  1. They think this is a drive thru or something Boy do I relate to that, I did a sign job (rush) and when they came to pick it up, good news - they loved it, bad news - WE NEED TWO MORE. So what's the bad news with that, their grand opening was in four days! Nice 'rush job', isn't figuring our weird angles fun! Russ
  2. If the intended inlay is not to complicated you could take and apply your pattern to the box with removable adhesive then take an xacto knife and cut on the lines from your pattern. This would give you a 'hard edge' that when using the Dremel you won't have to be so accurate, just remove some the desired material. When doing the finishing of the box cut for the inlay use your xacto knife again to do the detail work. Just a thought. Russ.
  3. what to make next 4 box cars, 3 flat cars, 2 reefers, 3 tank cars, t gondolas, a caboose, and then for the passenger train you need . . . . . . Well done! Did you work from plans, drawing, etc,. An engine or two is on by bucket list! Russ
  4. Everyone says I need therapy but I love playing with my wood shop tools too! Good for you getting your own shop. I just know it will bring you many enjoyable hours of enjoyment and just think of all the great things you can make! Russ
  5. Since this is a scroll saw forum I will make an assumption that we all have some wood working tools. If that is the case check out the many great diy / instructable router table projects that you can Google. I have a Harbor Freight table and use it almost on every project. So far on the table I use ONLY bits with bearings. As mentioned above PLEASE be careful using a router, they do BITE! Russ
  6. I am also a newbie but have haunted every video these fine craftsman here have posted. I think the advice above is the most important and that is: LET THE SAW DO THE WORK It is natural to force the wood into the device, I do it with all of the rest of my wood working equipment. This is WRONG for a scroll saw. Also slow the speed down as it makes it so much easier to follow any pattern simple or complex. To my knowledge I have not broken a single blade because of the substrate, only trying to force the cuts. You have come to the right place for answers tough, these folks really know their stuff. Most important is to have fun, I am. Russ
  7. I have a Hawk and unless I lay on the floor I can't top feed! Sooooo, bottom feeder I am! LOL Russ
  8. without gluing itself back new blades and slow speed along with the tape really helps with plexi. I also cut just slightly OUTSIDE the lines and then SAND my way back to the lines. I've done many but not as a product just for DA' BOSS! Russ
  9. Now that's graffiti I can live with! One would think that fellow has done that kind of stuff a tie or two! Thanks for posting it was inspiring. Russ

  11. Very nicely done. As a model maker I am curious, what material did you use? Russ
  12. You had me scared for a minute with your title 'tool gloat', I misread it as 'tool glut'! One can never have to many tools! Congrats on the speaking gig and on the new toy, excuse me, new tool! Well done to both. Russ
  13. I wish these threads were limited to 3 or 4 replies so I can remember what the heck we were talking about Russ

  16. Gives a whole new meaning to the term 'inflation'! Neat project. Russ
  17. On my Hawk I have T-Nuts for making all the adjustments and blade changes. After playing with the machine for an hour or two today to try and learn how to use it, my fingers were starting to hurt. So I made this little gadget for working with the T-Nuts. Russ
  18. I asked this is on another thread but got no answer, when doing these kinds of puzzles do you place the picture on one side and then the pattern to cut on the backside? Thanks in advance. Russ
  19. I love making toys, but there is not much money in it, however adding a custom logo or the customers name, now were talking! Love the forklift and the added embellishment! Well done. Russ

  21. "we are talking about getting together" We have a group of about 25 northwest ShopBot owners (my CNC machine) that get together once a year someplace near Portland. We have a 8:30 to 9:30 meet and greet, then presentations, lunch, more presentations then the best part show and tell. Lots of fun, great information and super contacts with fellow Botters. Russ
  22. Thanks for the warm welcome. I am planning on doing some scrolling after the New Year as will start my newbie questions then. In answer to some questions above I made an album called Russ Stuff. WARNING - NO SCROLL STUFF - just some of my modeling and some other wood projects and a couple of shop pix. Thanks again for the welcome. Russ
  23. New to intarsia but not wood working. I have a dream shop for my retirement years that includes a ShopBot CNC router, a 19 inch re-saw band saw. cabinet saw, 30 inch drum sander, 24 inch planner and most importantly a Hawk scroll saw. Now the reality is I have used the Hawk very little but my reason for joining this group is to help me change all that. I want to learn how to do intarsia as I have a couple of projects roaming around in my head. My main passion outside of wood working is anything to do with model trains. I am a model maker for the local live steam club which is 1/8th scale or 1 1/2 inches to the foot. Now I want to do some artful things to add to my wood working enjoyment. Please be patient with me if I ask some really dumb questions. Russ
