  1. I will put myself a 'note' above my saw as I must confess I am guilty of being so engrossed that I feel like a guitar string sometimes.
  2. Many thanks Bill, it made total sense. Appreciate the time to reply. Brenda x
  3. I'm no spring chicken so sitting sounds good to me. Thank you for taking the time to answer. Brenda
  4. Wow, does the saw have to be 'tilted' to be able to 'sit' at it and if so at what angle ? Who knew that cutting bits of wood could be so complicated ??
  5. I now have a 'proper' saw to go alongside my little PinEnd saw. However, having looked around the internet and read as many articles as I can find, it seems to me that a lot of you 'experienced folk' actually sit at your machines. Now I've always stood at mine, but I'm that new to scrolling I didn't realise that it could be done sitting down Now, my good husband is going to make me a solid bench fitted both to the wall and to the floor for my new saw and he has asked me how 'high' I want the saw to sit. So my question is,,,,, do you sit or do you stand ??
  6. An amazing piece of work.
  7. Wow, how gorgeous, and so big. Wonderful work.
  8. I've done the pattern that you made for me and although I'm not happy with my work, the pattern is awesome. So would like to say "many, many thanks for your time and patience". This was done on my little Pin End saw and I've never done anything like this before, but I'm hoping to do it again on my 'new' saw once it's been set up for me.
  9. Amazing, a born talent I wish I had. Tell her it's wonderful and admired here in the UK.
  10. You answered my question perfectly, now I understand. Many thanks. xxx
  11. May I butt in on this conversation and ask a question ? I've seen all the different 'status' but have no idea of their meaning. Having seen this thread and the 'amusement' it has caused, I wondered if someone could explain how you get the differing levels ?
  12. Hi Don, Welcome from Doncaster, I'm new too but you'll find everyone so friendly and helpful. Enjoy !!
  13. Ooooh Ecky Thump, I've bought it.. I got it for £200. A bit of wheeling and dealing perhaps, but us oldies have to 'bargain' LOL. I do hope I like it otherwise my other half may not be so happy.
  14. I truly have no idea, although I have read on the internet ''have you looked at the Axminster AWFS18 which seems to be a clone Hegner copy '' whilst I have been 'surfing'. That's what made me ask here. Although it would appear to be a saw known only here in the UK.
  15. There is an Axminster Trade Series AWFS18 Scroll Saw for sale and it's £250. Is this worth looking at
  16. Hi Bob, nice to meet you. I'm married to a Dubliner. We live just off Green Lane, on the Great North Road. Got some posh neighbours but tend to keep my own council. Love it here, there's so much space. Enjoying my scrollsaw, although don't do anything as intricate as some, my fingers don't work 'that' well. LOL.
  17. I can always get 'pallet' wood, I hadn't realised that it would be any good for scrolling. I could get hubby to cut and plane it for me. Thanks for the tip, I'll try that and let you know how I get on. A question, if I may. What is 'pallet' wood made of ?
  18. Thank you all for your kind words. It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one that has been so startled by a blade breaking. I'll go back to the saw in a day or two perhaps. I only use Baltic Birch as that's all I have, fortunately lots of it in varying thicknesses. I'd love to work with wood one day, but that's for the future when I have more experience and am less likely to make firewood out of it.
  19. I've only been doing scrolling for a few weeks and only done 'little' things in plywood, but was feeling rather pleased with myself as I seemed to be getting the hang of it. However, my saw and my wood both taught me a lesson today. 1) Don't try cutting patterns that have 'pointy' bits with plywood as the layers come apart. 2) Only do scrollwork when you are calm + collected. I was a little tense today and had gone to the workshop to take time out, but I broke my first blade today and it made me jump out of my skin. It may be a day or two before I pluck up the courage to go near the machine again.
  20. Thank you all so much for your kind comments. I'm trying all sorts at present. The Reindeer was done on a bandsaw because I'm a little afraid of the Scrollsaw LOL, I have a cheap and cheerful Scrollsaw that only takes Pin End blades so I'm limited to what kind of pattern I can follow. I tried this today, but I think this is the 'smallest' I can go, for two reasons, The Pin Ends means I can't get 'small' holes and my arthritic fingers locked up just doing this, so any of the beautiful intricate pieces that some of you do would probably put me in a sling for a week.
  21. Amazing, I've just started playing with wood, but would hope one day to make something half as beautiful. I salute your talent xxx
  22. I forgot the Butterfly
  23. I'm very, very new to this hobby of 'making' stuff, so I've tried several different things. A scrollsaw Butterfly, A 3d Reindeer, burning wood and an ornament from the forum book. I guess I'll settle down and chose just one thing to do, but for now I'm enjoying the freedom of retirement and flitting from thing to thing.
  24. Thank you all for your warm welcome. 'loftyhermes' - I'm in Doncaster, J37 on the A1, so we are practically neighbours LOL. Kevin, I'd show what I've done but don't know where to 'put' it, 'bragging rights' is all I can find and I'm not sure I've ever done anything worth 'bragging' about I could take photo's of my husbands workshop and my little corner of it, but again I'm not sure where to post them. So many questions, so little knowledge ... I must be the dimmest newbie on the block, I know I'm a little out of my depth. I'm used to being the 'go to person' for a lot of people, so to be the one that is asking so many 'daft' questions' is a little unnerving
  25. Thank you for letting me join your community. I've never joined one before, but this one looks very friendly. My hubby and I have recently retired so I've decided to have a go at scrolling. I've done a few little things and have found it most enjoyable. I will never reach the dizzying heights of 'expert' but I'm enjoying the learning curve. My hubby has an enormous workshop and I've taken over a corner of it for my stuff. I'm looking forward to reading and learning from the vast experience on this forum With Kind Regards Brenda
