    I am a Hegner user and lover but..... If I did fretwork I would be looking for something different.

    Do you have a picture and a date it was made. You should find out if it has blade clamps as they are not cheap. I just replaced my 1988 Hegner that did not have the tension release up front. It never bothered me at all.

    Lots of comments and thoughts. If you want some real data on the effectiveness of box fans with filters read this link. it provides info about how fast and to what level a box fan filter works with different sizes particles. This data used a box fan with a better fan than the normal box fan.

    A box can filter will work but not as well as the Wen or other real filter. The box fan filter does not reduce the small particles as well based on some testing that has been done. The best way to collect dust is at the source. All air filters collect dust in the air of the room and after you have had a chance to breath it. Small dust which is most hazardous will remain floating in the air for a long time and also settle on your clothes. We all have different types of equipment. It is important to do the best that we can. Our group is also on the older side and as we age our lungs have reduced capability to handle dust.

    I do not agree about not needing a dust collector. You are sitting very close to where dust is being generated and closer than almost any tool. You are going to be breathing fine dust. I have a vacuum hooked to my scroll saw for dust collection. Personally, I want to reduce the amount of dust I breathe as far as possible. But everyone should do what makes them happy.

    I make certain the surface I am sticking to is clean and smoith. I sand quickly to 220 and wipe clean. I use blue tape on wood and 3M77 to glue pattern to tape. I leave a margin of about 3/8-1/2" around the pattern to keep pattern from lifting. I have no issues with patterns sticking. I also use high quality paper and laser printing. important note is that I do not do fretwork so no issue with problems of peeling the tape off.

    Radiata Pine great wood for a variety of things. It also make good plywood. I find it is much better than a lot of the pine, softwood varieties sold.

    I use Zinsser Shellac all the time with poly over the top and have zero issues.

    I would just try to use very fine steel wool. Try running lightly and see how it looks. You can repeat until you get the right look. I would not use wax as it will give it a polished look.

    It is interesting trying to stain edges of plywood because you have different orientation of the grain. Each of these will stain differently.

    ALWAYS....use a small piece and do a trial!!!! I sand to 220 and wipe clean. I think plywood of any kind can be difficult to stain. The opposite side of plywood often stains differently and finishes differently. They are typically from different grades of ply. Do any testing on the same side as the one you want to look good.

    In my opinion, the biscuits will add strength. The biscuits add extra gluing surface and mechanical strength. However, do you need the extra strength and is worth the effort? Using a good quality epoxy provides a lot of strength and more than enough in almost all cases.

    It is useful to take different blades and compare them with a magnifying glass. You can it e shape and height of teeth, number direction, blade thickness etc. One can tell you all kinds of things but no substitute for careful examination and trials...that is the way to learn.

    I started my new Hegner today and it ran smooooooth. It cuts great and now I have to get the dust collection the way I want it. But that is a small thing. My wife wants to put a Christmas Bow on it.

    Yes, I got free shipping and standard price. I finally got it out of the box and started getting it set up. I am slow as had an outpatient procedure earlier this week.

    Rolf, You have seen pictures of my old Hegner with the dust collection on it. I am using the stand from my old Hegner for the new one.

    This is just like what blade to use. You will need to just try different things. For me, it depends on the type of woid, the blade, wood thickness, and number of curves and how tight. I rarely run my saw at full speed. Some who are in production mode cut as fast as possible. But, I do it as a hobby.

    I just had the same issue. My 1988 Hegner broke and I decided the repairs were too much for a 31 year old saw. I bought a new Hegner. I decided based on that I was comfortable with it and did not want to learn a new saw. I am too old for that. I cut a lot of Intarsia and thicker wood. I also have extra blade clamps, the Hegner table and a dust system for it. I hear good things about the Pegas saw but it has been out less than a year and time will tell about durability. I know my Hegner will outlast me. If you have been happy with your Hegner, why change? If you want the latest scroll saw and something different then the Pegas is for you. Both saws will do a fine job.

    It is a brand new saw from Advanced Machinery and weighs 54#.

    I use a small precision square to align my blades from both sides of the blade.

    Wow, that is hot but I would not mind a day like that now. With the snow and cold here, a warm day,not hot, would be fine. I had to look up your location to learn a bit. I was amazed at the Super Pit ...big deep and dusty and hot and Gold.

    I have several hundred board feet of wood in my inventory including domestics and exotics. I resaw thicker wood to get thinner woods and then run thru a planer or sander for some projects. I will not be running out of wood.

    Yeah, it is a constant battle with the back but every little bit helps.
