  1. Do you top coat with anything? My grandkids chewed on a couple cars I used food coloring on and were beautiful shades of red, blue and green in the face for a couple days. Fredfret Wichita, Ks
  2. Check out woodturning supply places Packard wood comes to mind I'm sure there are many more. West Penn hardwod may also have what you are looking for. Fredfret
  3. The water cooling is for cutting glass, tile, stone using a diamond blade. The drip system does not need a hole on the bottom as it is placed above the table and drips liquid directly on the blade at the cut. I have no idea what the hole is for. Fredfret Wichita, ks
  4. PVC pipe with end caps 1/2" to 1" work fine. Neighbor was putting in new irrigation system scrap pipe I had to buy the caps. Fredfret Wichita. Ks
  5. If I am using a blade that was press made (Olson, most FD) I cut with the waste on the left side of the blade usually a counterclock wise rotation. For machined blades (Modified geometry by Pegas, Olson PGT) I cut clockwise for most things. Fredfret
  6. I use a systen similar to Sycamore67's with the addition of a dust deputy attached to a shop vac. I estimate I get 85-90% of under table dust and maybe 70% above. Most of the above table dust is the largest particals as they are blown away from the dust pick up. My main saw is a Hawk the backup Dewalt has not been turned on in 2 years. I really don't notice the noise but 20 years around Jets and Ships causes hearing loss. Fredfret Wichita, ks
  7. Bushton Mfr is really a family business with several branches. I only know of 6 or 7 people who work there. The town they are in has a population of 300. Just to let folks know that Hawk tools are NOT built by a Delta sized company. I'm sure your Saw will be delivered at the approx. date and should be everything you hope for. It will take a few days to get used to as things are different from Dewalt 788s. FredFret Wichita, ks
  8. If you use a calandar or a poster as long as you give it not sell it copyright does not apply. I freehand about 10 or 15 calandar puzzles and 1 0r 2 poster size (grandkids) per year. I use 3m Super 77 on both the wood and paper I do not use any finish on the picture side and onlr a spray of shellac on the back. I also write the source and artist for the pic along with " Cut By" and a date. on the back. Fredfret
  9. Clear or oil finish. The oil will darken things a little and the grain will pop out. Beautiful job. Fredfret Wichita, Ks
  10. Cedar, Teak are the first things that come to mind. Those can be used without a finish. If a finish is used Spar varnish well rubbed in and use a couple thin coats. Cypress if avail might work. Cost and availability may dictate. Fredfret Wichita, ks
  11. Bearings can "work" well at one speed and not at another. Usually the higher the speed the more problems. I believe the wires are all plug in/on. Gwennet woodworkers has a fine video of the bearing replacement procedure but I dont have the exact title for it. You Tube has it. I have not had a need to replace my bearings in the 788 and may never as I use the Hawk 99.98% of the time. Fredfret Wichita, Ks
  12. I went from a DW788 to a BM26 3 years ago Just took a bout 2 weeks to get used to the diff style clamps (non-insert) I did have to adjust the set screw a little on the bottom and clean off the oil from the blades (400 Grit Paper) no other problems. What is bothering you? Fredfret wichita, ks
  13. Most of these were put on by SAW affiliated clubs and a few vendors (Slones, Art Factory, ect) the lack of interest in SAW and the amount of time required and expense along with insurance and liliability issues is what I believe has sadly put the "picnics" in the history books. The Art Factory is sponsering a "trade Show" in Iowa in Aug this year. I won't be able to go as it is Friday and Saturday not to mention a 10 hr drive. Fredfret Wichita, Ks
  14. I use a ruler with a thin edge to fold the pattern I aslo make sure my stock is cut at 90 deg. for the dege I'm using for the pattern. I want to know how to make patterns for compound cut projects PLEASE make a tutorial. Fredfret Wichita, Ks.
  15. The Tower of Time is a Wilckens pattern and is avail on their website. Cost is 125 USD for printed pattern (34 sheets of 22x34 paper). Having seen the real thing I'll Pass my house is to small for it. Fredfret Wichita,Ks
  16. The manual is availiable for download on their site. It looks like it ia a later RBI built but Nilus or Nicole will be able to give you a better idea. Fredfret Wichita, Ks
  17. Dave, Contact Bushton they can tell you a lot better than I can. I know the Bushton models have updated electronics and motors, The blade clamps may also be different. Otherwise the saw is the same. Bushton's Phone is 6205623557. Hope this helps. Fredfret Wichita, Ks I drive a BM-26 and a Dw788.
  18. Welcome neighbor. I have had some success at Menards east and at Schmucker Lumbe up by Inman. Online Ocooch Hardwoods have good stuff at reasonable prices fast shipping usually. The handsome woodman in Oregon shows tthe acutal board fut shippin is costly. Let me know if you find someone closer. Fredfret Wichita, Ks
  19. Good plan Ranndii923. I would suggest using some pine and maybe some 1/4 in plywood until you get the feel for your saw and feel comfortable making basic items then trying "better" materials (Walnut, Maple, etc) If you can get it without spending a lot Baltic Birch plywood is much better to cut than the usual Ply available at the big box stores. Hope you enjoy this as much as most of us do. Welcome. Fredfret Wichita, Ks
  20. Your problem may be a simple adjustment of the Draw Rod it's located in the top area where the switch and tension adjustment are. I don't remember exactly how to repair it (I haven't used my dewalt in 3 yrs) Check Rick Hutchinson's Site Scrollsaws.com I know he had an item about how to fix the knocking. It is not broken but it sure is annoying. Your saw and my dewalt are almost twins. Fredfret Wichita Ks
  21. Look for K&S precision metals they have a huge selection. My local ACE hardware has a small display of their stuff. almost any good train/ RC hobby shop will have at least a small selection. Fredfret Wichita, ks
  22. Consider a RBI or Bushton Hawk They meet all your requirements except price. Craigs list/Ebay for used. Fredfret Wichita, ks
  23. I suspect a loose bolt/nut. Take the side cover off and look for loose parts. Dewalt website has the parts breakdown showing how everything goes together. Fredfret Wichita, ks
  24. Marg, Check that the very end of the thumb screw turns if not Ray has repair kits avail. If the little tip does pivot then a light sanding of the ends of the set screw and the knob should do the trick. I had to do this weekly with my dewalt ( nearly identical to the EX.). Fredfret Wichita, Ks Hawk 26 and Dewalt 788 driver
  25. What type of projects do you want to make? What thickness of material? What material? If you intend to make mostly projects from 3/4 in wood a #5 or 7 skip tooth blade will be your best choice. Christmas ornaments from 1/8 in wood with intricate inside cuts a #1 or 2/0. Cutting metal use metal/jewlers blades. To find out what you need and like check out the Olson blade chart available at the olson site. Pegas blades and flying dutchman also have information. I started with a selection from a pattern retailer check out Slones, Wooden teddy bear, Wildwood designs. If your library has a copy of The new Scrollsaw handbook by Pat Spielman read the chapter about blades. I know I did not answer your question but you have to do some experimation with different blades and makers to find the ones that you like and use. I have about 15 different blades from 3 different makers and when I find new blades/makers I try a dozen. Fredfret Wichita, Ks
