  1. Very nice piece. Love the cutting and the movie. Kevin Costner is one of my favorite actors. Hoping Yellowstone has a 5th season.
  2. Excellent work Barbara.
  3. Beautiful pieces, both Pete and Brenda.
  4. Welcome to the Village from SE North Carolina, Scrimperuk. I look forward to seeing some of your videos and work.
  5. Excellent work, Chuck. The segmentation gives the piece a lot of depth. Your coloring is great.
  6. Not a problem, Adrian. I was guessing that was what happened. Sorry you haven't gotten more responses but I agree with Marg. The people at Carbatec can let you know if a foot switch can be used and if so, if any switch will work or if you need something special because of the different voltage than what we have here in the US.
  7. By all means borrow the magnet idea. I will suggest using rare earth magnets that are rated at 20 lbs. or more. I initially used two small (maybe 5 lbs.) magnets and they wouldn't hold the Christmas topper in place. It would stay there as long as the piece wasn't bumped or moved. I purchased a dozen 40 lb magnets on Amazon for $15. As far as my niece, she has a horse tack shop and a lot of people come through. I figured if I gave the Welcome sign to her, she could tell her customers who were interested that I would make them to sell. She also suggested I make some western toppers. (Horse heads, riders, boots, cowboy hats, etc.) My only problem is I've been busy doing this sign and toppers and haven't gotten to a couple Jim Blume patterns I've been wanting to do. Just not enough time.
  8. Great job, Kevin. Putting the design on a sprocket was a fantastic idea. I'm sure your client will be pleased.
  9. Very neatly done, Jim. Love the choice of wood.
  10. Welcome to the Village form SE North Carolina. Don't forget to post pictures of your projects.
  11. Hi Adrian and welcome to the Village from SE North Carolina. Most any saw can be used with a foot switch. The foot switch is plugged into the electrical outlet and then the saw is plugged into the foot switch. When you press and release the foot switch, you are simply cutting the electricity on and off to the saw. You didn't mention where you are from but if you are in the states, the Harbor Freight foot switch is recommended by many because of the low cost. I personally use a WEN. The cost wasn't but a few dollars more and it came with a 2-year warranty. I'm not familiar with the Carbatec but I'm sure other members here will let you know if I'm wrong about this saw's ability to be used with a foot switch. There is a lot of experience here at the Village and they are more than willing to give advice and guidance. Please share photos of your work.
  12. Here is the St. Patty and July 4th topper. Again these are modified patterns from Steve Good. They are 1/4 pine ply either painted or stained. Both are sprayed with clear gloss. the Easter, Veterans/Memorial Day and Halloween are still in the works.
  13. Jim, I create the guide marks in Inkscape. Travis has a nice video on how to do this. I always print from Inkscape after changing the fill and stroke (cut areas and cut lines) of the pattern. Again, Travis has a video on how to do this. As far as using spiral blades, I had absolutely no experience with spirals until I cut the "Best Friends" girl and horse. With Jim Blume patterns, I would say it is a MUST to use spirals. Otherwise you would rub a hole in your table spinning the piece with all the cuts. If you haven't tried spirals, give them a try. I use Pegas spirals and usually 2/0 size. They are much easier to use than I anticipated.
  14. It's the stage coach pattern. I've done everything to the printer that I know to do. It prints out the Americana series fine on the 11 X 17 paper but when I print the stage coach from Inkscape, it only prints an area of 8 1/2 X 11 on the 11 X 17 paper. I have the document settings correct in Inkscape. I was able to print it out and tape it together in six sheets so I have the pattern ready for wood.
  15. For some reason I can't get my printer to print the stage coach pattern to its full size. It's an 11 X 17 printer but even after doing all the necessary settings it only prints the area of an 8 1/2 X 11. It doesn't matter, I've already joined them together and have the pattern ready to apply to a nice piece of wood.
  16. Thanks Marg. The cutting was easy. The wife did the hard part by painting. I finished two more today. St. Patty's day and July 4th. Haven't taken pictures yet. Didn't finish them until about 11 tonight.
  17. Beautiful piece.
  18. Congrats on the new setup. I've been thinking of doing something similar. I have a 1600 sq/ft shop but it's not climate controlled. Thinking of either building a room or purchasing a shed to go inside where I can put my saw and a few basic tools... as well as heat and air.
  19. Definitely scroll saw artistry! Fantastic piece, Frank.
  20. Beautiful project on a beautiful piece of wood. I'm with you, wood grain adds character.
  21. I know the feeling, Jim. I took Wednesday and Thursday off because I had to take the time off or lose the hours. We were scheduled off today (Friday). My plan was to spend most of my time on the saw but things don't always go as planned. I did complete a couple projects and I've still got tomorrow to look forward to.
  22. Thanks all. I finished the New Year's topper today. Another Steve Good pattern cut from 1/4 pine ply painted with craft acrylic. I must say the wife did the painting.
  23. I took a short break from the normal picture type projects and completed this at the request of my niece. This is a Steve Good pattern. I was wanting cedar planks but the only thing Lowe's had at the time was pine. They were very rough cut so I sanded them to knock off the rough edges and saturated them with Thompson water seal. The letters are cut with Pegas #3 MGT from 3/4 pine ply since they were going to be painted. The bell topper is cut from 3/4 pine and painted also. I also cut the bell topper with the #3 Pegas MGT. The Valentines topper is a Steve Good pattern I modified. It is cut from 1/4 pine ply using Pegas #1 MGT. To switch out the toppers, I placed a rare earth magnet in the top of the picket and attached a 1 X 1 metal plate on the back of each topper. I also have a gnome for New Years but it is drying after gluing. I have patterns for most other American holidays that should also work as toppers. Hope you like!
  24. Nice job Eric... That one sure had me "puzzled."
  25. Great job, Barry. Very festive!
