  1. I'm with you on staining and sorry for the confusion (rock maple). I'm from Vermont and that is what we always called it, but it is the same as hard or sugar maple. Its what gives us the sap that we make Maple Syrup from.
  2. Ray, I use Rock Maple on nearly all my Christmas ornaments and have no trouble cutting them using the Olson Mach blades. My nephew gives me cut offs from a mill he works at, so the price is right. I love using it for ornaments as they seem to be less prone to cracking and the light color shows up well on a Christmas tree.
  3. Thanks, the box is about 4" tall by 4" wide and about 1 5/8" deep
  4. This is a small trinket box I made for my wife for Valentines day. Another one of Steve Good's patterns.
  5. That is absolutely unbelievable!! That takes some mighty fine skill and patience. I only wish I could do those. Great job.
  6. I bought a Delta 40-694 around the first of December and so far, I love it.
  7. I have not as of yet, but I have only had it since the beginning of this past December. I am a little hesitant to tear it apart because of the warranty.
  8. You will absolutely love the new Delta. I couldn't see the need to spend the extra for the Dewalt either. After having used my new Delta and used my Brother in laws Dewalt, I see no difference at all. Again you'll love it!
  9. Ray, For instance, what I do is pull a pattern into Inkscape that has 6 ornaments on a page and I only want one of them, I select the images by clicking on any one of them which in turn selects them all. Then you go to "object" and click on "ungroup" and this will put individual boxes around each ornament. Then click anywhere off the images to unselect all. Now you are able to click on any individual image and delete it, copy it or move it anywhere on the page. The one thing I might warn you about is when you select each one, use the pointer curser to draw a box around it, as ungrouping may ungroup items within the individual ornament.
  10. Ray, I do mostly Christmas ornaments, so I know exactly what you are talking about. I usually use a lot of Steve Good's patterns which may have multiple patterns on a page and I may only want one, so I pull the pattern into Inkscape and can delete and move others around or even make multiples of the same ones that I want.
  11. Excellent job, and now I'm also going to have to watch those videos. It adds a whole other look to the projects. I really like them.
  12. I like it!! That is really neat. Nicely done.
  13. Great job Dick! I may have to cut one of those.
  14. You'll love it!! I bought one in December and absolutely couldn't be happier.
  15. Ray, as I mentioned in an earlier post, I purchased this saw in December and it did the exact same thing as this thread is about. My first thought was "oh great" having already read this thread. But as I mentioned earlier all I had to do is hold down on the table as I tightened the locking knob and no more rocking. So my thought is if you send it back and get another one, it is more than likely going to be the same. The pushing down motion on the table makes it contact the curvature of the main frame and makes it solid.
  16. The only other thing I can think of is if there is a set screw that tightens the eccentric part to the motor shaft, that it may be loose. May want to check that. The noise sounds about that speed to me.
  17. The pivot bolt on the vertical arm looks to be either loose or broken.
  18. I read on one of Steve Good's blogs that one of the problems he found on the new Jet scroll saw was that the table is set a little too high for the reverse teeth to work properly. I remember him saying that he tried setting the blade as high as possible in the lower blade holder, but it wasn't enough to compensate.
  19. That is really clever. I'd like t know how people come up with these ideas.
  20. I recently purchased a Delta 40-694 just before Christmas and when putting it together ran into this same issue. I cured mine by pushing down on the table as you tighten the locking knob and no more movement. I'm assuming that if I loosen the locking knob and try to retighten without pushing down again, the rocking will be back again also. I hardly ever do any angled cutting so it hasn't been an issue for me.
  21. I love the Olson mach blades. I use the mach #3 blade almost exclusively and get that same polished look on the edges that you mentioned.
  22. That is an awesome job!! I would love to be able to do that kind of work. Nice, nice job.
  23. The wood is cherry. I use the 12" disc sander on my Shopsmith to remove the bulk of wood, then either my belt sander or random orbit sander, or combination of both to finish.
  24. I have had very good luck with the Loc tite brand of CA glue. I can't remember if it was Lowes or Home depot where I got it. Not sure if they have an accelerator or not. I used to use accelerator a lot back when I used to build RC airplanes.
  25. Awesome job!
