  1. I would like to thank Laura Soffer for allowing me to use one of her gorgeous photos to create a hummingbird scroll saw portrait. The outside of the frame measures 15 1/2" x 12 1/2'. The portrait is cut from 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood and finished natural. I used a 1/4 underlayment painted black for a backer. The fame I made from poplar, painted flat black and topped with 2 two coats of matte clear. dave

  17. As a newbie at scrolling, I have been trying all types of finishes. About the only thing I have not tried is BLO. This is my favorite. You can buy is at Depot or Ace Hardware for about four bucks. I have been using the matt. After two coats it has a nice low shine. Give it a try you might like it. dave

  23. About two months ago I made this plaque for my son and daughter in law. After sitting around our house for about a month my wife noticed that I put the wrong year in it. Talk about a brain fart. Instead of throwing it in the trash I decided that I would try to salvage it. I put a little creativity to work. By inlaying a piece of walnut I was able to make the repair. It would have been faster to cut a whole new plaque but I would have missed out on the challenge. I was very pleased with the outcome. I think I like the design of the repaired one more than the original. dave
  24. This is a picture of my grandson and son in law. My son in law coached the team. I had to make them a keep sake for them. I cut it from 1/4" Baltic Birch backed in 5/8" MDF painted black. dave
