  1. I know that's what I should do '' stay calm and slam it in the scrap bin' but I'm a bit of a 'drama' Queen, so when it goes wrong, everyone knows about it, in fact you'd think the world was ending LOL, thankfully my family know me well and just 'wait' it out and then offer me a coffee. !!!
  2. Oh ,Bill WIlson I hadn't taken any offence at all from your reply, I do take on board the fact that if my head isn't 100% on what's in front of me I should walk away. Quite often I'm scrolling, cooking, shopping, washing and gardening all at the same time. However, that day I was quite confident about my scrolling, so confident I didn't realise I went the wrong way My original question was about 'entry holes' because having gone wrong I was left with a piece of useless wood because I'd put lots and lots of entry holes into it, and wondered how other people approach a 'big' pattern. Do they just put a few entry holes and if it goes well, put some more or do they put ALL the entry holes in and hope that everything goes perfectly. ? I may start the next 'big' pattern with just a few and see how it goes LOL. xx
  3. Wow, I could never make anything like that. Love it. xx
  4. I think it looks great, , would never have known you'd had a problem and certainly can't see where you 'fixed' it. Good Job xx
  5. Oh how I wish I had enough experience to expect the 'errors' to be rare, however, I should concentrate on what I'm doing in the moment instead thinking of what to cook for dinner, shopping, getting the ironing done, all running round in front of my blade while I'm cutting something.
  6. Me too, sometimes my hands work quicker than my brain can keep up with and it usually ends badly.
  7. Aww, thank you, I was so sure that I would be the only one that made such a silly mistake. Made a note to myself, '' if cutting anything CONCENTRATE !!!!!
  8. Today I had the day to myself as hubby had to go and see his consultant. So, I thought ''I'll have a go at something outside my comfort zone and see how it goes. Well I chose a portrait as I've never done one before and wanted to try my new blades. All went well initially, I got my pattern the way I wanted it, I cut my wood to size, I stuck my pattern onto the wood and then meticulously put 'entry holes' in all the places I thought I'd need them and boy there were quite a lot, but I was careful and did them all perfectly Then it all went to hell in a handbasket. I was cutting away, feeling quite pleased with myself,,, then I made a mistake in my cutting. Not that it concerned me too much BUT.. I realised that if I hadn't put all those entry holes into the wood, I could have used it for something else, but unfortunately I'm just left with a big square colander. that is neither use nor ornament. So my question is... When you all do something quite 'intricate' do you put all your entry holes in at the beginning or do you put them in as you go along? Or do you just not make the 'newbie' mistakes I made ? Brenda xx
  9. Lovely work, , Welcome to the Village from the other side of the ocean, Enjoy. xx
  10. Many thanks to ''Trackman'' - I tried the way you suggested and although not perfect Doneena is pleased with it and will take it the way it is. At least it's an improvement without the gaping hole
  11. Oh, I wish !! Unfortunately Doneena really wants a wooden piece. She's seen the one I did for my daughter and was adamant she wanted the same. Otherwise it would have been patched and covered in Dulux
  12. Lovely work, I've also got a Border Collie so I know your Granddaughter will treasure that for life. xxx Beautiful xx
  13. I think they look adorable, well done. Your work with the paint and marker is fabulous. Love it xxx
  14. Oh I did, but could only find the top layer, the rest fell into my sawdust bin I think as I was stood over it at the time. I used a backer tape, my usual one, I've never put a pattern directly onto my wood LOL I didn't know you could I've done the 'patch' and it's sat on my work top with a tiny clamp. Hopefully that will work. Wish me luck, as I'm not the 'quickest' of scrollers and it will take me at least 3 days to do another one.
  15. A big welcome from the UK. The village is a great place to be
  16. Oh, I wish !! Unfortunately Doneena really wants a wooden piece. She's seen the one I did for my daughter and was adamant she wanted the same. Otherwise it would have been patched and covered in Dulux
  17. Oh what a good idea. I've just cut a piece to shape and spent half an hour trying to separate the top piece of ply, tidied it up and glued it in, but your idea has far more sense. I'll try it and let you know. Many Thanks
  18. No, I don't have the piece unfortunately and sanding I don't think is an option as it's plywood. I'll try the sawdust and glue option. I've nothing to lose. I was just so disheartened after being so, so careful with my cutting all week only to have it destroyed at the last hurdle.
  19. I use a grey fill with red outline, I find it easier to see those pesky tiny blades. But there again my eyesight is no longer 20/20
  20. I've just finished cutting this, it took me about 4 / 5 days all told, as I have other commitments. I was so pleased as it looked just as I wanted. However, when I took the pattern off last night a piece of the wood came off with it. I've just seen Orangeman's post and will in future use a heat gun for safety. BUT,,,, is there a way to repair this flaw or should I burn it and start again <Sigh>.
  21. It's easy Kevin, just say ''Had company from my wee helper'' . Sorry just couldn't resist. xxxx
  22. You can, with a little ingenuity, do a lot on a pin end saw, I did my first WordArt pattern, among other things, on my pin end, Sorry, pushed the wrong button and don't know how to delete this answer as it's not what I wanted to do. But saying that, these were done on my little machine. Brenda x
  23. Gorgeous, beautiful work skilfully done. I love it. xx
  24. Oh my goodness, how beautiful is that ? Lots of love and time went into that, gorgeous xx
  25. Nice work. I too have a pin end machine from Aldi, I love it and wouldn't part with it for the world. I also have an Axminster Trade Series 18 which I use for more intricate work, but there's lots you can do on the pin end. xx
