Nice work Les! Hardwoods have a natural beautiful to them.Painting would cover that beauty. Using an oil would be my choice. Then a topcoat of lacquer or Polly would be great!

I would not stain that beautiful Walnut! Are you going to use Walnut for the base too? If so, I would glue them together first, then soak in a 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. Wipe off the excess, then let dry for 24-48 hours. Then you can apply what ever topcoat you want. That Walnut will look so great with oil rather than stain!

I think if you take a pole, most don’t do it that way. I glue the pattern to the bare naked wood, then clear packing tape on top of that. I don’t have problems with the blade gumming up no matter what blade I use.

Nice work Paul! I’m only guessing here but it looks like the holes were drilled with a Forstner Bit then a round hardwood plug inserted as a backer then your cutouts glued on?

Welcome to the Village! Chances are you do not have enough tension on the blade. Blades need to have a high tension on them or they will flex when cutting. When they flex they will break. Your saw should have a way to tension the blade, usually with a knob or lever. If not, it will make a nice boat anchor. Can you post a picture of your saw or maybe a model number?

Hi Renay, welcome to the village! It sounds like you do not have enough tension on the blade. You want to hear a high “Plink” when you pluck the blade. If it just “Clunks” when you pluck it, it’s to low. I assume there is a knob at the back of the top arm. Turn it clockwise till your blade plinks. Good luck!

E6000. Comes in a tube. It dries clear and slightly flexible. Will adhere anything to anything. Been using it for years for pin backs without any failures.

I love those Marg! Every year I do a two day show at a local church. I always try to make something for all the volunteers who work the event. These are perfect! I will glue a pinback on them so they can wear them on their aprons.
