  1. Cut a small circle and glue it in the "a". 1 small error does not make it designer firewood. Fredfret Wichita. Ks
  2. Plain end blades are for doing fretwork is small areas with much smaller blades than can be made using pins. I have a Dewalt 788 and a RBI Hawk both use ONLY plain end blades. I can usually change from one type/size blade to another is about 30 sec. Tension adjustment can take longer on the RBI only when changing from Large to Small blades because the tension adjust is on the rear of the saw. I think many of the complaints you are reading about are from people who have to use additional tools to change blades. My old Dremel saw took about 3 min to change plain end blades (the prime reason I got rid of it) Fredfret Wichita, Ks
  3. Companies go with cheap stuff to increase the bottom line. It seems the finincial training now says "profits today tomarrow dosen't matter nor do the customers." I call them "Ferengi" form star trek. The only thing that matters is profit even if it kills the reputation and company. Fredfret Wichita, Ks Rant over!
  4. Great Pics. Puzzles should be a visual treat to put together. I would recommend 1/4" Baltic birch or Italian Poplar for the backer. Waiting for Project photos. Fredfret Wichita, Ks
  5. I've used it for carving when I was a Kid. Not a normal lumber yard find. It should cut very easy. Not usre about holding fine detail. It is much like oak to finish (needs a filler) Fredfret Wichita
  6. I chang e the blade when I have to push a little harder to feed the work into it OR it just does not want to follow the line. I have blades last 10 min to 2 hr. Cutting 1/2" pine maybe 1 hr. Cutting 1/4 in Baltic Birch Plywood 20-30 minIt demands of the design also effect blade life a very detailed item with a lot of sharp turns will shorten blade life faster than cutting a long circle or the outside od a large project. Change blades often as they are a lot cheaper than most hardwoods and designer firewood is not a big seller at any show i've been to. Fredfret Wichita, ks
  7. The "pressure treated" one kind of worries me. The chemicals used for MOST pressure treatments are Poison (arsinic). The cutting looks real good but the health aspect of pressure treated well! Fredfret Wichita, ks
  8. Curious why you painted Corian? The Cutting is great. Fredfret Wichita, ks
  9. Any "wood" glue that soaks into the fibers of a well fit joint or edge will be stronger than the surrounding wood. A sloppy joint or edge with gaps will fail as then rely only on the glue. I use Titebond or Elmers carpenters glue as they are available almost anywhere. Fredfret
  10. Glue. A good glue joint is stronger than the wood it's made of. I use screws or pin/brad nails only when using thick (3/4 or more)as a perminate clamp for the glue. FredFret Wichita, Ks
  11. Two way cut (Crown Tooth) have 2 teeth up and two down making it reversable. Ultra reverse have 2 down and 1 up making it a one way blade with a reverse tooth. Fredfret Wichita, Ks
  12. Sloans Fredfret Wichita, ks
  13. Gwinnett Woodworkers made a video some time ago showing how to overhaul a 788. I know it is on Youtube. I have it bookmarked at home but alas I'M at work. I would at least look at it before I spent 250 bucks. If I could do it myself for 50. Let us know what happens. Good Luck Fredfret Dw788/BM-26(RBI) Wichita, Ks
  14. Karl, I don't see a real problem with that adds to the challenge. I suspect you are guilty like I am of adding a little side pressure on your cuts. Possibly your saw has a Large front to back offset and faster turns can cause similar issues. Something new to learn/practice every time I use the saw even after 20 years. Fredfret Wichita, Ks
  15. John, I use #1 or 2/0 for 1/8th inch BB. To check 90 deg take a piece of 3/4 or thicker wood cut a straight line in about 1/4 inch. back the blade out abd turn over the wood now see if the BACK of the blade will go in. If not your blade and table are not at 90. This is a fairly cheap and easy way to check. Good Scrollin. Fredfret Wichita, Ks
  16. Make sure it's a clean one. Some pallets have had some very toxic chemicals on them and may not be waht you want to breath or use. Fredfret Wichita, ks
  17. Dennis, I keep a piece of 220 grid PSA in a piece of scrap bb ply between the saw and my puzzle piece storage/assembly area. Cut it, sand it, put it together. Just the way I do it. Good job your piece size is about 2 per square inch nice for an adult puzzler. Fredfret Wichita, KS
  18. Scrollsaw = .144 kW Dust collector = 2.4kW Shop Vac = 1.44 kW Total=3.984kW Approx 28 cents fredfret wichita ks
  19. A #5 skip tooth non reverse, Slow saw down (test speed on scrap), TAPE your lines. Thats what I do and I have very few problems unless I get in a hurry. Melting back together is bad!! Fredfret wichita,ks
  20. Try Clothing Dye. Test it on scrap first. it is water based so thinning is easy but it raises the grain. I use it for Ornements and some toy parts. I use shellac to seal it but a poly would be a better choice for something around liquids. Fredfret
  21. The FD new Spiral blade has teeth on both sides of the blade before it is twisted. The old style only has teeth on one side of the blade. I use both styles and flat blades. Each has it's pros and cons. Try different styles and sizes and keep what works best for you. Fredfret Wichita, Ks
  22. I use Baltic birch for poster size puzzles for my grand kids a 25 by 30 inch poster is about 60 pieces. Iuse a 2/0 spiral blade to keep a large kerf. Fredfret Wichita
  23. A few years ago some folks in Colorado were "making" Colored wood with Red, purple and green the species were Pine and Aspen. I lost track of the address and have been unable to find anything about them. The wood was very sinilar to what you showed but the red and purple were amazing. They showed the stump from a cut to show that it was not a post harvest dye . Fredfret Wichita, ks
  24. Use a mirror or cd to reflect the underside of the project while holding it up slightly. Fredfret Wichita, Ks P.S. the new Hawks can be top or bottom feed.
