  1. Colwood sells one that looks almost the same. And is called the detail master.
  2. The acorn nut is a good choice.
  3. Longlasting saws tend to be expensive new. Hagner and hawk are prime examples. Both can be had for well below retail on the used market and are solid machines. New prices are 1200 and more. Not saying other Sawa won't last but I hear of them being 15 or 20 years old and still working. Check out Craigslist, eBay and local auctions. Let us know.
  4. I sit but have bad knees and legs. Try your saw both tilted and flat. I sit on a homemade 21 inch high seat for viability on my hawk and have a tall stool for when I use the Dewalt that is tilted. Do what feels best to you
  5. Contact bushton. I don't think it would matter except for tensioning . I haven't touched the tension adjust in almost a year I use 2/0 to #5 .
  6. My daughter gave me a sign with guard pomeranian on duty on it. Seems to have worked no intruders yet.
  7. Olson, Flying Dutchman (niqua) or Pegas are all good blades. The general rules for pinned blades hold true for pinless blades. Thick wood use larger blades Low detail larger blades Thin wood or high detail use smaller blades. I use reverse tooth blades for most everything. Sizes from 2/0 to 9. I also like the modified geometry blades from Pegas. Spiral blades I prefer the flat end due to less slipping. Realize that most all flat blades will have some oil on them and MAY have to be cleaned off I use a piece of 400 grit sandpaper on both ends of all my flat blades just in case. Check out the catalogs for the different makers the info there will help. Fredfret Wichita, Ks
  8. Sad part is most warning signs are because someone couldn't figure it out on their own.
  9. Plywood and real sharp points don't work well Baltic birch helps but does not eliminate the problem. Working tense on any machine is not a good idea the scrollsaw how ever will not take a finger on hand unless you really want it to. Afterwhile a broken blade will become just another day at the office. Keep at it your work has looked very good. Fredfret
  10. You can find tubes of powered graphite at michaels, Hobby Lobby and any where they sell pinewood derby kits. Scout shops usually have is as it is the only approved lube for pinewood derby's. Pencil "lead" is really graphite in solid form. Fredfret
  11. My hawk has a place on the accessory arm for a magnifier lamp. Which model do you have? Fredfret
  12. Menards has it in 4x8 sheets. I've never used theirs as I buy from a wholesaler that sells to the public. Many scrollsaw pattern sellers also sell BB but the shipping can be expensive. fredfret
  13. What type glue do you use. Your videos make it look like a contact glue. Is that correct? I really like your patterns. Thanks Fredfret
  14. Mulch around the trees, When I cut Oak, Hickory, Walnut, Maple I save the dust for my smoker same with small scraps of those woods. The rest is mulch or a real sparky addition to the fire pit. Fredfret
  15. Where do I get that grill. Fredfret
  16. Does anyone know if there are any clock movements that chime Navy bells. 1 ding at 1230, 2 dings at 1, 3 at 1:30 and so on until 8 bells at 4,8,12. I'm working on a nautical clock for myself and a friend we are both retired sailors and love to confuse landlubbers with navy traditions abd terms. Fredfret
  17. Side pressure, Incorrect blade or pushing too hard along with grain of the wood can all cause this if the blade is not vertical both side to side and front to back. The thicker the wood the more pronounced the difference. Have you tried making a cut into wood of the same thickness backing it out then inverting the wood and placint the cut at the back to show that the blad and table are at 90 degrees? Fredfret
  18. RBI Hawks can cut up to 2 inch but are 1200+ new used almost any price age, condition dictates. fredfret
  19. Marg, I have seen many people make some very detailed cuttings in exceptional highly figured woods. In my opinion the beauty of the wood and the pattern were both destroyed. Detailed patterns for plain wood simple patterns for detailed wood. That is only my opinion. Sorry your piece broke at least it was repairable.
  20. Removing the burr does not dull the main cutting teeth. The first few inches you cut will remove most of the burr. Sanding the back edges will make sharper turns.
  21. IMove the letters down they will touch the caduceus and the edges. Fredfret
  22. I'm willing to help you with that. Fred fret Wichita ks
  23. Kc.has some great bbq on both sides KS and mo. Fred fret wichita
  24. Charles dearing has a video on youtube that shows his method. I use a program called Coyote that works ok but high detail involves a lot of work. Fredfret
  25. Different plywood cuts vary in results. Baltic birch is a good choice for scrolls aw projects . Spiral blades will make more fuzziness than straight blades. A#5 spiral is a huge blade for 1/4 ply. I use #2/0 or 1 for that thickness. I use a backer for almost every project I use a spiral on. 1/8 ply works great . If the backer has to many fuzzy it's designer firewood. This helps but will not completely eliminate the fuzz but will reduce it on the top copy. Fredfret
