  1. Hi! Glad to have a new scroller in the sawdust!!! I am retired as well and have been scrolling for many years. I have an RBI Hawk 26" and love it. I wore out two other types before I got this one. Look forward to seeing your stuff. Janie
  2. Thank you for your service with the police. Welcome to the sawdust crowd!!! That is a wonderful project you did. Great job. Janie - woodpecker
  3. Welcome to the addicted to scrolling club! I call them "saw dust buddies". I love to do fretwork as well but yes... blade changing is frustrating. The end project is usually worth it though. I usually buy patterns but can create some from my "coyote" program that makes patterns from photo's. I have to go take some photo's though of things that are feasible to make a pattern. What kind of outlet do you have for your projects? Woodpecker...Janie
  4. Great to have another scroller on board. We can brag to each other and post pics and get lots of ideas. I have a Hawk RBI 26" myself and love it. I've gone through a few others and this is the best.
  5. Hi and welcome. Sounds like you two have lots of fun. We did some traveling on our bike too for awhile but haven't done that in years. I do the scrolling and my hubby does most of the strait cuts for frames etc. Love doing it. Look forward to some of your pics.

Great to have another newcomer with fresh ideas. Ask anything, just here to share and help if possible.
  7. I've had a Hawk 26.. I outgrew the 16 so I sold it. Have fun with it and I guarantee you will become addicted. I got addicted soon after I retired from working(early). I got addicted early too.... my husband would come home and sawdust would fly out of the garage and not a thing was done in the house and nothing even in mind for dinner except for getting something delivered.
  8. Hi there and welcome to the fun world of scrolling. It's a hobby you'll never want to give up on. I've been doing it for about 20 yrs or so. I started off making small things and eventually graduated to more fretwork and portraits and military and western and animals... and about anything else that I can get a pattern for. You can get great patterns from www.scrolleronline.com . I am on my 3rd scroll saw now. I just wore out two of them.. the one I have now is a 26" RBI Hawk. I love it. It was pretty pricey though. I'm not sure what's out there for $200, but I bet you could find something good on Craig's list. I love the brand I have, but I'm sure there are lots of good ones out there. There are several pattern books for the puzzles and games you want to do for your grandkids. Have fun!!!
  9. Here is a pic of my newest project.
  10. Hi Chris, glad to have you in the club. I just came in from the garage covered in sawdust, but a scrolled out "horse" which was very cool. I got new patterns today of Elk and Bears and Horses which are very nice. Colorado folks love this stuff. I sell it at a couple of stores. I use mostly 20TPI blades and sometimes 33TPI depending on the project. I get all my blades from www.scolleronline.com . This hobby is addictive. I've had two 16 inch scroll saws and wore them out. I have a 26"RBI Hawk now that I've had for about 8 years and I absolutely love it.
  11. Can't believe you just started because they are beautiful scrolled portraits.
  12. Hi Jim.... I'm a woodpecker too............ love to scroll and been doing it for years......... Janie..
  13. Hi, Hegner is a good brand so I'm told. I went through a few other scroll saws myself. I have tried a little bit of intarsia but need lots more experience. Wow, you are from England! It is so cool to be in touch with people around the world with the same hobby. I went to London a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I love to scroll and can hardly wait to start new projects. I sell my things at a store in Colorado and also at craft shows in the summer. I am doing a WW11 project now and then will return to the western things that Colorado is known for. What about you? What kind of projects do you do? Great to have you on board............ Janie
  14. Hi, How do you like the Dewalt? I have a 26" Hawkeye. It's the 3rd scroll saw I've had and it's the best one so far. Of course 26" is a pretty handy size. I've been scrolling for many years too. I'm retired now, so it's about all I do. My relatives are probably sick of getting woodwork presents from me for every birthday, and Christmas. I have a few things in a store at a tourist town (Estes Park, CO). Janie
  15. I've been scrolling for many years. It's good for the soul....but not sure about sawdust in the lungs. I love it. I have my own "man cave" in the garage.... but I'm a woman. I have many things for sale in a store at Estes Park, Colorado.
  16. I started scrolling many years ago... it's so good for the soul. I'm not posting pic's yet... but will when I get organized.
