  6. Been looking to "upgrade" my shop with a used saw. Bumped into an original Somerville Excalibur. Any thoughts / opinions on this saw? Looks like a tilting table, not a tilting arm. Any help is appreciated homebru aka nathan in kalamazoo
  7. I wish I could think like you do. Great idea and great execution!
  8. Okay, I'll bite. I'm generally just looking for things to cut. I'm currently troubleshooting a clock before I build another. In the meantime, a physician that I work with was retiring. He's a chess FREAK. The nurse that we work with had her husband build a bookcase for his chess books. I spoke briefly w/ the husband and said I'd cut chess pieces to top the bookcase. Needless to say he'd already cut a crown for the top and given it to this physician. So, I pressed on with my idea to cut a couple of chess pieces and make bookends. What is pictured is the queen that "did not make the cut". it had a couple of imperfections that I would not allow someone to be subject to so I cut another. This was compound cut from 2.25" walnut. The wine glass was included for scale. Hope you like it homebru aka nathan in Kalamazoo

Since you brought it up, Ray, please do tell us newbies about the "Fasco motor". Is that a Jeopardy clue for "What scroll saw motor was a total fiasco?" homebru aka nathan in kalamazoo
  10. Hello all, Nathan from Kalamazoo, here. aka homebru. Been making beer at home for way longer than scrolling. A couple of years ago I expressed an interest in wooden gear clocks to my wife. Two kits a Wen Scroll saw and a scratch clock later and here I am. I've done a piece of fretwork and a number of other small things. Most recently made a couple of bookends for a physician that I worked with who retired. Compound cuts in 2.25" thick walnut to make 6-inch chess pieces are not kind to cheap saws. My FIL gave me an old Dremel scroll saw that suffered the ravages of those compound cuts and it is no longer in service. I'm currently trolling the classifieds on various forums. I've got a couple leads that I'm working and I'm confident that I'll have a more robust saw in the workshop in the reasonably near future. Oh yeah, as my second project (first project was cutting the frame parts for a clock kit) I decided to cut Daniel Brown's (Laughing Mantis Studios) Apis coronavirus "intarsia". I think it's Rolf that says "I don't know that I cannot, therefore I can". That clearly defines me when I took on this Apis coronavirus project. Gave it to my in-laws as a gift since my FIL is a beekeeper. The pic is pilfered from Daniel's site. homebru aka nathan in kalamazoo
