  1. Thanks for the info Wichman! I'm using FD ultra reverse at the moment, being as I'm new at this I'll be trying others. I should have used a smaller blade on the flag I realize that now, I was cutting 1/2 oak with a #5 just before and just continued using it to do the flag.
  2. I've got a 23g micro pin nailer, works great for holding small bits in place while the glue dries.
  3. Thanks Ray, Yep I trolled youtube and found his video and a few others, it will click eventually, and yes I am hard on myself but that's just the way I'm made. I'm impatient and like to get stuff knocked out, I've got to remind myself to slow down and to be patient , the weather will be changing pretty soon and I'll have plenty of time to spend down here, and I know I'll improve.
  4. Thanks, a million mistakes , but I'll get there eventually.
  5. Seems like everything is tough for me
  6. I haven't been able to get back on the saw since cutting my first project. I put off mowing my yard today and get some much needed practice in. Decided to try actually cutting a couple of patterns. The first one was posted on here( I'm sorry I forgot who posted it for credit) it's a gnome, and the second is a Steve Good pattern. Both are straight off the saw the gnome is a 1/2 scrap oak and the other is just a cheap 1/8" luan plywood scrap, I figured it's not worth using good wood yet. I still need to cut a couple of bits, then I will sand them and give them a coat of paint. I've still got a long long way to go. I'm still having a problem turning inside 90° corners consistently but I guess it's early days. The new light and magnifier worked well and I added the lockline upgrade for the blower, which is also great. Probably the most helpful addition was the foot pedal. Well I've took up enough of your time but I just have to say how much I appreciate your skills and craft after seeing your work and attempting to try and do something passable myself.
  7. Welcome to the village ! I've not been here long but you're right it's a great place with great people. Some really nice work there, I love the Owl, I'm only just starting out and have difficulty cutting a straight line Hope you enjoy it here and I hope to see more of your work!
  8. Big Hobbit/ LOTR fan, nice work!
  9. Back surgery sucks, wishing you a speedy recovery.
  10. Edward, I don't dislike the Harbour freight light just that it doesn't give me a crisp image. I can't really blame the light as I was double dosing some extremely noxious chemo drugs which has messed up my vision and hearing, the ottlight magnifying lens sharpens up the image a lot for me. I guess we're all different and there's no one answer that's suits everyone, and really that applies to everything in life. I'd certainly recommend the HF light to anyone with fairly good vision and as you say it's great value!
  11. Thanks Scrappile, I just assemble the ottlight butI haven't scrolled with it yet. The lens image is definitely better to my eyes and I also like the light, the light being floor standing is going to take some getting used too I hope it not a deal breaker.
  12. I'm pretty sure it's store wide as I looked it up on the HL website, on there it actually had them priced at $79.99 but also at $69.99. The one I got was there last one
  13. I haven't been happy with my harbour freight magnifier/ light but to be honest my eyesight is far from the best. My collage age daughter had to get a upper and lower GI today and my wife and I drove the hour and a half to be with her. She needed a new tire on her car so we took it in to get it replaced, it happened to be next to hobby lobby so we decided to look around while they replaced the tire. While looking around I saw they had a Ottlights on sale for 1/2 price $69.99, one of you had recommended it so I picked one up hoping the optics are better quality. The procedure went well and they found nothing which was good. I'll give the light a try tomorrow to see if it works for me.
  14. Love this! Need to find a pattern and give it a try.
  15. Really like this! great work!
  16. Thats awesome, I think if I tried that it may drive me insane!
  17. Love this great work
  18. Thanks Freddied I actually needed to buy some drills and needed to know a range of sizes.
  19. Thanks Bill just what I needed
  20. I've read that there's a min drill size chart for FD blades, I've looked but can't find it can anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks in advance.
  21. Got some time to myself this morning put a little paint and lacquer on it after sanding. It's a little janky but my wife has already snagged it for her desk at work lol
  22. Yes after Ray pointed out Rolf's thread I eventualy found it and it looks like it would work for me. I need to go into the attic where some of my tools were stored ( and forgotten) after loosing my leg, I'm certain there's a festool Planex and matching dust extractor up there. The dust extractor is designed to handle very fine dust ( it's attached to a drywall sander) and even bangs the filter every so often so the dust falls off it and keeps it from clogging. I think it would be the perfect scrollsaw vac lol attached to Rolf's pvc collection system ..... Thank for mentioning festool shop vacs lol.....
  23. Two advantages for me I can fold the tables up without having to disconnect everything My planers always connected in it own spot dust collection comes down from cieling so no hoses to trip over But we all have different needs .
  24. Late to the party, but I saw a YouTube video from a guy selling a aftermarket chip cover allowing the exit of chips through the top of the planer for the dewalt 735 you did have to cut a hole in the top cover but it did look great. I I have a 735 and considering doing it to mine. I'll see if I can find it and post it here. Here's the link
  25. Anyone hooked up any sort of dust collection to their hawk? I've got a regular workshop hanging fliter near the saw and wearing a respirator/mask but it's still messy. Maybe a tray under the table connected to a shop vac ?
