    Temperature doesn't matter for me, workshop is in the basement. Which is good as it was -51C with the windchill this morning when I woke up!!!! The discussion I had with the shop here in town was that they thought the "board" "electronics stuff" should have been replaced, but Dewalt thought differently. It's there now and hopefully it won't be quite as long as the first time around. I also switched the blade clamps back to the originals (which the bearings needed to be replaced) and hope that they might do them (goodwill gesture!!).

    Sadly, I have spoken to soon. Got it all set up and before I cut anything did a test run. Sounds better than it did, but still a lot of knocking and some hesitation in the speed. Heading back to the shop at lunch today. ps, I put the original clamps on this time - maybe they will fix them as well!!! 20190129_192346.mp4

    Picked up my repaired saw earlier today!! They replaced the motor, brush assembly and connection rod assembly. Hopefully I have time tonight to do some sawdust making!!! The only thing that I should have done before sending it off would have been to put the old broken blade clamps back on the machine. Oh well. Also, apparently when the service shop I took mine to there was another one with the same issue; I was glad that it wasn't anything I did

    I got the old laundry room in our house, which was refinished last year. Hubby has one of the bedrooms as his hobby space!

    I just watched a video with the magnets for zero clearance - WOW!! Brilliant, I thought. Will be trying that out as soon as I get my saw back!

    It is the motor, brushes and control board. New in Winnipeg through Canadian Woodworkers is $699.95 plus 13% tax, no trade. I am near a border town, but with our dollar at .75 or so, it would be very close to what I would pay here anyhow. On the Bob Brokaw video, he talked about the motor and in 2014 when he did the video the cost of the motor (USA) was about $250. We don't have an active Craigs list in Winnipeg, Kijiji doesn't have any available. Went with the flat rate as it seemed to be the best option. The guy at the shop I orginally took it to isn't charging me for any of the work they did. He liked that I was well informed about the machine and knew what I was talking about - so thanks to all on the formum for making me look good!!!

    Got this cut between Christmas & New Years. Finished it on the weekend. Question for anyone who has done this - how did you actually do the support?? I know I didn't do what the directions suggested - it didn't make sense to me, so I went my own way on it.

    Options are: Their repair bill - $520, Dewalt flat rate repair - $320, trade in for a new saw $550. Went with the flat rate repair!!! Hopefully it will only be a couple of weeks. Unit gets sent to Edmonton. With the flat rate repair, they also check the whole saw over and repair everything!!!

    Well, The saga continues. I ended up taking the saw in to a service centre. It turns out the motor is bad. Just waiting to hear about some options.:( Spent the weekend putting finishes on projects that had be cut but not yet finished. I guess that was a good thing!!!

    Thanks for the suggestions and help. Here is another video. I have tightened the bolts, as you can see. When I originally greased it, I only removed the sleeve on the pivot point. I did try to put some in the points behind with an old blade. The only bolt removed was that main pivot one. 20190109_191738.mp4

    Well, now for an update!!! Was cutting today and it didn't blow up - but it did just stop. Guess I am watching more videos and taking it apart again

    I have never expected my hubby to work on items that are mine! Even down to the car. Years ago, when you could actually work on cars, I did the oil changes, filter changes and even the spark plugs!!!

    Starting the new year with a refreshed saw. After watching the videos on how to grease the bearings, I finally got around to doing it! I also waxed the table. Did a test cut and it didn't blow up!!! lol

    Have used most of these methods. Will have to try the toothbrush!!! Don't know if it was mentioned, but I glue a piece of sandpaper to a ceramic tile to achieve some flat sanding!!

    I have made three of the same beginner bowls from Carol's book. Didn't get the drill points sanded out completely, but they are for my own use, so I wasn't to worried. Used a spindle sander and my belt sander on them. I did buy a rounded sanding attachment for the drill press, but wasn't very impressed with it. I think that is more user error than anything!! I have decided that I just don't like cutting bowls lol. However, never say never. Might go back and try some more. I do love the look of them!!!

    Here are a couple of ornaments I did last year. I send my nieces and nephews an ornament every year just to say I am thinking of you.

    Last time I got a call like that I asked for a return number, received it. Then I told them I was going to pass it on to the police. They hung up immediately. Still getting the CRA electronic calls telling me I am going to be arrested!!!

    I'm with you on the "too frustrated" Until I can sit for hours and hours at the computer, I don't learn very well by watching videos or reading the books.
