    i havent tackled that one, but have done the dome clock and workshop clock. in my opinion, the patterns are very good and explanatory, although i changed them up a bit. that would be a great one to see a "works in progress" thread on!

    this is about 5% of what i have stashed. time to clear house! i did manage to get my camera out and figure it out. it takes mucho better pics.

    being in florida, it could be cuban mahogany. would be nice to see a piece without the finish.

    got a picture of the end grain with no finish? if you slice a thin piece off the end, 1/4" ish, hold it up to a light and can see through it, it is probably red oak.either way, a great score! adding to waynes link, heres a list of the different mahoganies and characteristics: http://www.wood-database.com/#m theres also a section on oaks http://www.wood-database.com/#o

    i had problems with the set screw on the left side of the upper clamp loosening up and moving a bit. made it a bugger-bending the end of the blade a wee bit making it difficult to feed the blade. what i did was get a longer one at ace hardware and put a wrap of plumbers tape around the threads. a tedious job in itself( getting a wrap of that tape around suck a small screw), but stopped that set screw from moving.

    we dont have massive fires or mudslides.droughts dont last long. i can add layers when its cold. i can only strip off so many clothes when its hot before people complain.we can build snowslides for 4 year olds and watch them having a riot in the snow. we can go out and be kids with em.

    for me theres beena few variables. first one being practice. theres been times after cutting ive thought i should have had the grain direction differently. theres times when im doing something like an eagle, i try and get the grain to flow with the feathers. basically i try and envision the work completed and how it would look. ill take the pattern and set it on the wood and move it around. sometimes i really complicate it and end up putting a pattern away for a bit.

    kevin, are you referring to the clamps on the EX? if so, maybe im not understanding or maybe im doing it wrong, but i just push the blade all the way back in the clamp and clamp. i havent really noticed any problems doing it that way.

    marg, ya'll do have some very nice woods in australia i would love to have a supply of. we have a menards locally that opened about a year or so ago. that had a LOT of the blue stain pine in 4" and 6" wide and 8 and 10 foot length. a lot, as in entire bunks. if i would have thought a bit about it then i would have seriously stocked up. this time i had to do some digging to find a pair of 1 by 6's with the stain.

    yup, its like curly/flame/quilted maple. theres millions of bd ft of maple cut every year, but a very small percentage is curly/flame/quilted.

    im upgrading my picture takin machine.seems my sister has pushed me to start selling my work and i gotta have high quality pictures, so sis is going to bring over her equipment this weekend and we';re going to set up a booth type thing in the basement. right now i just use my tablet, but dont know why it has that foggy look. seems to be happening on everything i snap a picture of with it.

    its quite amazing what a frame can do. with this one, i think the right mat and framed it would be outstanding

    thanks! believe it or not, that was a mistake. i made this inside dimensions of the frames the same size as the work. DOH! i happened to have some oak in the lumber rack so cut/planed some down to 1/2" by 1/2" and cut to fit.

    i think i had about 10 ish hours cutting this over a while. im thinking there was around 300 cuts. fun one and i think the blue stain pine with oak trim makes it pretty nice. seems my thoughts for a winter project have changed from a couple months ago. now my main project is dont freeze in the shop!:)

    one suggestion i have: start with the lightest colors and go to the darkest when painting

    reads like either table not square to blade or forcing the wood into the blade. gotta let the blade do the cutting. checking square is pretty simple- i think theres a video or 2 on YT that shows the process.

    ive been to your etsy site and your work is top notch. lasers have a place and some people only care about price. however, there is a market that is growing again, which youre proving, for true handmade work and people will pay for that.

    although i dont do shows, ive been asked similar,too. ive been thinking about making a little writeup to put with my work to explain how to tell the difference between works done with a cnc,laser,and scrollsaw.

    thanks all for the kind compliments. ralph, i used #3 spiral blades and #56 drill bit. i drill the holes in areas where i can feather the edges of the vein to make the hole disappear.
