  1. Thanks for all the comments. Yes, the chair will greatly enhance comfort. My back is held together with screws, links and wires. The chair will allow me more time to sit and scroll. I had been looking at a lot of different ones and this one was perfect.
  2. I am really liking it but am removing the casters for just plain feet. It will feel more secure to me that way.
  3. That looks great !
  4. For Christmas, my wife got me a very nice office drafting chair. I am attaching a picture of my old Craftsman chair and the new one. I have a very bad back and this new chair is great for scrolling with much better back support.
  5. As I contemplate the new year, I have decided to do something new. I vow to try a Fretwork project. I have never done one and will give it a try but it will be something simple and nothing as difficult as many I see posted. My Hegner is not the best saw for this but will give it a try. I am also going to try some more Intarsia with a lot of shaping and probably some puzzles that have a lot of shaping and background. I am also starting to downsize my shop. I sold my 15" 3hp Jet thickness planer but still have my DeWalt. I will continue to downsize this year. I am getting older and just can not stand too long or scroll too long. Arthritis has become my major enemy. Lastly, I want to improve my dust collection by making better dust pickups. My dust collector has plenty of capacity but know that collecting at the source is key. I encourage others to try a different type project this year and out of your comfort zone.
  6. I like scrolling Intarsia and carving the pieces. Also like some carving with puzzles like I posted recently.
  7. I do not sell puzzles and have absolutely no interest in doing so. I have respect for those who do sell as it is not an easy business. If anyone is interested in trying something like this, I would be glad to share how I do it. I would encourage people to try things with their puzzles. Shaping is easy and does not require any expensive equipment. Adding the background is also very easy. I tried to use natural wood colors but when that was not enough, I used acrylic paints and finished with Shellac.
  8. These are two more of the puzzles I made for the Grandkids. The Giraffes were made from Quarter sawn Sycamore. I wish that I had shaped the Giraffes but the Grandkids love the puzzle. The T Rex puzzle was one of my favorites with the tree and volcanoes in the background. The Giraffes and T Rex are designs from Judy and Dave Peterson. I have made many of their puzzles for the Grandkids.
  9. Sorry should have been posted in Bragging Rights.
  10. This is an Elephant puzzle made for Grandkids. I enjoy shaping puzzle pieces and then adding a suitable background.
  11. The one thing new scrollers need is patience. It takes time and experience and failures. You just need to keep trying different things. You are going to fail and just accept that. For me, I love making things and the process of making them. I do not think there are short cuts just practice..practice and practice.
  12. Been there done that and not fun. Hope everything works out well !
  13. No, they were cut in all directions. I had to go to a finer blade. I do not know if I could do it now. The arthritis is my hands has gotten progressively worse.
  14. I went to the Midwest Scroll Saw and Woodworking Trade Show once and enjoyed it. If they have it next year, I will try to attend.
  15. Yes, I cut the Reindeer for inside separately and is A bit less than 1/2" tall. I have also cut small trees, cross, and stars for the ornaments. In addition to having your wood square, you need to make certain your blade is square to the table.
  16. I cut my 3d ornaments from hardwoods such as maple, ash, walnut, poplar. I think poplar is the easiest. Balsa would be too fragile. I cut with a FD Polar 5 or PS Super sharks #5. Typically, I use 1-1/4" thick material. You have to be patient cutting thick material and go slow. These are some 3D ornaments that I have posted before and clamps I use.
  17. My experience is with a very light spray cut, there is no worry about colors running.
  18. Good advice to make first costs light.
  19. Very nicely done !
  20. Personally, I have tried their sandpaper and gotten very inconsistent results. After spending a lot of time making and sanding something, I find it leaves a few odd scratches. Maybe on small things not an issue but on larger surfaces, it is a problem. Now, I use only Klingspor or Norton products. More expensive but better results.
  21. Just a busy time of year. Doing some other woodworking making a Quarto game for a present.
  22. Great piece of art !
  23. Glad to hear you are up and running again. I sometimes will use a small piece of painters tape to hold a screw to the screwdriver. Works well especially if screws are non magnetic.
  24. Amazing workmanship.... Would love to see some in process pictures. The dovetails are so tight !
  25. Joann Fabrics is A place where there are always coupons .
