  1. Thanks to all. This site has so many willing to help. It's very much appreciated.
  2. The last time I made a birdhouse was as a ten year old in Elementary School Wood Shop and that was over sixty years ago. My question is: Should the inside of the birdhouse be painted (before assembly/glueup) or is it sufficient to assemble/glueup the birdhouse and only paint the exterior??? Even with latex paint I am wondering about fumes on the inside of the birdhouse if the interior is painted. I know someone here probably makes birdhouses and can let me know what is proper.
  3. The more your feet are dependent (i.e. below your heart) the more they will swell especially if you have some sort of venous insufficiency (I do so I know a little about this ). Also for me at least I am on a fairly heavy dose of Lasix to help "get rid of the juice" as my Doc. puts it. Only down side is if I'm going anywhere I can't take the Lasix. Too hard finding a wheelchair accessible bathroom. Is part of your pain neuropathic?
  4. Beautiful.
  5. What a great discovery. Glad you're going to be "back in business" soon. Shows that sometimes hanging onto an older tool is a good idea.
  6. Very Well Cut. Both fine. Just a personal preference: I like the second one, with the elongated font and a little different display of the grain , the best
  7. You can also call a "Mike's Woodworkng" number (503-760-1614) which is not the same as the wooden teddy bear number(1-888-762-9149) but is, however, dufferent than the original "Mike's Woodworking" number. The fax number is the same for both entities 503-761-2674. I called the "Mike's woodworking" number and asked if I could also order patterns etc from Woodden Teddy Bear. The answer was no. I called wooden teddy bear and asked if I could orderFD Blades at the "Mike's Woodworking" price (espcially the shipping price) and was again told No. Had to make two orders - one to "Mike's Woodworking" for blades and one to Wooden Teddy bear for patterns etc.
  8. Thanks for the tip and the caveat as well. Next time I'm there Ill have to take a look.
  9. This is EXACTLY the one I was talking about. Thanks. That's what I remembered seeing before and couldn't seem to find again. Thanks for posting it again. It's appreciated!
  10. Honey, Whiskey and Lemon. Equal portions of Honey, Whiskey (single malt is not necessary - rye will do the trick. Single malt should not be adulterated with honey and lemon juice) and Lemon juice. Take a tablespoonful every two hours Hope you feel better soon. Parliament should pass laws to make better weather in the U.K. mandatory.
  11. Thanks for the hint but that is definitely NOT what I was thinking of at all. More than one hose TO the Scroll saw.-one hanging from the overarm right near the blade and one to the dust collection port under the table.
  12. Mike's sample pack are ALL no. 5's - just different styles FD-UR-#5, FD-SR-#5, FD-TC-#5, FD-PSR-#5, FD-Polar-#5
  13. Someplace I recently saw a picture of somene's dust collection setup for his scroll saw. He had several pipe fittings together from each of which there was a hose. one hose to the dust collector port under the table and another that went up along side the scroll saw and was zip tied to the overarm and came down right near the blade to collect the dust above the table and one to the dust collector (shop vac ?- not sure which). Maybe even a third hose for dust collection - not sure about the third one but there were two for sure. I can't seem to find the picture now. Anyone know the one I'm talking about??
  14. Hi Kevin, Forty years ago I kept fish and had three tanks - two of them 55 gallon ones. One salt water and one fresh. I had a Silent Giant for each of the big tanks and a cheapy for the small 20 gallon tank. Sold them with the tanks and fish and everything when I moved to a small house where I didn't have room for them. The Silent Giants were great pumps but unfortunarely aren't made any more. I've been looking in the want ads for a used one but no luck. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I've also been considering hooking some tubing to the output side of my shop vacuum. (using the input side (vacuum) hooked to the dust collection port of the scroll saw. The shop vacuum is running anyway so why not use the output side (blower) and a piece of tubing to blow sawdust off. Might give that a try as well.
  15. I recently was given a Ryobi CS165VS Scroll Saw. I like it very much but the sawdust blower which is run by a bellows actuated by the saw doesn't really work well at all. I read somewhere that some scroll sawyers are using an aquarium air pump to provide enough air to really blow the sawdust off the cut line. If you use an aquarium air pump, which one do you use (Brand) and what size ( what gallon tank rating)?? Any help would be appreciated.
  16. Glad you're "back in business". Beautiful scrolling on the signs!
  17. Ouch. Hope you will heal quickly. This has been a bad week for hands.
  18. Bummer. Don't know if this will help but take a look: p.s. NOT calling your scroll saw "Cheap" but thought this might still help
  19. Rockler and Woodcraft both have Dust Collector adapters that reduce from 4" to 2 1/4" or 2 1/2"
  20. In the year I've been back woodworking, as a GIMP, I've been remarkably safe UNTIL yesteday. I was drillng 5/8" holes in 3/4" MDF with a spade bit. Don't have a vise. Was holding it on the table with one hand and operating the 3/8" Drill motor with the other. Somehow the bit came through on an angle and bit into my hand below the thumb I'm on blood thinner (Warfarin) and Boy Howdy - Bled like the proverbail stuck pig. After a half hour with it still bleeding we called the local gendarmerie to haul my corpus to the ER. By the time they got there, it had finally stopped, after about fifty minutes bleeding pretty good. Not a good day.
  21. Ido I scroll and turn indoors. Use a very old 8 gallon Craftsman wet-n-dry Shop Vacuum. Hooked to a Rockler lathe hood for the lathe and to the dust collector outlet on the scroll saw. It REALLY Does SUCK. Dust mask for my lungs.
  22. Yesterday was a Bad day. I managed to have a drill bit slide off a work piece and drill my left hand pretty deep and since I am on Blood Thinners I had a devile of a time stopping it bleeding. NOT A GOOD DAY. On the plus side one f the Public Service officers who came out noticed my workshop and then looked at my pens and bought a Gun Metal Finish Magnum Bolt Action in Mesquite. Other two guys also want one so I'll have to make some more
  23. I'm not sure about the glue between layers holding when it' steamed. Heat and Moisture. I suspect it's gonna delaminate and if not that then as others have mentioned I don't think it'll hold it's bend because of the lawyers (pliies) going in different orientations.
