  1. Yes, that is the one I am referring too. Charley gave s lot of good information and tips as did several others. Now, just to find it to give the link. Found some of them - see this one here: https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/24171-compound-cutting-wood/ and also this one: https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/27019-first-try-compound-cutting/?tab=comments#comment-298486
  2. Jim, yes those patterns you are referencing are compound cuts. There are some older threads on here from a year or so ago about doing compound cutting. There was lots of good information and tips provided from several folks here in the Village that was quite good and very helpful. I will see if I can locate again and give link to it. One of the biggest tips I got from it was to not use a reverse tooth blade, but use a skip tooth blade.

Nice work Edward. Thanks for sharing.
  11. I was a paper Crafter with an electronic cutter before I was a Scroll sawer. I often bought the Scroll Saw magazines for patterns to Convert and cut in paper. I always told the paper crafters to look for Scroll Saw patterns for more ideas. Then when I became a Scroll Saw User, I started converting some of those paper cutting patterns into Scroll Saw patterns. I think I have shared some photos of some of those I did before. Will have to see.
  12. Great Find. I am like Kevin, we have an Ollie’s in the area, but may have been on it once, if that, so maybe I need to go and check it out.

  16. And I suspect that she would say that she is a lucky gal to have such a wonderful husband.
  17. I have not yet received my most recent copy so I cannot say anything specific about this issue in particular yet. I will say that this is a conversation that is had regularly. If you don't do Intarsia, even one article is maybe too much for you. if you don’t do fretwork and prefer Intarsia, only one or two Intarsia patterns in an issue may not be enough. Some complain there is too many “easy” patterns having been scrolling for years. Newbies, think patterns are too difficult, and want more easy patterns, I can only imagine how difficult it is to try to make everybody somewhat happy most of the time when trying to put out a magazine for such a wide variety of areas in a hobby that covers so many types of work. I am just happy that we have a magazine and always find something in most issues that I am willing to try, Sometimes we need to go outside our comfort zone and try something new. When you consider how much a pattern can cost, I figure as long as I find one an issue, (and I usually find more than one), it has paid for its self. Do I always like everything in every issue, no but I don’t expect to. But I will say, thanks to the magazine, I have also tried things that I might not have otherwise.
  18. Interesting because I know our local Lowe’s carry it - it’s where I bought it before I subscribed and I am in there enough to see it is still carried there. At one time, they used to be by the registers - easy peasy - then for a period of time, they moved all magazines over in front of the return desk which meant they were not easily seen by casual shoppers who would see something on the cover and do an impulse buy, I did that several times before I was even using the Scroll Saw. Ours has finally moved them back around by the registers. You might check next time you are in Lowes, they may have them “hidden”.
  19. Scott, I am pretty sure that Harvey will get his own copy since he is one of the expletive “published,” it is my understanding from comments I have seen from those who do articles or do test cuts for issues, they get a copy or copies of the magazine before anyone else. i am still waiting on my copy in the mail. Looking forward to seeing this article and the two Intarsia designs I hear are in it. Maybe today. you can also check Lowe’s and Home Depot. They carry the magazine usually. i too hope Harvey’s health is doing better. Still about a week left to take advantage of your donation to Harvey right? Need to fine time to take a look.

  23. Nice work Pete, thanks for showing and good to see you. Guess you have been busy on the golf course lately I
  24. Beautiful piece, and reminder to remember to be thankful for what we have.
  25. Great beginnings. When I was learning, I too got and went through most of the lessons I’m that book. The Saw you got would be on the low end of a “beginner’s saw” which means you would expect it to have more vibration then higher end saws. However, I have seen people use it to make some Beautiful pieces so it can be done. As noted, it is best to figure out the issue with your painless blades so you can learn to use those as they really are the preferred blades to use for most Scroll work if it has inside cuts. for more free patterns to try and great and helpful information on scrolling in general, you might check out Steve Good’s blog if you have not already discovered it.
