  1. scrollerpete, ........ I forgot to mention, nice looking work. What method did you use to cut it? Richard
  2. Thanks Ray, I was just curious what was in his kit and also I saw in the video the counter sink bit/bur and thought it would be good for regular scrolling? Do you know what size the bur is or were to just get the bur? Thanks Richard
  3. Ray can I ask what is all included in Ken Cowell tool kit? Thanks Richard
  4. I think all those kits are is the veneer and the pattern???
  5. Ray here is his web site https://silaskopf.com/ but I don't think the video is available any more, truthfully the Paul Schurch one I post above is a lot more informative and is basically a teaching tutorial from a start to finish presentation including how to work with veneers and glueing them down, but if your looking for a good teaching video on how to do the DB method I not sure what one would be the best? I am not sure but I think Mark Adams may have one out on the market. Mark always puts out good material.
  6. Ray he is useing the double bevel method as you can see the table tilted at about 2:23 on the video, it is hard to see but I have the full length video and it shows a lot more than the clip I posted. Silas does some really cool 3-D works that are totally different from most marquetry, If you google his name you can bring up some of his works.
  7. I would buy a larger saw used and get a better grade saw ,than a small cheap new one. As they just don't cut it... HA Ha
  8. Here is a video from Silas Kopf which shows the double bevel method. His works are top end work. I prefer the stacked or packet method as they are much easier to do as you can stack up to 16 layers of veneer in one cutting and cut every thing all at once and then just assemble it in the back ground which you just cut as well. Also octoolguy thanks for the complement....:) and it seems there are a lot of marquetry class and iinstructors out there in Cal , as one of them that I took was in San Diego.
  9. When doing marquetry with the double bevel method (tilted table) a lot of instructors want you to use the thicker veneer which is hard to get and costs more or you have to cut your own. With the stacked or packet method you use regular veneers which are easy to get and cost less with more options. If you really get into marquetry you will find there are lots of ways of doing it. Some easier than others and some faster than others. I have read lots of books and watched a lot of videos, and classes and now there are the lasers to cut it as well. Good luck with what ever method you try. Matt when you finish the videos and books you got from Paul Schurch let us know if you feel the same as your quick positive review of them and of course show us what you made.
  10. Dan , Paul's a good guy and great teacher get the video's its a cheap way to learn. .... and no I don't make a dime on referring them.
  11. I just took a picture of the finished interior for reference. As that first picture bugged me.......
  12. Thanks Ray
  13. Here is a box I did not two long ago that I cut out on a scroll saw with the packet cut method . I have since put a velvet liner in the box after these pictures. Also the inside of the box looks like it has one very light peice of wood but it does not look like that, its just the picture for some reason?
  14. Paul, I do marquetry and I have taken two different class, one at the American School of French Marquetry with Patrick Edwards and learned how to cut with a Chevalet ( In fact I made one of the Chevalets to cut with) and also, I took a class at Mark Adams School of Woodworking with Paul Schurch and we cut on a scroll saw but not the double bevel cut method but instead we did the packet cut method (much easier). The classes were great and I learned a lot. But if you want to learn without taking a class, I highly recommend Paul Schurch's two videos ( in fact they are part of taking his classes requirements ) and they have everything you need to know on how to do the marquetry packet cut method and has the same information in them that we learned at the class. I guarantee that you will be able to do marquetry if you get them … given your ability of being a good scroller. 15. Good service, good prices and gives good advice if needed :).
  16. I have one of the Carter blade stabilizers and they work great for small blades and would recommend it
  17. The Ice pick just happens to have been in my family for years as well, I would say at lest 50 years old, but it works great for pushing out the small pieces as some of the letters parts were pretty small. You can still buy them pretty much just like this one but just no patina. https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwi-yK-P_4PuAhUIjYYKHRyiDToYABAEGgJ2dQ&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESQOD2Zda9zmfJhqiSZmsNGDEoOLnA8USGnWrsCpb1ouDVRe5bMHwroA4QpeBcZdlkhHtbFU6ARdQhsYu6G8YpnNs&sig=AOD64_0Hxq6zsTljli71dtZ_Aa5_zvF_Hg&ctype=5&q=&ved=2ahUKEwjj-6iP_4PuAhWizVkKHb5LB8oQ9aACegQIBxBI&adurl=
  18. Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Just an FYI as stated I made the stands from my own design. But if you look closely the pieces to make the stands are just the cut offs from the signs. I made the signs from ½’ BB and the backer from ¼’’ BB, both were stack cut.
  19. The optional table is around $160.00 / $170.00 shipped. I do have a Pegas and like it as it works great but with the extra cost for the larger table ???
  20. Here is a Steve Good design that I made for X-mas that I modified. I left off the built-in hanging hoops on top and made stands for instead. Richard
  21. Seyco or a Pegas, The Seyco has a larger table.
  22. Here is a video of a new CNC scroll saw that this guy is making. He is utilizing a Pegas scroll saw for his CNC system. The video is kind of boring but it is interesting on what he is trying to accomplish. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fhackaday.com%2F2020%2F06%2F04%2Fcnc-scroll-saw-makes-promising-first-cuts%2F&psig=AOvVaw19q03ssEAInDe76jIvY9sT&ust=1609729461601000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=2ahUKEwjqzpvX4_7tAhXFLM0KHeB5BS0Qr4kDegUIARDcAg
  23. Scrappile, I like your box Idea with the tubs. Here’s a thought for someone to make … A box that holds tubs, that pops them up when you lift the lid. Something like you find in drill bits. You have seen those metal boxes that lift the bits up for view when you lift the lid and they go from higher to lower and bigger and smaller. That way you get the best of both worlds. Just an idea for those that have some time on their hands. Richard
  24. In review and talking to Denney about the Pagas blades they have a chart with the blades and what size bit to use for each as for a minimum size. Thanks Wayne and Larry as you were right on as well about checking with the manufactures. Here is Pagas blade chart if anyone wants to use for reference. http://site.b2bprofessionaltools.com/catalogs/PegasChart.pdf Richard
