  1. I had a Ford Maverick. I bought it brand new in 1970. Piece of junk. That model didn't last long. Kind of like the Pinto.
  2. Finally got around to finishing the Judy Gale Roberts "Smell The Flowers" Intarsia. Padauk, Aspen, Basswood, Yellowheart and a small piece of Walnut and some white pickling gel for the hat, belt and shoes..
  3. I'm happy that you're happy. I do find most scroller's a happy bunch most of the time that is until there is an equipment breakdown or a splinter under your fingernail. &#@!% Other than that we're fine. Seriously, good find. Can't wait to see what your making. Happy scrollin' Ben
  4. Home Depot sells poplar plywood. I have had good luck with their plywood. I just ordered a piece of 4' x 4' maple , good one side 1/4" plywood and am very satisfied. Took about a week to get it delivered. it was free shipping also.
  5. I saw some 5mm barrel hinges at Rockler and Woodcraft. Nor really sure if they will work on 1/4" lumber. I searched for 4mm barrel hinges, but couldn't find any.
  6. Tom Thanks for the tips. I haven't made that box yet. That is just a picture of one of the boxes I intend to make.
  7. I like that hinge. But was unable to get the actual dimension and like you said, it may not work for me. I'll do a little more research.
  8. Yep, I've snapped the head off those cheap tiny brass screws. Excellent tip. Thank you
  9. Here is the link. https://www.scrollsawartist.com/scroll-saw-patterns/boxes/page-2/?items_per_page=48 I haven't actually made that box yet. That is a picture of the box I'm going to make. I have daughters, granddaughters and great granddaughters that will love these types of boxes.
  10. Thanks for the links. I'll take a look and see what i can find for my keepsake boxes.
  11. I have one that looks just like that. Mine is a 1993 model. I still use it today and never had any issues with it. I will say I do not use it every day and sometimes I go months without using it. But it still is 27 years old and just like the little bunny, it just keeps going.
  12. I'm going to make some scroll saw keepsake boxes for Christmas presents this year. Looking for suggestions on the best type of hinges to use and where can I buy them?. I will make the boxes out of solid 1/4" red oak or maple. Maybe both. Below is one pattern I will use. There are others. Thanks
  13. I have used them for 20 years. pretty sure you won't be disappointed.
  14. If you have a hold down foot, try using it.
  15. Been there, done that. My best advice is to save up and buy quality router bits. That burning you are experiencing has plagued all of us at one time or another. I decided a long time ago to only buy the best. I did some research back then and bought a CMT round over bit. The results were amazing. I have not bought any bits in years. I have a couple of small flat diamond sharpeners that I use to touch up the bits every now and then. I also have some Freud and Whiteside bits. I would not buy any other bits. All 3 are excellent in my experience. And the advice already given, More passes. Best of luck with your project Ben
  16. I bought an Excalibur from Seyco a few years ago. I don't remember exactly what year. Can you tell by the serial or model number? Update I emailed Ray at Seyco and asked him when I bought my saw? It was Oct/2012. I should have just called him to begin with. I have one of the better ones. Still works just fine.
  17. I'll take a look. Always interested in things made in America Thanks Update. I just looked them up. They are only about a mile and half from me. That's the good news. Unfortunately, they only sell wholesale. This is what's on there local website. "Distributor & Wholesaler to Professional Woodworkers". You have to open a business account with them. I'm just a hobbyist
  18. "Actual many of their abrasives come from Germany." Better than coming from China
  19. I'm a Klingspor guy. Been using them for about 20 years or so. I just started using their soft circular pads with various grits for sanding and shaping my Intarsia. Very satisfied so far. They have many sanding accessories also. I do however find their web site hard to navigate. I believe Klingspor has a factory in Hickory, NC. Don't know what products are made there.
  20. I had 2 Milwaukee power tools and they are excellent. I'm just sad they are no longer made here. The 7 1/4 circular saw i have had for about 25 years. It is a beast and weighs about 15 pounds. It's getting to hard to handle for this 80 year old. I just gave my old 14.4 Milwaukee drill to my son-in-law. His foreign one died. I have a new American made DeWalt that works as good as my old Milwaukee. Nice to hear there are other companies still making hand tools in America. I'm 80 and have never heard of Cornwell tools. Apparently they are not sold retail. I believe Snap-On are made here too.
  21. Just for the heck of it I decided to look up what power tools are still made in America. To my amazement, quite a few. All of DeWalt power tools are made here. Some Craftsman also. Black and Decker and Makita, has a line of American Made power tools. Most hand tools except Klein, Crescent, some Stanley have been long gone, mostly to China. I was sorry to see all Milwaukee power tools are not made here. I'm sure there are others. I'll just have to search harder. You would think all American manufacturers would shout out and put an American flag and say "Made In America" boldly on their packaging.
  22. Me too, but it's very difficult. We just let greed take over and lost so many MFG to China, Mexico and others. It really is a shame.
  23. I don't have a newer Hawk to compare it to, However, I do have a newer Excalibur. When I bought the Excalibur about 7/8 years ago I didn't think RBI was still in business. Honestly, I prefer my old Hawk to the Excalibur. Probably because I have had it for 27 years and have never had to do one thing to it. I'm just used to it and it's like an old friend. It still powers through hardwood with my #5 or 7 PGT blades. I do about 75% Intarsia now and use a lot of different tropical hardwoods. When I go lower than the #5 blade I use the Excalibur for the smaller Intarsia pieces. Like eyes etc.
  24. I still use my 1993 RBI Hawk. Yep, the ones with the brass barrels for holding the lower saw blade. Haha. I still love it and it still works great. I also have an Excalibur. I actually prefer my Hawk for Intarsia. Anyway, good find at a great price. You will learn to love the Hawk and It's made in America too! Have fun, Ben
  25. Thanks for the replies. Yes, I should have been more clear. I do need a paper enlargement. Looks like I'll be visiting a UPS store. Pretty sure there is one not far away. I live in a large metro area. I knew I came to the right place for help. Thanks again Ben
