  1. Hello and welcome to the Village from East Tennessee. Some beautiful projects you shared.
  2. Yes, I agree. Looks great. I believe everyone should “sign”their work. When I took a class in Intarsia from Judy Gale Roberts. She noted that we should always sign our work just like any other artist. I sign in a variety of ways depending upon the size of the project. I have used a pen, I have used my pyrography tool to “burn” my signature or initials. I have a branding iron that I also use. I have gotten some of the “signature coins” from Steve Good but have not used any of those yet. I also always put the year on them as well.
  3. Nice work Kevin. Good to see you able to share pics of your work. Thanks for showing.
  4. Nice work. At first, I thought you had scrolled the heart into the chip. I was impressed you did it without breaking it. With its burned edges, maybe somebody did it with a laser. thanks for showing.
  5. Excellent looking projects. Thanks for showing.
  6. Nice work. Thanks for sharing.
  7. I think it looks good and the couple will love it. Thanks for showing.
  8. Thank you John for taking the time to write out and share these tips for newbies, and those like me who may not be complete newbies, but always like to be”reminded” of such good tips.
  9. Looks great with the photo as the background. Thanks for showing.
  10. That looks very nice Steve. I like the contrasting wood colors you used. Thanks for showing.
  11. Glad to hear. I hope they sell well for you. Let us know.
  12. Congratulations. I’m sure the purchaser loved your work.
  13. Les, I can buy both 1/2” and 3/4” poplar and red oak at our local Lowe’s and a Home Depot here in East TN.
  14. Those are just too cute John. Thanks for showing.
  15. Glad healing for you Brenda. We need some updated pics on those puppies by the way.
  16. Nice addition Jim. I just turn my phone upside down so the charge cord is on the top.
  17. 14 years ago, we built a new house because I refused to give up my half of the garage. Now, I have invaded his “shop” and it’s not big enough. (It’s one full garage bay plus some. )
  18. Welcome to the Village from across the pond from the mountains of East Tennessee. Glad you joined us and look forward to your participation.
  19. Yes, it seems fair because it’s not just gluing them up, it’s cutting them out, sanding before or after, applying the finish and more. I have looked at these in various places, $10 is about half or less of what I see them selling for. Denny said he is selling them for $15 and they are selling. Sometimes you make more on some things then others which helps to balance out the books at the end. There are plenty of things sold for alot more then the “cost” to make them. I see nothing wrong with charging what the market will pay and I think most would think $10 was still a “deal.”
  20. Jim, thanks for sharing. I understand about the low income and low cost of living BUT since you are just starting to offer them, try the $10 each first and see how they sell. If they don’t right away, you can then drop your price. While I know you sell what little you do sell to pay for your hobby and the wood for the projects, $10 is still a steal of a deal and I would think no one question that price.
  21. It looks great Frank and your friends will no doubt love it. A great milestone they have reached for sure. Thanks for sharing.
  22. Thanks Ralph for letting me know.
  23. Ralph, great job by you and Jim. What was the final size you did it at?
  24. Thanks guys Kevin, John, and Denny for input. I have about 40-50 cut of different things. I have given a few of them away. Some from scrollersonline patterns, some I developed myself. I posted some of the ones I did previously from scrollersonline patterns but hadn’t shown the ones I developed as I was trying to decide about giving the patterns away or trying a shop. I will try to post photos of those later. Nothing extraordinary about them - just silhouettes of animals and couple other ideas I had. Still need to get them all photographed. John, I have been following those threads and discussions in the business sub-forum and appreciate all that everyone has shared there. Kevin, size wise, they vary a little but roughly the bases are no more than 5” x 3-4” and generally under 5”. I have some with square/rectangular bases and some with oval bases.
  25. Nice job and you have every reason to be proud of your daughter. Thank you for your service in the Air Force and thanks to your daughter for her service in the Navy. I need to find that on Steve’s site. My husband has a partner who’s son just graduated from high school in May and has joined the Navel Academy. Been there about 6 weeks or so I think. They finally get to see him this weekend I think. I appreciate everyone for their service and sacrifice for ours and the world’s protection.
