  1. I have a similar one and it does get some condensation after prolonged use but I just wipe it out with a paper towel and get back to cutting. Rob
  2. One other thing Melanie. If you do drift off the line a bit on the inner or outer curve of a letter, you may be better off making the same error on the corresponding inner or outer curve rather than slavishly following the pattern. Symmetry is the important bit. But hang on, I just saw the "Joy to the World" you cut, so what's all this nonsense about being intimidated by letters? Fine letters are no different from wider fonts, they might even be easier. Get stuck in! Rob
  3. I'm not an expert by any means but I would start with the "For The" in the centre just in case I stuffed up so as not to waste too much timber. But try and keep the scrap and tape it back in place to protect the lettering while cutting the rest of the plaque. I would also beef up some of the bridges such as the bottom of the "d" and "a" by cutting a little short of the pattern or adding another bridge at the top of the letter. Good luck, Rob
  4. Very crisp. Lovely! Rob
  5. Beautiful cutting Les. I don't recall seeing the original photograph but I don't need to. That is as good as any photograph! Congrats to Mahendra too for the pattern. Rob
  6. Good work. I made a few of the man cave saws but they took ages to sell. Hope you have better luck! Rob
  7. Love it. You should add it to this thread... Rob
  8. Great job and the frame is beautiful. So glad we don't have any of those here in NZ though! Rob
  9. Lots of work but what a great result and a super gift. Your friend is very lucky! Rob
  10. Hmmm? bringing the scrollsaw to the chair rather than the other way around? I like your style sir! Rob
  11. Very cool! Rob
  12. That's lovely. When I cut it, I got lazy and skipped the lines in the leaves. Yours looks much better. I like the rounded edge too. Rob
  13. I cut a lot of hearts but this is one I haven't cut before. I love the moment when you switch from convex to concave, it's like riding a motorcycle through the twisties. Cut from the side of an old drawer box and finished with linseed oil and beeswax. Thanks for looking, Rob
  14. About level for me or maybe an inch below. Rob
  15. Very nice Marg. Beautifully cut. Rob
  16. Beautifully done Tony. Great sentiment too... Rob
  17. My daughter would love that! Wrong letter though... Rob
  18. Nice work Marg. I'm sure she will love it. Rob
  19. Great project. The lighting effect is very cool! Enjoy your new Hegner! Rob
  20. Hi JT. I made myself three sets of these nesting boxes from 6mm (1/4") ply. Simple but joint construction then rounded over and painted satin black. They don’t take up too much room and can be configured in several ways. You can construct a variety of shapes by combining sets too. They are 12 x 8 x 6, 10 x 6 x 4 ND 8 X 6 X 2 inches. I haven't had them long but am enjoying the flexibility they offer. I could have changed the dimensions to nest even more in one of the largest boxes but thought three was enough. One other tip I have seen but not used is to put lengths of plastic pipe on your table legs to raise the table up closer to chest height. I would like to try that but would need longer table cloths. Rob
  21. Go for it John. I'm sure you can do it. I did modify the "Have yourself a very Merry Christmas" one to have stars in place of the snowflakes. I cut the snowflakes on the first one I made but decided they were too much trouble. And it's summer down here anyway! Rob
  22. Thanks! Rimu is lovely timber, now protected but I can often find bits here and there. Sadly people are ripping out rimu kitchens from the 1940's and 50's and installing chipboard units. Here is my latest haul I picked up for $30 ($24USD, $27CAN). Rob
  23. The first couple I made sold quickly so here are another three I hope to sell this weekend. Cut from reclaimed native New Zealand Rimu (aka Southern Red Pine) from old drawer boxes and finished with a semi-gloss spray. Thanks for looking, Rob
  24. Ray, I was surprised and disappointed that you didn't love your first Hegner. Fingers crossed this one is better. Rob
  25. Another happy Hegner owner here and no blade breakage problems. Rob
