  10. Mike, I use Gimp or portraits and Inkscape for every thing else. I am a slow learner so it has taken me many hours watching Travis's tutorials which are available on this site. I don't know that one is any easier to learn than the other. I must say that I enjoy the designing about as much as I do the cutting.
  11. Looks to me that you project would be hard to cut. Pretty delicate in several places. Looks great! dave

  14. I found this photo on face book of my son and his family with my daughter in-laws grandparents. The grand parents are not in good health so I decided I would take a stab at making a pattern and cut a portrait to to give them. It was good practice for me. The outside dimentions of the frame is 19 1/2" x 14". I stack cut thee 1/8" pieced of Baltic birch plywood. Thanks again to Travis for the Gimp tutorial. dave

Great job. This is a great pattern to practice the use of spiral. If you don't fallow the lines perfectly it still looks good. You did a great job! dave

  20. We head north the first of May to Illinois to spend the next six months with our grand daughters Thought I had better make a plaque for our house there. Of coarse I will have to take my saw with me. This will be my first time, I just picked up this habit in November. Plaque is 5/8" thick red oak, stained special walnut, and backed with 1/4" Masonite. Plaque is 12" in diameter. dave
