  1. At my last craft fair, someone asked if I could make a box with a duck hunting theme. I don't generally do custom work but came up with a design that the lady liked so here it is: Thanks for looking. Rob
  2. Beautifully done Dan. I love the border and the font you used. I agree that Walnut would help the "M" stand out a bit better though. Very nice piece! Rob
  3. One hole at a time eh? Beautiful work but your avatar says it all really! Rob
  4. Good work on both. Those are not easy first cuts. Give yourself a pat on the back! Rob
  5. Yes, but I have on one occasion done just that when cutting a large piece that was too big to turn on my saw. It can be a useful trick to get you out of a bind. Rob

    Critters

Very cute and good sellers too I bet. Rob
  8. Wow Dave. Just Wow! The word masochist comes to mind... Rob
  9. That combination works well. I cut the bike a couple of years ago and dropped it a couple of months ago. It's now on the firewood pile! Rob
  10. That looks great Tony! Rob
  11. I like both. Great cutting either way! Rob
  12. OK @Iguanadon how did you get on with BLO mix? Personally, 50/50 BLO with white spirit (mineral spirit to you) or turpentine is all I use. I tried mineral oil (paraffin liquid over here) once but hated the fact that it didn't dry. I do use it in a beeswax mix though. Rob P.S. have sent a few customers your way recently (for patterns).
  13. You certainly have inlay down pat Charlie. Those are excellent. Rob
  14. Looks great Edward. Hope you sell out! Rob
  15. Beautifully cut Brenda. They will be thrilled! Rob
  16. Wow Charlie. That is some cutting! Rob
  17. Great cuttings but I can see why you want a rest from cutting those! Rob
  18. Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Like I said, I don't really need this saw and it's 500 miles away so I would have to buy it sight unseen. I'm wary of shipping after my Hegner arrived bent out of alignment and I'm not keen on the transformer either. On balance I think I'll pass although I will keep an eye on it in case they reduce it further. If it gets cheap enough, I may take a punt. Thanks again, Rob
  19. I have posted in the past about how hard it is to find a good scroll saw here in NZ but today, amongst the four ( read 'em and weep http://tinyurl.com/yyu6htnn four) second hand saws available in New Zealand today, I found this: https://www.trademe.co.nz/crafts/woodcraft/listing-1946241997.htm?rsqid=e6d1b97606ea401da970f2fa184232d5 Now I know very little about Hawks but at $270 USD, I'm pretty sure that is a bargain. Unfortunately it is collection only and in the North Island, 500 miles away. Can anyone tell me more about the saw based on the pictures? I have a Delta Q3 (great saw but C-Arm so very aggressive and some spares no longer available ) a dead DW788 I drove a 12 hour round trip to get (they are not sold in NZ and it died after 3 months) and a Hegner multicut 2sv (variable speed) that I imported from the UK at vast expense. I love my Hegner and don't really need another saw but a bargain is a bargain when all's said and done and it looks to be very well engineered. It will probably cost another $100 USD to ship it to the South Island. Does anyone own a Hegner and a similar Hawk and can give me an unbiased opinion on the advantages, disadvantages of the Hawk? Any more insight as to the model it might be, age etc would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance, Rob
  20. That looks great and the extra pieces really do add to it. I know what you mean about where to keep it though. It would look great on a mantlepiece over a fireplace. Rob
  21. They will love that. Nice job! Rob
  22. Top notch inlay Dave and the frame is beautiful too! Rob
  23. Really like the truck! Rob
  24. I bet that was a nice combination. Rob
  25. Having a lot of fun making these lately but don't worry I only have a couple of mechanisms left! This one is from Steve Good and is cut from rimu finished with 50/50 BLO. Rob
