  1. I use watco oil stains and Arm-R-Seal for a finish. That is what I used on a farmhouse table I completed a couple of months ago.
  2. I use beeswax & mineral oil mix, beeswax & blo mix or a concoction of my own. I melt beeswax in a crockpot and pour mineral oil in it. Scoop it out and put it in a 1/2pt canning jar. The only thing that has ruined the glue is when someone put the cheese cutter or cutting board in the dishwasher. You might want to use paste wax after the thinned blo for extra protection. These options should give you several choices to use.
  3. I can't open it either. Here's what I do with scraps. Cheese cutter and matching cutting board.
  4. I have a carbide tip blade that did cost as much as 5 regular blades. So far it has lasted 3 years and still cuts great. I just resawed cherry, hackberry, walnut and hard maple all cuts were straight and smooth. One light pass on the planer is all that was needed. I hated spending the money but it has been worth every penny. I figure I am up the cost of 4 new regular blades already.
  5. Is that vet in your garage?
  6. Kevin one of these days we will have to meet at the wood expo at Johnson's Workbench.
  7. It's handcrafted you had to use your hands to program the laser or Cnc, put the wood on the table and clamp it down.
  8. I been going to make a raised garden for last five years. I use the excuse of it's in the planning stage. It worked on the kitchen cabinets for 3 1/2 years until she reminded me that I have acquired a bunch of tools now it's time to use them. I am hoping to get 1 more year before making raised gardens.
  9. I am trying my best to stay perfect.
  10. On my pegas clamps I sometimes have reset the set screw so the blade clamp will work. The set screw moves out over time, I just haven't got around to using some loctite so it doesn't unscrew itself.
  11. I have the pegas blade holder on my Delta it's a vast improvement over the standard blade holders. To me it's an obvious decision.
  12. I can't believe you had problems with such a soft wood.(lol)
  13. It is an issue with almost all Dewalt, Delta, Excalibur type saws. The potentiometer just doesn't work the way it's designed to. I don't if it's the circuit board or the speed control. Find a sweet spot and leave it there.
  14. Incredible workmanship! I put that issue of Woodsmith in my file cabinet. Now I will have to bring it back out and make the steam engine. The school I taught at the mascot is the Railroaders and the city was founded by the B&O. Just what Need another project. I hope mine turns out half as nice.
  15. Wow, what an awesome talent and incredible models. I bet he had no problem being on the stay at home order.
  16. You will not like Tennessee because your commute from home to anywhere won't be long enough to remind you of California. My daughter has lived in Fayetteville area for several years and it is a beautiful state. Good luck on your move!
  17. Job well done. I hope his business goes through the roof. Might not have a lot of competition that meets those standards.
  18. That's approximately $4.00 a bdft cheaper than my store price. So you saved about$25.50. Great find!
  19. Sounds like an awesome fix except for the potential cost. Good luck!
  20. I have an extra craftsman motor from that age if you lived in the area instead couple of thousand miles away it would be yours for pickup.
  21. I don't know about the riser. But unless your going to resaw often you more than likely not need the extra height. I have a dedicated bandsaw and rarely saw more than 6" for resawing. The only time I have used the full capacity was to cut logs in half for bowl blanks.
  22. I have a 1/2" carbide tip blade for resawing and it is fantastic. I purchased it from Highland Woodworking. I see getting at least 3or4 years use out of it. I am on year 3 and still going strong.
  23. I purchased the 4x24 Triton belt sander today. I need it for a farmhouse table my daughter wants made. I was all set to buy it from my local woodworking store but they have curbside delivery and wouldn't take cash. So I saved $8 and ordered it on Amazon. You try to buy local and pay a little extra and they didn't want my cash. So if I had to use a credit card might as save money because I will have it to use before they open backup.
  24. I have a Rikon 14" deluxe with a 1/2" blade the does a great job resawing. I resaw it then sand it with my drum sander or plane it. I can get the wood down to .075 or less with this method. The thinner wood I use for bands when making shaker oval boxes.
  25. If your set on a belt sander Triton has one that you can clamp upside down as an added feature. When Johnson's Workbench opens backup check them out. I need a new belt sander and that's the one I am going to buy. I just need to do a few blog entries on woodworking for the local woodworking store to get a $25 gift certificate for each one. Since the lockdown they have not been able to offer Saturday morning demonstrations. The demonstrations is how I picked up $50 dollar gift certificates, so I guess I will have do the blogs.
