The way they are giving the Dewalt scroll saws away. Something tells me they will not be making the Dewalt Scroll saw as we know it for long.So if you like them you better buy them while you can.I think the next one (if there is one)will be in the 1000.00 range. And if the new King saw starts having good reviews. You could kiss the 500.00 Dewalt saw goodby.Dewalt has always uped the anty along with there prices. Just a Hunch.
How could something so simple work so good.People say that Hegner should update there design after 30 years. It has 2 bushings and thats it .When my used Hegner arrived my heart skipped a beat.Half of the saw was hanging out of the box.i started ordering parts before i unpacked it. Well them parts are still sitting in the plastic bag. When I mounted the saw on it's table, put a blade in it and passed the so called nickle test It has been running perfect ever since I cut a lot of 3/4 Hardwood with that saw.And to me blade changes are simple and accurate.
If it is the saw Hotshot is showing with the front tensioner I would jump on it That option he put on is about 190.00 retail that saw new is 1800.00 and new it will not run any better than the one you are looking at My Hegner was made in 1998 and I bought it last year it is an 18V with stand and front tensioner and I paid 700.00 for it and it works perfect. And if you want to touch up the paint on it Kubota Tractor orange matches perfect.
You stole that vac I have the same one.The new ones are not made in Germany anymore,But the Quality is still there .I have had mine for about 9 years now and not a problem The one i have has variable speed and i use about the middle setting for the Scroll saw witch makes it really quiet. When I am using the lathe I use full power and it is still half the noise level one my shopvac It looks like yours has VS.But I could not tell by the picture.I use both the bags and the filter along with the cyclone and it has been working pretty good
Rolf .I don't know what Hawk saw you have .Bushton changed the design of the arm.It is stiffer on the up and down motion but lateral flex is more evident on the new design Check out there video on YouTube.i have been looking at that saw for a long time but have not been sold on it yet.
I may be wrong .But I think there is a design flaw with the 26" saws.I think the arms are too long and you are getting side to side flex when cutting. And doing puzzles with all of the turning. It will make it more obvious cutting 3/4 and make it really flex.Where as the Dewalt and Excalipur type of saw has the short linkage and the side flex is nill.May not have that problem with a shorter Hawk saw.My Hegner has an 18" arm and no flex at all.I am not an engineer but the longer the arm the more flex under reciprocating load. Iggy try some straight line cutting and see if it is as bad .Of course I may be wrong like I said.
Like I said ,my saw is about 5 years old and I bought it used.Ihad some time on my hands ,so I decided to check the bearings because of the Dewalt bearing problems. They were OK but cleaned and greased anyway
Sam. If you check on page 20 of the user manual you will see that the bearings are roller and sleeve .take one apart and check the condition of the sleeve .It should be fine ,but check anyway
My EX 16 does not have sealed bearings .They are the same as the Dewalt .One day I was bored and cleaned and greased the bearings I bought the saw used I think it is about 3 or 4 YO . It did not need it. But did it anyway
I started using vinyl shelf paper about 2 or 3 months ago and it has been working out real good. No more black on the bock of my work The work glides across it.And it has been holding up real good.It seems like on the Excalibur all of them little Vac.holes have been collecting all of the residue from waxing. Now they are covered up.
Mineral oil does no dry completely. Best uses for mineral oil is on wooden kitchen utensils.Cutting boards ETC.It is food safe. But if you want to put a finish on something I would use either lemon oil or BLO.If using.BLO works better if you cut it 2 Parts paint thinner To 1 Part BLO.But if I am in a little hurry I use Lemon oil.Soaks in a little faster and still brings up the grain. If you already finished something in Mineral oil and want to put a finish on it. Seal it first with a coat of shellac. Then you could put anything on top of the shellac.Poly , Lacquar. It won't effect the Shellac
I know the Delaware store never herd about the King saw. They are now selling Hegner They made a deal with Advance They are the only ones in the USA that sell Hegner other than Advance.
I may be wrong But I bought a lot of Festool from them plus my lathe. And the deal was if you don't like it bring it back I go down to Delaware to save on sales tax
I may be wrong But when i bought my Rikon lathe at Woodcraft DE. I 30 days to return it.They are all franchised stores Some stores may have a Different Policy.
Ebay Made an offer and they excepted .The saw shipped from Maysville Kentucky it was here in less than 2 days. The fastest shipping i have ever seen. It was a weird UPS tracking # I have never seen before
