  1. Burn first. Burning is a good way to also separate areas that are being stained and not stained or being stained another color.
  2. You want to be perpendicular to the table. That way the pieces can be inserted from the front or back.
  3. I seldom cut a single piece of 1/4" wood. I like to stack cut 3 -4 pieces depending on the pattern. My go to blade is a #5 FD UR but depending on the pattern and even the part I am cutting I might switch to a #1 or #3 FD UR or even a #1 or #2/0 spiral. I also use Olsen #5 PGT at times Point being don't lock yourself into one blade size, brand or type. Experiment and see what works for you.
  4. I have bought some. I have used free patterns I found online. I have used patterns from magazines and books. I even have dabbled in designing. If I see a project I like I make it. There is no right or wrong. As far a purchasing I like Shelia's and Sue's work.
  5. The site is working now. Guess they had a server issue.
  6. Using the best tool in the shop to get a task done is not cheating. Work smarter not harder. Is it cheating to use a drill press vs a old time brace and bit or egg beater type drill? Nope...
  7. I cleared my cashe and cookies and I still can't get in either.
  8. If this is the case, and it does make sense, WTB would have done themselves better by posting the closing of the website a few weeks prior and to also have it posted on their own website.
  9. Did not work for me either but the Wooden Teddy Bear site is up. It is the same company. http://www.woodenteddybearonline.com/x/home.php
  10. I have made hundreds of pieces with backers and I have never sealed the back of the backer. Well I did a couple times because I painted/finished the wrong side but that is another story. I have NEVER had an issue. But then again I use plywood (mostly 1/8" Baltic Birch) for all my backers.
  11. Sorry to say but it really sounds like a motor issue. Sounds like the motor is over heating and once that happens it cuts off until it cools down. Signs of a switch issue is it not turning on or off and not just stopping mid cut.
  12. Melanie I know Judy Gale Roberts has a purple EX-21. Since you are going there soon you might want to ask her. The other place to check is with Seyco. Ask for Ray. http://seyco.com/scroll-saws/ 1-800-462-3353
  13. Nah....
  14. I am a top feeder. I said it and I am proud. I tried the Jim Dandy and did not like it. The reason I did not like it was I had to push and hold down on the top arm to get it to go all the way down and stay there. To me that was more a pain. I guess it is just me. Anyway I think I still have it in draw if anyone wants to pay me postage to send it.
  15. I attended the 2014, 2015, and 2016 Open Houses / Woodworking Show. They were great events. As Rolf said it was advertised in all the Fox Chapel magazines, on all their forums, on their Facebook pages and if you look back you will even see posts on this forum about the 2016 Open House. Yes it was in PA so it was easier for the East Coast folks to attend but then again we on the East Coast can't make it to the Mid West Picnic event. I do know a fellow scroller who drove from WI every year. I understand business and I can see why FC had to do this but in by opinion loosing this show is not good for our hobby. Unlike Rolf I do not have any connection to Fox Chapel.
  16. I am not a lawyer. My take is if used the image to make a personal profit you should pay the fee. By that I mean mass produce items of that image. Since this is a one time gift you are OK.
  17. I use clear packing tape on all my solid wood projects. It really makes a difference reducing burn marks. I do not use clear or any kinda tape on plywood only because I have found removing the tape caused wood fibers to lift off.
  18. I have an extra Dewalt stand you can have for free but I am probably 8 hours from you.
  19. Iggy, you say you shrink wrap them after they are sold. How do you store and transport them? I have soaked puzzle parts in oil based finishes for as long as 30 minutes and the parts do not swell. Water base finish is an entirely different story.
  20. We serve!!!! The design is copyright protected so you won't find a pattern for sale. If you want to make one for your club or yourself you will need to make your own pattern.
  21. I have traveled the roughly 6 hours to the Lancaster show the last three year. Wife and I make kinda a mini vacation (I go to the show and she tours around the Amish Country). 6 -8 hours is kinda my limit so Michigan is too far. I highly recommend the Lancaster show if you can swing it.
  22. I have used Baltic Birch as well as oak and maple plywood. With BB I prefer 1/8" but with oak and maple I use 5/32 or 1/4. I always stack cut at least three pieces. I use both flat and spiral blades depending on the part I am cutting out. My "normal" are #1 spiral and a #3 FD UR.
  23. I use both and I get both from The Wooden Teddy Bear. Both have pluses and minuses. I find the Olson PGT more aggressive then the FD-UR but to me they dull faster. So I use the Olson on the thicker hardwoods (1/2" or greater) and I use the FD-UR on plywood and thinner stock. Even plywood and thinner stock that is stack cut. Like several others I recommend you experiment. What works for some will not work for others.
  24. What? No pictures?
