as the blade is straight and is running perpendicular to the table. Thanks for taking the time.

    Randy, have you checked out Otto Frei? They specialize in watch tools. I bought a gross of 2/0 from them along with some other stuff. I'm not sure if my price was good or not but I was told to buy there from the guy who I took the class on marquetry from. Ray

    Your method sounds interesting but for the life of me, I can't decipher what you mean. I guess a picture is worth a thousand words for someone as dense as me. R

    Also, if you have a lot of time on your saw, it might be time to do an inspection of the tiny roller bearings in each joint. I did a bearing service on mine, using synthetic grease, and after putting it all back together, it seemed like every joint was tighter. I fully expected to have to replace some of the bearings and sleeves but luckily, they were not worn enough to require that. These are great and very durable saws if maintained properly. Ray

    This is the kind of info I still have to gather. I start using a blade and don't remember to experiment with others. I take it you are using Flying Dutchman? I bought a sample pack from them but so far I have only tried one of them. I can't recall what it was. Right now, I'm using the Pegas #3 MG. It works ok but I think I'd like to try something that doesn't have any reverse teeth to see if it cuts down on the wood lifting. I'm cutting a project out of 5/16" BB but not the best grade of it. I got it cheap.

    I try to check C/L every day if I remember to. I'm always on the hunt for the many things that I still want but refuse to pay full price for. If a deal comes along on a different brand of saw that sounds too good to pass up and is within an hours drive, I'll try to get it. Ray

    Thanks. I think it's going to be the answer to the problem of sawdust under the saw. It was only a few bucks too. Of course, I got a heck of a deal on the used Fein on Craigslist. I also discovered that the air blower is reversible so I was able to move it out of the way. Ray

    I just finished my vac system for my Dewalt 788. Here are some pics. Nothing fancy but very functional. This is also in answer to the OP's question. The Dust Deputy works great. So far, it has caught almost all the sawdust. Don't look at all the other crap. My shop is a work in progress. And before anybody mentions it, I haven't tried tilting the table yet. That may require some minor adjustments. Ray

    I'm a relative newbie to the scrollsaw hobby. I found this place and leave it open on my computer all day everyday. I have learned so much and I always seem to get my questions answered.     It's not that. She used to do all the finish sanding and staining. We have neither of us done any painting other than to paint the house. Now this is a whole different thing. But, I like learning new stuff. I guess that's why I'm also learning about microprocessors and electronics. The old mind has to be kept busy or it flames out. And once your flame is out, well, you know......... Ray
