I got mine from D and D blades. Unit was $90 but since I also bought blades I am not exactly sure what the shipping cost was for just the holders.

Pull the nozzle off and put it in a dish of mineral spirits (old yogurt container) for about ten minutes or longer. Remove and dry with a paper towel and reinstall. Has worked very time. I do it periodically.

Iggy keep us posted. I have used them in the past and they have always been spot on. I need to reorder soon so I will be watching a waiting. Anyone can make a mistake but a good company will fix them hassle free.

It is simple economics that internet based stores tend to be cheaper then brick and mortar retail stores as they have less overhead. $85 a pound sounds high even with shipping. Have you checked with internet sellers like Amazon?

I agree with Fred. A number 5 spiral is way to big for thin stock. Go with a 2/0 or a 1. I never cut one piece of 1/8" or 1 /4" plywood or solid. A single piece is more prone to break out.

Ike these are precision milled out of high quality aluminum and not cast aluminum like comes standard on the Dewalt. In theory they should eliminate the blade holders from striping out and blade slippage which are both known issues on the Dewalt. They are also lighter then the standard and are supposed to reduce vibration.

Lowes and HD sell pvc lumber. I have seen 1x material and trim moulding. If you have ever had to replace rotted door or window trim you can appreciate it as that is a job you don't want to redo. You might want to check it.

I cut some PVC pipe on my saw. Cut very easy. I would think sheets would cut like like thickness plexiglass.

This has been post on SSV before but if you look there is a column labeled Pilot Hole. It shows the proper hole to drill for all the major brand/type blades. First there are drill bits out there that small but you won't find them at Lowes, HD or your local hardware store. Most places that sell scrollsaw blades carry what are called "Number bits". Here is one example: https://mikesworkshop.com/collections/accessories/products/miniature-twist-drill-bits What I like to do is find a bit close to my blade width (kerf) and drill a starter hole at both ends. It tends to give a more balanced and deliberate appearance.

While there maybe some I have never purchased a pattern that said you could not sell the final product. I have purchased patterns for most of the major designers.

Danish Oil is just a name. It is a blend of oils and hardening agents. Unlike linseed oil and mineral oil Danish Oil dries and creates a hard finish. As Fred mentioned all finishes sold in the U.S. have to be nontoxic once cured. That could take hours, days or even weeks. Personally I would either us Shellac.

I agree with Kevin about wood density. If you look at the end grain of your board I bet you will see the light and dark rings are running very close to vertical. See below example. The dark rings are harder then the light color rings so cutting slows down when you hit the dark ring and speeds up when you hit a light ring. . This wood does not tend to warp or twist much so it is often sought after by furniture makers. The actual name for this type of grain is "quarter sawn". It has to do with the way the log is first cut in quarters before boards are cut from the log. In places that sell furniture grade lumber quarter sawn wood sells for a premium as it harder to cut, requires larger diameter logs and a log yields less lumber.

I set them out for about one hour per side. Since I wipe most of the excess first I do not get any real build up.

The wire you see on Iggy's racks is called hardware cloth and is available at hardware stores or places like Lowes and Home Depot. My racks are similar but are designed to be carried outside. Weather permitting I find exposure to some sunlight and breezes speed up the drying process.

Cutting puzzles also requires frequent blades changes. Most rookies and even non rookies, myself included, tend to over use blades. As the blades dull we naturally tend to push which causes the blades to flex and thus not cutting perpendicular. This is especially turn in tight turns which your project has many of. Looking at that puzzle I would expect you to use at least two blades if not three.

I like Dgman do not paint except backers. I like to incorporate the grain in my projects. Wood has life and beauty. MDF does not.

These threads are hard to reply to. Yes I have my go to blades as most do. But I am not closed minded and continue to read, watch, listen and experiment. My go to blades now are different then what I would have said 5 or 10 years ago. I really let the pattern, thickness, and materials dictate my go to blade and many times I will change size or style blades on a single project. I have about 20 years and thousands of hours of experience. I have taught scrolling classes and done demos at numerous wood working shows. Whether a newbie or an oldbie it is best to try and see what works for you on a given project. I will tell you I use mostly flat blades and today I use mostly Flying Dutchman or Pegasus.

My brother in law cut his finger down to the bone with an electric chainsaw. His job was a part time handy man. He had terrible insurance. The accident cost him $5000 out of pocket plus he was pretty much out of work for a month. Had no problem with getting the CFO to approve a SawStop.
