  1. I was happy to hear that I was right. Thanks. I pretty much found the same. I was cutting a stack of 1/4" walnut & maple 4 plies thick. The Pegas #5mgt did a much better job and was more steerable.
  2. A wise decision. Since the router makes a huge mess, I avoid using it as much as possible.
  3. I grew a full beard in 72. Had most of it ever since. I shave once a week so blades last quite a while but my old Gillette Sensor is getting hard to find blades for. I thought I might just buy an electric to use in between. I'll hit the Goodwill for a used Norelco.
  4. How about electric shavers? I need one. Razor blades have gone to the moon.
  5. I use a $15 H/D heat gun. I keep it plugged in and hanging from one of my shelves. It has two settings. Warm and so frigging hot you could melt the sun. I really have to be careful. When I was in the tool business, I used to sell the Master brand heat guns in body shops. They sold for over $100. Not sure what the difference is.
  6. Or worse!
  7. Why one piece?
  8. Do a search for Olsen blade chart.
  9. I like your style. Looks like a "bush fix" that I might come up with. Watch those flea market sales for $5 corded drills. Use them til they die.
  10. You've got a truly great saw and once you get to know it's quirks it'll serve you well for a very long time. Do think about those Pegas chucks though. That might take some of the 40% away.
  11. You won't be sorry. They are lighter than the factory clamps and just work better.
  12. I'd be very surprised if it doesn't. They are so much smoother. And if you really want to tie a ribbon on it, buy a set of Pegas blade holders for it. Much better than what comes on it.
  13. Short answer......NOPE!
  14. What Wayne said. I actually had to remove all 3 screws and rotate the motor to the next set of holes to get my Ex21 to be at 90 degrees to the table. Use a slotted screwdriver to rotate the motor's armature forward and backward.
  15. All scroll saws have some degree of vibration. It may be a matter of adjusting the aggression out of the motor. I've got a 16 and a 21 Excalibur and they both have sweet spots at just over 1/2 throttle. A better mounting will definitely help. I have both of my saws mounted on homemade carts that sit on foam shop flooring.
  16. My thoughts precisely!
  17. I clicked on that link but there are only 3 clocks down. No fourth. Is there a name?
  18. I would think that the lever would have some sort of bend/curve in it and won't be driven out. There must be another way. I'm not familiar with how it looks but from what I can imagine, it would have to have some sort of raised portion that would be rotated like a cam against a friction point. Maybe a picture would be in order. Also, have you checked Youtube for an instructional video? I would think by now somebody would have made one.
  19. When I bought my first used Ex21 I got a ton of blades with it. A good amount of them were the PS blades in all sizes. I had heard that they were supposed to be the "cat's rearend" so I looked forward to trying them. I had been using Pegas #5mgt on 1 1/2" mahogany compound cuts. I was disappointed in how they worked so I went back to my Pegas blades. I was not impressed.
  20. @dgmanNot sure about that. Has something changed that I'm not aware of? I tried to buy it on Amazon but they wouldn't ship to my address. Something weird here. I just checked Lowe's and they are in the same area as my H/D store. They sell mineral spirits under the brand name Jasco. Are all mineral spirits the same?
  21. Speak for yourself Ike. We aren't allowed to own it here.
  22. I'll bet they don't have FD or Pegas blades though. Nothing else for me.
  23. Probably not a bad idea. It really depends on how old your saw is. There are so many used Hawks on the market that you might be able to upgrade by getting a newer version of your saw. I bought one a while back, a 226 Ultra with all the latest stuff that had been added prior to their newest model. I paid $250 for it and it only had about 20 hours on it. Depending on where you live, keep an eye on Marketplace on FB and Craigslist. But, try to educate yourself on all the nuances of the Hawks. There have been many changes and upgrades to their saws. It sounds like yours is an old model.
