  1. I always enjoy seeing what beautiful inlay work you have created lately. One day I hope to give it a try. Thanks for sharing and inspiring.
  2. Great gift for his fellow employees. Hope he shares his employee discount with you as thanks.
  3. Excellent job. Like you say, the customer is always right but like you and Russell, I think if I saw them both together, I would prefer the one off to the side as well. You could always offer both ways and see what the "majority" seems to prefer. You might find its split, or one is better then the other. Thanks for sharing.
  4. Nice work Kevin and sure to be well received. thanks for showing.
  5. Beautiful work and they will be well loved when received as gifts. Enjoy that "tree" and its "gifts"
  6. Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Wouldn't have been able to attempt or to have them look quite so good without CharleyL's detailed "how to" with photos I am sure. Then, even when I first went to cut the first snowman, I was having a little issue and then remembered that several of you had noted to NOT use reverse tooth blades and remembered I had one in (that's my primary blade of choice for cutting most things.) Not sure why I failed to remember that tiny tidbit since I had had to order new skip tooth blades to use for trying to cut - and they were laying just off to my side at the saw! Once I remembered that and switched out it went a lot better. Interesting the difference, if someone can explain the "why" of the difference I would appreciate knowing it. I did enjoy cutting these out but I am not near as fast as some of you noted you are with them but now that I have "learned" the basics, I am willing to try some more when I see them. I won't be so intimidated by them anymore. While they weren't as hard as I thought, having the right type of blade as I noted made it much easier once I changed that out. All in all they were fun to cut and see the final product fall out of the piece. I plan to make these into Christmas ornaments I think and give as gifts - probably to my children, who as college kids, won't yet fully appreciate them though (but at least for a while they will stay and hang on my tree. ) Thanks again for all who helped with the written directions, tips, patterns, and more!
  7. Beautiful work Marge and great combination of techniques to create a gift that will be treasured. Thanks for sharing.
  8. Aw, I see she is a procrastinator like me! Excellent work thanks to a find instructor. I hope she enjoyed it and wants to do more. Thanks for sharing.
  9. I believe you are as busy as Santa's Elves Kevin. Nice work. Thanks for sharing.
  10. Nice work Monti and I am sure will be well loved and appreciated by your friend. It was very kind of you to commemorate their relationship in a beautiful work of art you have handcrafted. thanks for showing.
  11. More outstanding work. I really like those ornaments, particularly with the addition of the items like the reindeer, tree and star. In my opinion, they add another step up in the dimension and creativity of them. Thanks for showing. Like you, I highly value this forum and the people who share and give information so freely to all of us to learn from.
  12. Thanks again to @CharleyL for his detailed information and instructions with photos in this thread and to @Bill WIlson and @dgman and others who answered questions and gave helpful information on blades to use and more - I finally got a chance (or took the time to just do it) to do a few compound cuts today. No Reindeer yet, but I'll get to them one day! I have shared what I cut in the Bragging sub-fourm here: http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/27019-first-try-compound-cutting/ - Not too bad for a beginner I don't think and its thanks in large part to all of the information, tips, and such that you guys shared in this thread. I appreciate all of your kindnesses in helping out people like me here on the forum. Thanks.
  13. Ok, I finally got a chance today to sit down and give some compound cuts a try. I learned a lot from all of you who shared "how to information" in this thread (especially @CharleyL's detailed instructions and photos he provided in that threaded.): http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/24171-compound-cutting-wood/ Thanks Charley for all that great info. Thanks also to @Bill WIlson, @dgman and everyone else who provided information and help in that thread as well. I used Poplar wood. I created a cutting jig from Steve Good's pattern and instructions found here: http://www.stevedgood.com/3djig.pdf I cut the bird house pattern from Steve's blog found here: http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2017/12/compound-cut-bird-house-and-stand.html (I still need to cut out the birds for them) and the "Love You" from Steve's site here: http://www.stevedgood.com/3dloveyou.pdf The snowman pattern was created by @smitty0312 it says back in 2012. I thought I got it off the village here but now that I am looking for it to link to I am having trouble finding it! - If anybody can point us to it please do. Thanks Smitty for sharing it. (The snowman was my first "official" 3D compound cut.) Not perfect for sure, especially the words, but not too bad for a newbie. I will try more again but probably not until after the holidays. Too many other things I want/need to do. Thanks for looking and thanks again for all who shared information/help on cutting compound cuts. I appreciate all of you here who share so freely with beginners like myself.
  14. emphasis added Lee, I have been on this forum for about a year and a half or so. I have never seen anything on here discussing Scrollers Choice Magazine being closed or really any discussion of it. I get on here every day, several times a day and pretty much read every post that is made most days in all the subforums (yes, I'm addicted. ) Now, that's not to say I don't occasionally miss something, but I usually catch them within a few days and I don't recall ever seeing anything negative about Scrollers Choice Magazine in general or any discussion about it being closed. So I am curious if you can point to "some of the posts I've seen on here" that seemed to be a concern to you. There were some discussions a while back about one of the older print magazines no longer being published but don't recall any discussions about Scrollers Choice. Please show me what I have missed. I am familiar with your product and previously ordered a copy or two in the past. (I removed the link to the site Lee had posted from the quote of Lee's post because like several others, it didn't work for me. That is the only reason it is not in the quote. ) EDITED To ADD: Ok, out of curiosity I did a search of the full forum for old threads that mentioned "Scrollers Choice" as I was curious and found only one OLD thread from April, 2016 - June, 2016. (one have been in my early days on the forum so might not have seen it or remembered it.) That thread someone asked about the magazine, some gave links to it and the Facebook page for it then, and some other discussion which can be found here: Jim and others, you can get the magazine as a download PDF or you can get a hard printed copy of the magazine - you choose which way you want to obtain it. I can't remember, but I think I got the PDF versions of the one(s) I purchased. I liked what I got as I recall. For those interested here is a link to their back issues page that shows the different issues that they have published.http://scrollerschoicemag.wixsite.com/home/buy-back-issues - You can see on that page that some are now only available as PDFs but others still have the print issue available. Looks like print issues are $12.50. PDFs are $11.50. Lee, I appreciate having another option to obtain information/articles/patterns from as we all know, there is now limited options for magazines for scrollsawers. While I have not chosen to subscribe, or purchase more, it had more to do with "time" on my hands to do anything with more patterns.
  15. I don't see anything to critique. Looks good from this end to me. I have this one on the ever growing pile of things to try and cut. However, if I recall correctly, when I went to copy it from the magazine on my home copier it was just a little to big to copy it. Thanks for sharing your version.
  16. Congratulations on a great year. Now enjoy your holiday break before you start gearing up for next year's. Awesome work for sure. I look forward to hearing about next year's adventures.
  17. Glad to hear your good news all around Ike. Good to hear you had nice sales and your wife did fine while you were away. Sounds like a "dog" crowd out there today.
  18. Beautiful masterpieces you have crafted. thanks for sharing.
  19. Nice work from the Pattern from Bob to your turning it into an actual piece of artwork that will be well loved I have no doubt. thanks for sharing.
  20. Very nice work. I have no idea about starting bids - I agree with Paul, I would talk to them and see what they think and see what kind of bids they typically get for similar stuff in years past.
  21. Looks great and I am sure the customer was quite pleased with it. Thanks for sharing.
  22. Excellent work with recyclables. Bonus points earned from the wife for sure as well. Thanks for sharing.
  23. More excellent work Kevin. I am sure they will all be well received and loved. One can never have enough colors to choose from. Looks like you ae well prepared. Thanks for sharing.
  24. Another nice job Randy and looks like you made Lawson's day. Thanks for sharing.
  25. Nice work Monti. I didn't cut my finger but I did sand down some fingernails. I have that Gingerbread man on my list to try to cut. Like you, I saw doing it in a dark wood or with a dark stain. Thanks for showing yours.
