  1. It looks great! I was going to ask about the glue but all of my questions have been answered.
  2. Are those the Delta quick clamps? MCmaster Carr is a great source for parts like that. I get all my small mechanical stuff from them. We do a lot of yard sales, very rare that I find a scroll saw unless it is one of the really ancient ones not as old as the pedal type.
  3. LOL They are great looking puzzles. Scott is right about any event, making money is nice, but I really enjoy the people.
  4. Have you considered adding other items besides the puzzles to your inventory? It would appeal to a greater audience.
  5. It is really nice how the forum members keep an eye on each other, what a community!
  6. Blaughn, you are so right! Even though my skin is still thick, my innards are falling apart
  7. Randy, Thanks for the review . I have the new Wixey angle gauges and measurement on many of my tools. They now use 3 triple a batteries that last about 2years. I also did read the SSWWC reviews. Both saws had limitations that would not work for me. One in wood thickness limits the other angle limits. So for the price range that they are in I would spend a bit more and buy another Hawk. JMO
  8. Yikes! glad you chose to investigate and not ignore the problem. I have never seen this happen, thanks for the heads up.
  9. I guess I live in a different area my sales have been pretty stable since I started selling my work. The only pricing question I have had in a long time is a woman that spent a small fortune told me my prices were too low. And trust me I am making a decent profit on my work. Regarding the magazine articles in the different magazines being challenging or not. Is it the projects or is it that our skills have increased to a level where what might have been challenging is no longer.? I love working with wood, all aspects of it and I need to be challenged, and yes I have and do some work with SSWWC. The three clocks that I did were challenging as was the north pointing chariot. Those projects out of necessity took up lots of real-estate. I always wonder how many readers actually build projects like that or are intimidated. All hobby magazines have the same challenge that is to bring in and attract all skill levels. As you say JT times have changed and who knows where the future will take us, but for me, as long as I am able I will have my hobbies and screw the expense.
  10. Looks great. How is the Ascent project going? I would love to get in some saw time but I am in the middle of gutting and renovating a bedroom, down to the framing. Windows, electrics, insulation, new sub floor, sheetrock etc.
  11. Well said Bill. My wife and I go back through the issues periodically and comment "how did we miss this one" especially the Christmas related items. The magazine tries to provide content that appeals to beginners and still challenge experienced scrollers. And then then there is the constant not enough fretwork too much intarsia and vice versa. And of course the puzzle lovers want more of that. Not an easy job that the editors have. Being a test cutter for SSWWC I have done lots of projects that would not normally appealed to me. But once cut I loved them. My first clock was like that, and now I have done three and will do more.
  12. I tend to build booby traps, so that when I move something it starts a chain reaction. That is why I have one of these. https://www.lowes.com/pd/The-Hillman-Group-Magnetic-Power-Pick/3363970 I also put a small magnet in the end of a dowel to help with picking and sorting.
  13. What is the wood?
  14. Thanks for the progress reports on the carousel. Never bored with car pictures. The graphics on the truck are amazing. I see why you put both away for the winter. I am getting itchy to take my car for a drive. I have had this 1970 TVR for 46 years.
  15. Spent some time at Minot AB in the 70's. What truck and vintage Corvette?
  16. Is it all the time or just when turning? The blade will bind if you turn too fast.
  17. You may have to fix your own plumbing.
  18. Looking at the video, yes that motion is not acceptable. But the first thing that I saw was that the blade was all the way to the right in the upper blade clamp. I would remove the screw on the right and replace it with a set screw so that it comes in further. that will move the blade to the left side of the slot.
  19. I hope you honor us with pictures. It always feels good when our work is appreciated.
  20. I like the carousel idea better than the flip designs. The flip designs bring the tools up too high, for me anyway. Shop layout, especially when you have a small space, is a challenge. I thought I was set but now realize I need to add an extension to my Nova lathe and it won't fit where I have it now.
  21. My story, remember you asked for it. Interesting discussion! One never knows where life takes you. My Mom was a technology junkie and seamstress and my Father a true toolmaker so I have been around tools all of my life. Being immigrants from Germany in 55 we didn't have much so we did and built most everything ourselves. I have always had hobbies most didn't last long, then I scrolled some Ginger bread for the shed I built with a scroll saw inherited from my Father. That was around 2004, hated the saw but loved the project. My wife bought me a Delta SS 350 and off I went. My sister talked me into selling some of my work. The feedback from repeat customers is heartwarming for both my wife and I, she doesn't scroll but does all of the painting, marketing etc. I worked at a national lab for 35 years designing and building detectors for high energy physics and photon science research. One project took 9 years from concept to completion, going home and being able to scroll something resulting in a completed project was priceless to me. I can sit at the saw and get lost in my thoughts. But he biggest gift of all was my connection with the folks at Fox Chapel, doing test cutting and doing a few significant projects. Through that the open houses, scrolling forums and sites I have met so many wonderful people from all over the world. Seeing some of the stunning work others do keeps me humble and challenged. The scrolling hobby will be a part of my life as long as I can do it.
  22. A Which I would have done anyway.t that price I would spend a bit more and buy another Hawk.
  23. And if you live on Long Island please come join our scrolling club. Oh and of course Welcome.
  24. Beautiful photo's !
  25. Nice setup! You could also use one of the router mats on top of that so you don't have to do any clamping.
