  1. Good stuff I've used Deft before on other projects
  2. Unlike most hobbys scroll saw videos just tend to be watch me cut this there's very little basic instructional content. I was surprisingly pleased when I posted about shelf liner and the subject of full sheet labels came up, being a newbie this was news to me, I realize it's not for everyone but it's nice to know. So to get back on topic how do you finish your natural wood products lacquer, oil, varnish ect, please add a short description of your method too.
  3. Duh I'm a idiot I've got nearly a 100 sheets down stairs which I bought to make stickers on the cricut..... Did I mention I've a diy tee shirt and sticker addiction too.....
  4. Got to agree with you there ! But this seems to be working for me !
  5. Thanks for all the info Kev. I haven't been at this long and I'm already 3/4 of the way down my second can of 3m 77 that's $10 a can plus blue tape and packing tape not to mention the good paper my wife uses for work I can't see it being more expensive !
  6. Going to have to look into full page shipping labels now ! ( As the rabbit hole opens, down he goes) got a link Kev?
  7. With just sicking it to the wood and glueing the pattern down seems to lubricate the blade Ray, but if you want to add another layer over the top you get plenty in a roll
  8. As a beginner I was unsure but after cutting a few things it seemed a no brainer, not only do I not need blue tape but also no packing tape either, that's a pretty big saving if you cut a lot. Thanks for the reply Erv!
  9. Finally got round to trying to cut this yesterday, not as tidy as yours but it can hang by my radio. Still have to sand and finish I may even paint it. Thanks for you help with the pattern and the inspiration!
  10. I saw a post about this the other day, I've been using it for about a month now and it works well and it's saving me money ! I was blowing through blue painters tape like you wouldn't believe and @ $7 a roll for the good stuff it's not cheap. I just cut a piece the size I need and stick it on and glue the pattern on. It seems to lube the blade just like clear packing tape too ... I used to blue tape then glue the pattern and clear tape over the top, now it's just add the liner and glue down. So far it's stayed put until I've tore it off and it hasn't peeled on me even when I've left it a week and come back to it, also there's no noticable residue left when you take it off. Bonus I'm still on my original roll.
  11. You're welcome Barb, it's obviously not silent but it's a big improvement for me at least. I've never used the app before but it did what I needed it to do. There are other vacs out there this quiet but at triple the price, as to how long it will last time will tell but DeWalt stuff tends to be pretty reliable.
  12. Freddie, As i said in the post i used a app which I had no way to calibrate so how accurate 73db is! it was used as a baseline for the increase or decrease in volume ie there's12bd difference between the two. My cheapo vac was one my wife picked up at Walmart, the brand is Hart.
  13. Well i would say do it! About $140 from Lowes and my ears thank me!
  14. Thanks Sycamore67, that sounds about right (excuse the pun )
  15. So I had a project to do this morning and I needed to clean up so I thought I'd unbox the vacuum and do a quick review. it's not going to be technical just what I observe. First up this is a large vac at 12g and 5.5 HP it's not small. There's some assembly required, to be exact 6 screws one each for 4 castors and two for the accessory holder. There a 4 accessories that fit nicely in the holder, a nice size crush proof hose and two extension wands, the collection hose has a ID of 2" I cleaned up my mess from this morning and had no problems sucking up anything I pointed it outat, from dust to larger heavier debris, no surprises really just what you would expect from a 5.5hp vac. I also had installed the provided bag in the vac, and while using it there was no visible dust from the exhaust port. Ok now to the sound level, FYI my hearing is pretty bad due to some heavy duty chemo drugs and I have trouble hearing higher frequency sounds any lower frequency sounds are unpleasant, hence wanting quiter equipment. I used an app called sound meter to measure the difference in volume between different noises, probably not that accurate of a db measurement but the difference in volume should be. First ambient noise in the room, Second my hawk running full speed with no load, just to give you an idea of noise level as some my be familiar Third my cheapo shop vac And finally the DeWalt Firstly I my be wrong but I'm thinking db measurement is liner, as 12db difference doesn't sound a lot, but my cheapo shop vac screams and the DeWalt is very quiet. I think the hawk is very quiet when running with no load and the DeWalt is a couple of db more To sum it all up, I'm perfectly happy with the purchase and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, the sound level is night and day when compared to the one it's replacing. I have all the fittings to add dust collection to the hawk but have yet to install it so I can't say how it performs there, but common sense tells me that I'm sure it won't have any problems being as 5.5hp is overkill in the first place. Thanks for looking and I hope this helps someone thinking of buying one.
  16. That's great !
  17. Make sure your reviewing the right vac, as far as I know it's only on the one model, the 12g one and it has this on the box If you look back in the thread you will see a YouTube video showing how quiet it is.
  18. Big Queen fan here too, I love a lot of the earlier albums Queen I and II for example. Not a big Bowie fan but I'll make an exception for Under pressure with Queen. Nice work with the cutting !
  19. I figure there's a chance the fish might survive the great flood without the ark lol
  20. So it been a busy week for me and mostly no scrolling. I went to my daughter's soccer match today and on the way back popped into Lowes they had this at a reasonable price $149 including tax so I picked it up. I won't get around to opening this up and trying it for a few days yet as I have so much to do but when I do I'll report back with my opinion !
  21. My first finished project two months into my scroll saw journey, this is being given away to my MIL who has a liking for Giraffe's, and for once I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. It's been a busy week, I framed it last Friday and has been in clamps since then, and today was the first chance I got to finish it. Cut on 1/4" BB ply with 1/8 ply backer painted black. The frame is 3/4 reclaimed hard Maple also painted black. The frame and cutting were finished with 3 coats of lacquer. Thanks for looking and even more for the help and advice that have got me this far.
  22. Love the splash of color! Extremely well cut, love it !
  23. There's a few websites for this, off the top of my head What the font and Font squirrel Sorry you'll have to Google them for the actual address as I'm just taking a quick break right now and I have to get back at it !
  24. I can add the lettering its not a problem, it's always easier with a pattern that's why I asked. Thank for sharing it I appreciate it !
  25. Very nice work ! Can you point me to the pattern for this please ?
