Hi Renay, welcome to the village! It sounds like you do not have enough tension on the blade. You want to hear a high “Plink” when you pluck the blade. If it just “Clunks” when you pluck it, it’s to low. I assume there is a knob at the back of the top arm. Turn it clockwise till your blade plinks. Good luck!

E6000. Comes in a tube. It dries clear and slightly flexible. Will adhere anything to anything. Been using it for years for pin backs without any failures.

I love those Marg! Every year I do a two day show at a local church. I always try to make something for all the volunteers who work the event. These are perfect! I will glue a pinback on them so they can wear them on their aprons.

Yup, Walnut. The typical walnut you buy at the lumber store is steamed to produce the uniform brown color we are familiar with. Air dried walnut will retain its natural colors which includes the purplish color you see in the picture. Steaming Browns the whiteish sapwood so the board will be a more uniform color.

I do this too. If the backer is to be painted, I paint first then wait till the paint is cured, or if I’m using a hardwood or a hardwood plywood, I’ll go ahead and glue the overlay to the backer, then cut the outer circle together, then sand to finish.

This is why I use hardwoods! No paint, no stains. A soaking in 50/50 boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits brings out the natural color and grain of the wood. Then a few light coats of spray on lacquer as a top coat.
