  1. I posted this on the FB Scroll saw woodworking group. If you want a quick project that will amuse most that see it. this a quick one to make. Balancing Skateboard.mp4
  2. Blaughn , Your sign is absolutely stunning! What font did you use?
  3. Cherry, hard Maple, on occasion Spanish cedar. I do not like red oak,(too grainy for my taste) I literally watched a fretwork basket self destruct while doing a presentation at FC a few years ago. The dramatic humidity change.
  4. Thank you Frank, I agree on SSV membership, a lot of work goes into this great site and the membership contributes a great deal. Thank you Melanie and Frank for the history of this piece.
  5. What is the policy on sharing the free patterns on this site. I posted this picture of some compound cuts on the "Scroll saw woodworking group" on FB. Franks beautiful Two heads design is in the background. Do people need to be members of SSV (they should be anyway) or can a member share the pattern elsewhere? I of couurse said where I found the pattern.
  6. I know this is off topic . But I have a MAC mop the ones with the 1/4 inch shaft purchased from https://www.woodworkingshop.com/product/mm07203/ I use the 180 and 240 grit.
  7. Lots of reasons. In my case it is the season to get my car ready for the shows etc. Get the boat ready for the season and probable sale. Projects for the magazine. Yard work and the list goes on.
  8. I purchased a bunch of different templates on Amazon. But for lettering I use a word program and now I use a Cricut machine. I am current cutting some text for a sign that I am making. You may also want to check out this site. It is free, https://online.rapidresizer.com/make-name-patterns.php
  9. That is why you need to do test cuts. Since different blades have different tooth offsets. Also the quality and adjustments of a saw also impact the kerf.
  10. The designs were something I created from clipart. The box designs are John A. Nelson with some modifications by me. I bought the hinges from https://www.nationalartcraft.com/product-index.asp I don't think the rectangular ones are available any more. I stopped making them as they wasted a lot of wood. Having said that, I still have some of the hinges and should use them up. This was my collection.
  11. Take your time when cutting inlays and make sure not to push sideways. These were 1/4 into 1/4 inch material. Olson 2/0 R 28 TPI
  12. I created this Beveled inlay guidelines chart for myself. I would still do a test cut
  13. Where did you get the Padauk? I have never seen wood color bleed like that. I have had issues when sanding with the sanding dust discoloring the neighboring wood. It almost looks as if the the wood was dyed to enhance it. I would think the color is part of the wood and not soluble. I would put a piece of the scrap in the same solution and see if the color bleeds out.
  14. I like it, no critique from me.
  15. I did a lot of top feeding on my Hawk, after doing it for a while it became a reflex motion. faster than bottom feeding large projects.
  16. If you are going to do any bevel cutting or if you top feed the Pegas is the one I would go with. The Hegner is an excellent saw but I have never been a fan of the clamps. I miss my discussions with Hans, he was one of the owners of Advanced machinery, We would tease each other in German about what was a better saw The Hawk G4 or the Hegner. All in good fun of course.
  17. Thank you for the report. 5) I mentioned in my first report that I find the hard stops at certain angles to be cumbersome. I found another manufacture's saw that has the same tilting mechanism at a nearby store and that one is just bad. Oh well, not everything about the Pegas can be perfect. Just Curious, Why Cumbersome? The EX that I have has the button you push in as you tilt the arm. Yes it is a two handed operation, I use it only when I bring the saw back to 90 deg. the rest of the time I use a Wixey on the arm to set my angle. You mention that the clamps are further apart. Is the upper arm parallel to the table?
  18. The last CD Volume 6 covers Holiday 2015 - Fall 2018 Issues 61-72 I see that https://www.feinschnitt-kreativ.de/ has already been mentioned. I subscribed fairly recently. I can still read German. Frank for the cover price of $8, I think that is probably less than a burger at Mc Donalds. You get a lot of different projects and ideas. Scott, nice job on that Nativity! I have made a couple of those, they are very popular. I modified the design a bit by making the background larger. The other nativity was also from Feinschnitt. I also modified that design to reduce and combine some layers.
  19. How did she do the hearts on the canvas is it stitched? Love them both!
  20. John B, I was just going through my box of ornaments from ornament exchanges and came across the one you sent me eons ago. It still amazes me how smooth and well made it is. Your work is impeccable!
  21. Some really beautiful work presented here!
  22. Here are a couple that I have made recently. One is by Frank EV the other Heart pattern is by Namunolie and purchased on ebay. Absolutely enjoyed making both of them. Franks design has gotten many wonderful comments!
  23. I know this is off topic but I am blown away by what some of the paints cost. My neighbor owns a body shop. Regarding the big saws I have the Hawk G4 26 and the swing has been useful until you try to turn it towards you. I would have to section my body. Is that $1399 Canadian?
  24. I primarily time my work when doing a project as a test cutter for the magazine. At other times like when I do an Intarsia project. People always ask "how long did that take".
  25. I have one of these when I need to carry a line over a corner https://www.amazon.com/Shinwa-Japanese-Aluminum-Saddle-Layout/dp/B00GVBMCLC/ref=asc_df_B00GVBMCLC/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309755258559&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15407268023728738464&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9004484&hvtargid=pla-597912618684&psc=1 The rest of the time I use a precision 12" combination square (Starrett) or a mini 4" version from I gaging but am not impressed with their quality. These squares give a much broader usage than a saddle square. I inherited the 12 combination set from my father, I did not realize that the complete Starrett set is $200 https://www.amazon.com/iGaging-4-Precision-Double-Square/dp/B008DD1ACI/ref=asc_df_B008DD1ACI/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=309748512842&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15993580572656288396&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9004484&hvtargid=pla-598510073964&psc=1
