  1. I'm sure the lens is sub par, it's harbour freight! But saying that my eyesight is not what it used to be and I wear glasses. I don't think it's the lens because if I just look with one eye (either one) it's fine. My light is attached to the saw but there is little or no vibration and the light is steady with no movement.
  2. I live in the sticks, but luckily I've got a 600mps connection, Netflix, prime, paramount + and peacock, the last 2 mainly for football ( I'm English lol moved here 20yrs ago but you can't take the football out of a Brit ) any thing else I need to watch = VPN sharkshack if you want a recommendation and a tiny computer running Kodi Stremio etc. Agree on you taste in TV.
  3. I'll try but I'm no expert by far, I know just enough to be dangerous.
  4. Thanks as I said earlier I've had a bandsaw for years and the technique is pretty similar so.....
  5. Thanks just 3/4 pine pretty soft, I didn't realize thicker was harder to cut, probably helped me as I have a tendency to rush and I had to feed it slower.
  6. Flying Dutchman #3 reverse Magnifier messes with my vision too !
  7. I have a harbour freight magnifier and light, magnifier makes my eyes go funny so I just use the light lol. Thanks for the kind words but I'm gonna have to work on some of those curves they are rough I'm pretty familiar with SVGs as I have to make my older kids custom tee shirts and vinyl stickers for their vehicles. The stuff they want usally is custom so I have to design them too.
  8. Just got rid of our TV package, put up a antenna for the local TV and subscribe to a few streaming services.
  9. Thanks Denny ... will do!
  10. Well I put my parts on my saw this morning and decided to try it out. I wanted to try something simple as this was my first time using a scroll saw. Knocked up this pattern in inkspace with a font I liked taped it up and went at it! Next time I'll make the outline in grey and thinner as the blade was hard to see in the black. I mostly kept to the line (but they are only a suggestion right) but the s has a few flatspots on it ( I'm presuming I'm turning without feeding?) Kind of embarrassing after seeing what you guys turn out but realize we all have to start somewhere. Thanks for all the positive input on my posts so far ( I know the new guy can be anoying ) and any constructive criticism is appreciated if it's going to improve my work, it needs it Thanks for looking !
  11. I had to buy a new printer about 8 months ago, I picked up a canon MF641C wireless printer/scanner/copier which is a lazer for about $299. My wife does a lot of printing at home and it hasn't missed a beat.
  12. I've done my homework..lots of websites and you tube videos Amazon was my friend and supplied me with 5 dozen reverse tooth assorted sizes, same for spiral and skiptooth, I went for flying Dutchman... Oh I got a few modified geometry too. I'll try them out see what size and style suit me best .... Believe me my questions will be randomly stupid for example..... I've seen lots of people cutting ply as opposed to solid wood, why ?
  13. I'm 60 this year, as long as I can remember I've always butchered wood in some form, from rough carpentery to fine furniture. A few years ago I started having pain in my ankle and eventually was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, eventually I lost the leg below the knee. I've recovered ( Cancer free now) and have a bionic leg walking is fine but standing still is still a little tiring and painful after a while. Thus my wood butchering has suffered, I've wanted to give scrolling a try for a few years now and now seems the perfect time to start. If you've read my introduction post you will already know that I picked up a half decent saw (which needed a few parts that I received today) And a comfy chair , most important I'm looking forward to my new adventure and sharing it with you fine people, more like bugging you with stupid questions any tips and tricks for a new guy appreciated
  14. Well my parts have got here for the Hawk and I may install them after supper and make a pattern and make my first scrollsaw cuts ever lol. I'm not a novice woodworker I use the hell out of my bandsaw so I'm hoping that will help .... Just never used a scrollsaw.... I'll bring wood butchery to a new low
  15. I haven't even made my first cut yet... But this looks absolutely amazing !
  16. Costco is dangerous, was there Saturday with the wife for some odds and ends walked out with $600 worth of food, an inflatable hot tub and a biolite fire pit .... Apparently she who must be obeyed stated she was just keeping up with my tool purchases .... Go figure
  17. Thanks, I had already found his site and purchased his patternsdownload for a mere $20, I'm signed up for emails too.
  18. Thanks I'm here to learn everything I can
  19. Hi, thanks for the add! I have been woodworking for 30 years and for the past few years have fancied giving scrolling a try but have never found the time. Well times change and by chance I stumbled upon a old scrollsaw but in surprisingly good condition. It's a RBI 226vs ( square bottom blade holder and a DC motor manufactured by Dayton, which from what I've read is a Ultra made between 1994-1996) it was covered in a layer of dust. I parted with $100 and took it home and gave it a thorough clean and a coat of wax, oiled the rear cam and tested it out. It runs quietly with no vibration. I've ordered the blower lockline kit for it and some new knobs as the upper blade holder knob is cracked. Got about $150 in it now and some time, I feel like this could be a good start to a new hobby! Now I just have to practice lol
