  1. I checked a bunch of different sites, forums, boards, etc....never thought to check Steve Good's site! I'm heading outside to kick myself in the ass a few times...
  2. Fluffy little ball o' trouble! Nicely cut!
  3. Two dragon patterns I found on Google. Cut in 3/8" BB ply (I think....they were sized right and came out of my scrap pile). Pieces are stained Dark Walnut with a clear satin lacquer, backer is neon green rattlecan with a clear glossy lacquer. These two will be the front and back panel of a dice tower (basically an enclosed box with an opening at the top and bottom, and angled baffles inside so that when you drop dice in they bounce around and roll randomly, no chance of someone trying to manipulate a roll). The right-hand dragon is shorter to leave an opening at the bottom of the tower for the dice to exit. I'll post a pic of the final product when I get it finished. I couldn't really find any good step-by-step plans, so this was mostly "take a look at a bunch of pictures and then give it a solid try".
  4. Nice! Not sure about the portholes on the submarine, tho...
  5. I need to find a new range...the one we've visited a couple of times since moving last summer combines LittleNoise and BiggerNoise (not BIGNoise, thankfully) on one indoor set of 10 lanes. LittleEars don't like the BiggerNoises in that confined space, even with earpro on. And as with you, the heat is a bit excessive for us to try out nearby outdoor ranges just yet. Archery is quieter, too, makes it easier to hear LittleEars' excited squeals when she manages to hit the target (regardless of ring).
  6. BigNoise is fun, too, but with archery you can (usually) retrieve and reuse the arrows.
  7. His estate may still have licensing and copyright, though. Tolkien is dead as well, but his descendants will not allow anyone to write any stories set in Tolkien's universe nor reference any characters. Their lawyers are fairly cutthroat, from what I've heard.
  8. I would get in touch with him (if you know the name, its easy to find a website or FB page, and shoot off an email or IM) and make sure you have his permission, first. If you sell stuff, y'all can hammer out those details too. But for art, I always try to find the artist first, unless its already knockoff of something else (Star Wars characters, LotR, etc).
  9. ::raises beverage:: Semper fi.
  10. Excellent!!
  11. "Diet" sodas do that to me. Its the aspartame in them that triggers my migraines. Coffee....I don't care for the taste, so I have to doctor mine up a bit. But I do enjoy the caffeine.
  12. 1x12 whiteboard, Pegas #3MG blade. Yep...this'll go to work with me.
  13. Yep, its connected in two spots to the letters above. This was an early pattern I did, I've since gone to all-caps, for the most part.
  14. A couple that I finished up last night. 1x12 whiteboard from Lowes, Pegas #3 and #5 (only because that was what was on my saw from my last project) modified geometry blades.
  15. Colorado is one of our favorite places for vacations. I also lived for a year up in NW Washington state after I got out of the Navy, and LOVE that area too.
  16. Just got back from a long 4th of July weekend road-trip....drove from Austin Tx to Pensacola Fl, turned out to be around 11 hours going, 13 returning (hit an interstate shutdown in Lake Charles, LA, that had I-10 completely closed and all traffic routed to the I-610 bypass....took us 30 minutes to go 3/4 mile before we could exit and take back roads...through questionable parts of town...you know you're in the wrong area when the church has bars on the windows). Oceans/beaches aren't really my thing, so I probably won't do any beach-themed pieces (gimme mountains, forests...places you can go from hotel to car without dropping two pounds of water weight from the humidity...I sweated like a politician in a church with bars on the windows). For me...summer is outdoor fun, and one of my fondest memories of summer camp as a kid was trying to get the hang of archery. Now that I've discovered there's such a thing as "cross-eye dominance", where I'm right-handed but my dominant/strong eye is the left one, I'm a faaaaar better shot than I was as a kid. Our daughter is enjoying archery as well (its quieter than the gun range, for one). So we're spending a lot more time at the archery range nowadays. And summertime means we're not stuck waiting for time on the line at the indoor range, there's an outdoor range nearby as well. I may even break out the homemade blowguns again.... 1x10 scrap of whiteboard, cut with a Pegas #5 blade. Had a bit of a goof with the bowstring, I cut the inside pieces, then did the outside and my tracking was a bit off towards the left side. Got a bit closer than I'd've liked to the inner wall, which resulted in a kink/slight crack. I'll shore it up with some wood glue.
  17. love it!
  18. Whatever else George R. R. Martin and "Game of Thrones" may be, there was a LOT of wisdom coming out of Tyrion Lannister: [Jon Snow] “Don’t call me Lord Snow.” The dwarf lifted an eyebrow. “Would you rather be called the Imp? Let them see that their words can cut you and you’ll never be free of the mockery. If they want to give you a name take it make it your own. Then they can’t hurt you with it anymore.”
  19. Nicely cut puzzles! You should try some brighter bulbs, as well as bulb placement, and possibly adding a light on top and/or behind. A softbox should almost eliminate shadows, forcing all eyes onto the product being displayed. What are you filtering the light through?
  20. ROFL!!!! I love it!!!!
  21. Sorry y'all, thought I'd added this to the library awhile back. Guess I didn't. I opened this and printed it as a poster, 200% size.
  22. Heh. If you look closely at it, you can tell there were a lot of spots where the spiral decided to go its own direction and I had to nurse it back on track, or I got momentarily distracted and ate into the lettering a bit (or didn't cut a corner quite as tightly as I should've). Its a rough-cut piece, and I decided not to file it down because, honestly, I hate filing/sanding. LOL That, and it kinda works, with rough edges.
  23. Awesome!
  24. Spent all day yesterday in refresher FirstAid/CPR courses, so I hit the garage for a quick pattern today. 1/2" Plywood (not sure the flavor), cut with a #2 spiral, a quick once-over with a blowtorch to remove the feathers off the back (and to scorch the front, I thought the patterns raised on the back looked cool), then stained with Minwax Cherry stain. Hung crooked on purpose (mostly to mess with my wife's OCD, plus its a bit 'off' which fits my personality).
  25. This. Is. AWESOME!!!
