  1. I agree with JT and Scrolsaw703. If you have decided that this hobby is really for you then a big saw is in your future. Most of us say "Oh I will never make anything that big". I want to be limited by my skills Not my tools. One of my first projects was Gingerbread for a shed that I built it was 24" across. All I had was an inherited !6 inch Crapsman saw. Nasty thing when it came to blade changes. It really made my project a challenge. My wife bought me a new Delta SS350 with super clamps. Loved the saw and decided this was a hobby for me as I was selling ornaments like crazy, all really small stuff. Saw stroke was too aggressive. So the following year I decided to bite the bullet and bought the Hawk G4 26. (2005). I have never regretted that decision. One thing to consider with a large saw. You do have a 26" throat but do you have a notch in your belly for when you swing the piece around? Some of my contortions are quite comical. By the way my ornament sales the first Christmas with the Hawk almost paid for it. and it has paid for 90% of the machines in my shop. Very large to 4" tall 1/16 thick.
  2. Blade number is not consistent across all brands . If you compare different blade brands also look at TPI (teeth per inch) It impacts how aggressive a blade is the fewer teeth the more aggressive.
  3. That certainly takes it out of the entry and intermediate range.
  4. Nice save on that oldie, I am always impressed with people that just go for it, after all it doesn't work now sow you didn't have anything to loose. I have used the PS wood machines at a few shows. They are too aggressive for my taste, but some folks like that. Biased to the Hawks, ME, I just wouldn't buy anything else. But it has to be a newer one like my G4 (2005 and newer) I like having top feed capability when doing large fretwork projects.

    Nice!
  6. The only ones I have seen are the ones you found in the Speilman book. I didn't have an appropriate log so I cut it in an old piece of hand rail.
  7. What is the breed? Is it a Husky? What a beautiful dog. Pets are such wonderful companions especially dogs. We rescued a small mix breed last year from a hell hole. His mannerisms dictated his name which ended up being Ziggy. He looks like an EWOK.
  8. The Hegners are great saws and the majority of our club members use them. If you will be doing lots of fretwork I would want the one with the front quick tension release, but it is still a bottom feeder which can be a pain on larger projects. For me I want the ability to top feed on the large projects so for me it is the Hawk G4 26 (2005) I would pass on this saw although it would be a great portable for demos.
  9. Stoney, just looked at the Mustang again, the grain direction makes it look like it is moving. Scrappile do you see what the Tigers are worth now, boy did I love that car. I have a 70 TVR with a 1.6L ford motor, wish it was the Griffith or TVR Tuscan.
  10. Both look great I like it when the wheels are inset. I have always liked Found On Road Dead tweaks the ford owners. Did you also do that very nice shelf? I have a Ford motor in my British sports car.
  11. I have never seen one like that, what a beauty.!
  12. They look great, What did you use a s a liner?
  13. You guys make me feel guilty. I keep an 18 foot (2004) Trophy walk around (designed for fishing) in a slip all summer great fishing all around me, yet I haven't fished for over 20 years. Like some of you I will also be sidelined by surgery May 11. We are all falling apart
  14. You could but for me I very rarely tilt the table to the right so I only need one of the, Jerry I glue it on then carefully sand up to the line on a 12" disk sander.
  15. As I stated earlier it is highly unusual for all of he LED to go bad so it points to the driver like Be O Be says. If it were mine And the MFG won't help I would fix it.
  16. Dave, good decision to be patient. I am also not sure when the Hawks went to the current style with top and bottom feed capability. And much better clamps. I bought my Hawk G4 26 in 2005 and I think it was a new design then. It is a bullet proof saw.
  17. Thanks Jerry. I like the design. I hope you don't mind if share a different version. I did the attached one in Autocad that takes a little different approach and laminated it to a piece of acrylic, but I have a separate one for the left and the right. I like yours and see lots of other applications. I did mine for inlays so I marked the 1/2 degrees at the lower angles. I also have the Wixey, They have a newer version that uses three triple A batteries that last a couple of years. The old ones with the button battery was always dead when I needed it. saw angles-Model.pdf
  18. Schöne Arbeit, Wo wohnst du? Really nice work and detail, especially for only doing this for three weeks. What saw are you using? Your English is very good
  19. Have you tried contacting the MFG? Do all of the LEDS go off? If so then it is either the power supply or a connection or maybe a switch problem. If it comes on for a while and then quits then I would lean towards a defective power supply that is heating up.
  20. I like nice simple and elegant solutions.
  21. I would stack cut three and do all of the above. I agree with Scott about the colors on the Humming bird.
  22. Well said Jim. Scrollsaw703 If we step over the line and things get out of hand, the moderators will step in and do their thing. I am a moderator on SSWWC along with some really great folks. It is very difficult to express oneself in writing, as you don't get to see the facial expressions or body language that would give you an indication of what a person means. I like goofing around and take most comments with a grain of salt. Why would someone go after me if they don't know me.? Having said that there are some inherently nasty and caustic folks out there. I have had a couple of encounters on the SSWWC forum a few years back. The individual was that way with many folks and was banned. I myself have made comments that were misinterpreted and was called on it, of course I apologized as it is never my intent to offend anyone. I don't get it, we all love this hobby and the Forums are and should be a happy place, yes with different opinions and all. yet we had people quit the forum because of changes they didn't LIKE, really? I suspect folks like that are just naturally miserable.
  23. And where is this reputation indicator?
  24. Lose the clear packing tape. The blue tape under the pattern is enough. I find that the clear packing tape gets sawdust under it and obscures the line. Just my opinion. I use mostly Olson blades but also not crazy about the crown tooth.
  25. I remember having a roll of film in the camera for a year or more before it was full. Digital is wonderful for instant gratification. Don't you get an immediate image display after taking the picture?
