  1. Sorry to hear of your troubles. I am glad I have several good sources for poplar. The price range is $2.00 to 4.50 a board foot. My woodworking club shop is the least expensive but they are running low. We haven’t had a sawmill day in over a year. The solar kiln is loaded with 1000 bdft of walnut right now. I help load the kiln looks like good stuff. Some boards were 12” wide. Should be out in October. Pictures of the woodworking club shop supply barn.
  2. My first year teaching in the late seventies I used Deft but it didn't take long to switch to shellac and poly. The students were hanging out in the finishing room too long.
  3. I have the dust deputy for the shopvac and a super dust deputy for my dust collector. I am happy with both. I also have the trash can lid separator for my planer hook to the dust collector because it fills up fast when planing.
  4. Awesome to get a new tool.
  5. Too bad I don't need a scroll saw or I would be interested since your only 80 miles to the north. I have to save my pennies for the upcoming Wood Expo at Johnson's Workbench next month.
  6. I have had my pegas clamps for a couple years and wouldn't ever go back.
  7. My neighbor gave me a 12000btu window air unit so I run it from 6:00am to 6:00pm. The heat pump on the pool runs at night and the window air during the day. The pool heat cost more than the window air to run.
  8. I have the Ridgid that most of time it's setup for belt sanding and I have an old craftsman spindle sander which has a more powerful motor. The Ridgid dust collection sucks but not the dust. The craftsman has excellent dust collection.
  9. I have a Delta 18" drill press I use for everything but scrollsaw work. I use a seyco drill for scrollsaw work. A dremmel drill press setup would work well too.
  10. My neighbor gave me a 12,000 btu window air last summer and I turn it on in the morning and turn it off when the sun goes down. There is no need to run it at night because the shop stays cool at night. I use a natural gas 50000 btu furnace in the winter. So I am comfortable year round.
  11. The price of hardwood has gone up but not like construction lumber. The people I buy hardwood from said they held off as long as they could hoping things would go down but they needed to restock. He said they had 27 truckloads come in one day because they supply cabinet shops so they couldn't wait.
  12. I have the supermax 16/32 drum sander and love it. I use it for end grained cutting boards and cheese cutters. I just got a 15" jet helical head planer and it does a great job. I can go from the planer and start sanding at 220. I sold my Delta 13" planer which done a great job but the extra width and noise reduction was worth the expense.
  13. I went to get some yellowheart last week and they were out. They had plenty of other exotic wood just no yellowheart. It was listed as $12.12 a bdft. I will keep checking and when they get some and buy a few bdft. I did get some purpleheart, bubinga, ambrosia maple, gummy cherry, walnut and sapele.
  14. As far as Baltic Birch plywood I noticed our supplier says call for prices now. I was going to make a trip to get some but I am hesitant to call for prices. As for saw dust I dump. It on low spots in my yard or take it to the club shop for farmers to pickup.
  15. Once you start making pens it becomes very addicting. Awesome looking pens! The stand looks amazing for displaying your pens. I need to do something like that to display my pens. I just lay them on the table to show them off.
  16. Great job on the bowl. I use hose clamps for gluing segments together. I have accumulated an assortment of sizes for different diameter. You will have to try an open segment bowl sometime.
  17. I am with Kevin making my own saves money. I have a great resaw bandsaw, planer and drum sander so no problems producing my own thin stock.
  18. Awesome job on the chessboard! Makes mine look very plain, no Cnc and not one in the near future, hearing aide first wife's request.
  19. Besides the wood expo I go to the local woodworking store has an artisan fair that gives demonstrations and craft fair no charge for booth space. I usually give a presentation on the router or cabinet making techniques. They also give presentations on using the scrollsaw and lathe turning technique.
  20. I attend the wood expo at Johnson’s Workbench that Kevin does. We probably passed each other never meeting. I go both days attend several presentations and check all the tool vendors and wood deals. I always spend too much money but it’s a good time. I never tell my wife what I spend and she doesn’t notice a new tool setting around.
  21. Sorry for your loss. Folly beach is a great place my niece use to live there. The Sand Dollar and The Lost Dog were great places to go for food and beverage.
  22. I buy lumber at the same place as Kevin. I got that kind of prices when I bought 1000bdft of quartersawn red oak and 350 bdft of poplar. I don't get the big discount anymore haven't spent a lot lately.
  23. Check steve Carmichael YouTube video I built it works great. The one I made was for the scrollsaw I gave my son when I got a new saw.
  24. Great looking saw! It's nice to get new toys to play with. Your shop looks like it's really taking shape.
